Just liked the vid, I would love to see more of these. Would you consider watching my short film? It’s called “Falcon vs Tie Fighter. The End.” I filmed it with my iPhone and edited it using Final Cut Pro.
I think you struck GOLD here. If you do this regularly, not only do film makers get a platform, but you can actually apply your experiences in real time. It's still baffles me how film makers ignore the importance of audio, b/c audio ultimately trumps video. People will put up with mid video quality if the audio is great - but not vice versa. Overall - I think - you told these film makers (and I found all displayed entries interesting) just what they needed to hear. I really hope this'll become a series. 🙂
Hey! I’m McKenzie Franklin and I was the lead actress in the third film you reviewed “Bloody birthday”! I’m glad you enjoyed it!! I’ve been apart of SAG-AFTRA since I was 10, so I would hope I could sell insanity lol Thanks again for taking the time to watch it!
I'm a critic, I know, but that first one is hopefully their very first attempt and first time seeing a video camera IRL. Bad audio, bad lighting, bad composition. Frankly I wouldn't admit that this was a result of your course. Was there even basic sound design? I can't. This would be a fun series if the entries were somewhat curated. Don't mind me, I have a head ache LOL.
summary: film 1: have GREAT audio and don't expect much from non-actors. film 2: even if you have good cinematography, good audio and video, develop your story to make it more interesting. film 3: have a minimal sound design to hide bad audio, shorten montages and your story if it gets to the point in less runtime, and add layers to your characters.
no one going to mention how the two main characters are a rip off of the gecko brothers in dusk til dawn? even the dialogue and mannerisms and creepy traits of Richie gecko and the way Seth gecko tries to control him are portrayed almost identically.
Hi Kent great video, please keep doing these! I just recently made my first short film for a college project and I am super proud of it. Even though it may have its errors, its good to get feedback to improve!
I've always wanted to have people send me their short films to watch, so kuddos to you for being in a position where you can make my dreams a reality. I certainly wouldn't film myself watching said films and posting my reacitons on RU-vid, so again, kuddos.
I may have sent one of my old shorts over, but I stopped receiving your newsletter maybe two months ago. I never got this notice about submitting shorts.
Please, we need more videos like these. Perhaps this type of exercise of watching "embryonic" student works is even more important than watching masterpieces. Like a cautionary tale...
My first year of film school is almost coming to an end I worked on a lot of interesting protects I’d love to send you a 3 minutes short that I directed
This was fun, do y'all want more of these? Lmk with a thumbs up! And subscribe to Friday Film Notes to get notified next time I call for submissions! standardstoryco.com
I'm in a photography community over on the internet and we have the same kind of thing. The only thing is we get tight brief that we would get from clients so that we can train on that as the aim of the community is to turn us into working photographers. I'm not on the newsletter but so i don't know if you just said make me a a short film and that's it. But you could do some thing like : make a short film of [duration], [style, genre, era] about [either free topic or something specifc]. That way you get same theme but ofc treated differently by different directors.
This was so helpful! I'm producing a short comedy film this summer, and I've been binge watching your entire channel, including all your short films and features. You have no idea how helpful you've been, and how many times you saved my short film!
Hi Kent, love your approach to videography. I am a BA Photography Student here in the UK, and feel that much of what you teach can be translated into photography too. Keep up the good work!
Make it to your advantage to Make a Short Film . Preparation is key. Make a Master List for pre Production! List to Check. It can be your Chance to Focus und be Quick ! Steal Shots on places without them knowing. Make it easy on yourself and rehearsal! Wireless mic Never use that as excuse for Bad Audio! Be your own Producer and have everything in one Place key instruction! You can collaborate After finish shooting. Pick up close up shots. No Crew shoot respect! Thanks for the content.
