Hello!! I am Rachel and I'm so glad you're here! I'm a marine biologist turned chemist and real estate investor. I'm passionate about minimal living, veganism, saving money and destroying the stigma of talking about money out loud! To all the millennials who are feeling held back by student loan debt, I SEE YOU!! Let's make a plan and get out of this debt together so we can move forward with our lives. I hope you find some value here and I look forward to getting to know you. =)
Finances and end-of-life issues (especially hospice and death) are two areas we don't talk nearly enough about and I think we would be stronger if we did. Thanks for sharing!
Can I ask a really personal question and feel free not to answer. I am the mother of an adult child. Clearly you have a very wealthy family with large coastal homes/lots of land in glorious Maine. Probably worth well over a million if no more. Could your parents take a home equity loan that you would pay off and then you wouldn’t have this terrible debt that was capitalized. I think I might consider doing that if my daughter was in the same place.
Hi Rachel! Every time I see a new video from you I click it so fast 😂 Cheering for you through all these crazy ups and downs! It’s insane that $500 rent is over 33% of your take home pay. Since your income fluctuates so much and your aunt’s flexible, could you offer to give her 25% of whatever you’re able to earn from your W-2 paycheck each month?
Great video. Your explanation of your student loans and what you are doing makes sense to me! It sounds like an extremely frustrating thing to deal with. I had student loans, nothing near what you have and they definitely affected my life in a not so pleasant way. Hang in there 😊
I am in the same place trying to find work after saving like you said im ok but yeah hate losing rather then saving.Ha Maine.been thinking abought it.❤
From Brunswick to Camden on Rte 1 is fabulous. All those small towns, and glimpses of the ocean and the marshes. Enjoy!! You are way too hard on yourself re: saving. Enjoy your life. and try to reduce your debt. Don't even think about saving yet. It will all come together for you, and when you have steady income you can think about saviing
I believe Little Boho Cottage channel's recent video about Maine made your video show up on my feed. I appreciate your honest struggle, I'm still working 40 full-time years, sad to admit but true, due to lots of miss-steps trying to carve out a new career path. So I subscribed and I love Maine and I look forward to your channel doing well.
One step at a time! Income is surplus to expenditure by any reasonable measure.Give yourself time and space to figure your next move out. I have every confidence in you and that the opportunity you desire is very close x
Your channel just came up on my feed, what an inspiring journey your documenting here - your an amazing communicator, thanks so much for doing this . I’m inspired to do better
It's not a scam, it's a business. Did you think it was free money the nice people were giving you because they loved you? You're expected to read the fine print, and ask what compound interest means if you don't know. And if you're going to use the "I was basically still a CHILD!!!" defense, maybe you weren't ready to drive or vote at that age, either, but I bet you did it.
I moved from Tampa to Santa Clara a few months ago and I’m thinking of purchasing a single family home there, but with real estate prices currently through the roof, is it still a good idea to buy a home or should I invest in stocks for now and just wait for a housing market correction?
well you could put a downpayment on a home and as well diversify as much as you can into Ai, energy and big pharm. stocks like Pfizer and JnJ, ASML, MLM and S&P 500 ETFs. I’d suggest you go with a managed portfolio, but even those don’t perform so well, so it’s best you reach out to a proper fiduciary to guide you, that’s what works for my spouse and I making a whooping $538k in Q4 last year
There are many advisors to choose from. But I work with 'Lois Jean Frueh' and we've been working together for years and she's fantastic. You could check her if she meets your requirements. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with
Hi Rachel, have you considered substitute teaching? That way you take assignments when you want to. You don't have to worry about working since the school systems keep you busy. Peace and Blessings 🌷
It must be such a relief to finally get out of the apartment. I’m delighted you’re back in Maine. It looks beautiful. Hope all goes well with getting the last of your stuff. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏💪👍🙏💐🐈🐈⬛
Just remember it's still a bit of money while you apply for another job. It's typically easier to get a new job while already employed. Adding in gig work will be helpful as well.
I think this year is like this. My money is also eaten up by my apartment renovation... Could barely save anything at all. That being said, although this job is not quite working out for you, you are in such a beautiful environment now. It feels that despite the hurdles you are closer to your goal.
Great video.❤I really work so hard to engage myself in someway of earning more income and stop depending on anyone. my family are happy once again and I can now afford anything for my family even with my Retirement. With a step of $50k and $17k weekly returns has been life changing, after so much struggles.
My outlook on money changed when I realized someone making $200K can retire broke & someone making $80K can retire a millionaire. With the current market movement.
Im super proud of you and for the job i think you should look at something different. My advice to everyone is this : if you want to grow big this year especially in your finances. Be willing to make investments. Saving is great but investing puts you on a pedestal where you wouldnt have to worry about savings as you do now. Thanks to larysa Caba, my portolio is doing really great and im proud of the decisions i made last year.
I feel one Of the greatest challenges that we first timers face in the ma rket is that we end up losing all we have, making it difficult to find ourselves back to our feet. My biggest advice is to always seek the services of a professional just like I did when I ventured into it for the first time. Big thanks to Larysa Caba. I now make huge profits by weekly through her services while still learning to stand on my own.
I think she trades for everyone I meet. I met her twice at a meeting in Germany and after her lectures from Ella I had to personally ask her to be my financial advisor. she is definitely good.
I have never seen a trader as open and transparent as Larysa Caba with her clients. The way she decides to make a profit for her clients. she allows you to express your fears and she still rests your fears and that is my respect. I don't normally comment on videos, but this word should be included. she is really cool.
I would love to hear an update on getting a second rental if interest rates start to come down. A second rental could equal Gig work income. Also, with lower rent, this might be the time to get a second rental. Keep in mind that it takes time to build a rental portfolio.
Glad to hear the move is going well. And remind me you told them you would take multiple day trips right? Or is it the single day trips that are the problem still? You have a great plan. Get your feelers out there and see if anything else comes up in the meantime gig work and day trips it is…enjoy your summer.
Yup, I did say multi-days are okay with me! That’s what I have lined up for tomorrow morning (🤞). It’s mostly the single day trips that are the problem. Thank you for the kind words, I hope you enjoy your summer as well!☀️
oohhh I love that trail. Thats the main thing I dislike from my current location, theres no forests like that close enough for a daily walk 😢... glad you are settled in!
Welcome home! That bridge by Reds is truly a nightmare. Just that stretch from Bath to Rockland in the summer and fall leaf peepin’ is a nightmare. Would be great if you could get boats out of Portland. Sucks they keep canceling on you. Your Aunt is an angel letting you stay with her. You’re blessed to have a supportive family.
Many of the fishermen that go out for one day at a time only fish 2 to 3 days per week (some more, some less). But in order to go fishing, they have to give 48-hr notice to fishery regulators. Since they don’t know what the weather (or any other factors) will be like that far in advance, they won’t know exactly what days they will end up fishing until the day before. But since they have to alert regulators so far in advance, they just claim that they’re going to fish almost every single day. That allows them the flexibility to go whenever they feel like it. But since they claim they’ll go every day, they still have to have an observer assigned every single day. But since they don’t go as often as they’re claiming, that leads to the cancellations.
I wonder if your company can have a model where you are assigned to one or two fisherman instead of random trips. That way you are sure to get trips since they will need to get some trips in
Maine is so beautiful ….have you spoken to others workers to find if they are experiencing so many cancellations? I think you’re right to re-evaluate the feasibility of this “job” and begin a new job search.
Rachel, I'm so happy for you, that your move is nearly complete, and that you are in Maine. I have vacationed in Maine a whole bunch of times, and it is one of my favorite places on this earth (along with the Cape and the Adirondacks). Breathe deep and enjoy your surroundings. I'm sure you will work through the work issues, because you are such a hard worker! Good luck!
What about a remote job? I do have to be available "normal" work hours, but having the freedom of no commute and not having to be in an office feels amazing. Sometimes I set up my laptop in the backyard, sometimes a coffee shop. It's nice to be able to switch laundry, make smoothies, cuddle with the dogs throughout the day 🙂 But I agree, the market is trash. Was in a toxic corporate job for the last year and it took me 10 months to find another remote job. Hopefully it gets better soon.
I’m so glad to hear you found something that works for you! The job I had prior to this one was a mostly remote job, with some field work (which is my preference). But unfortunately, that job furloughed me back in January and the job I have now is the first one that I was offered during that time of unemployment. It took about 3 months to get this job. I only got it because I’ve done this job before (15 years ago) and it only requires a HS diploma. I’m definitely going to get back into job hunting now that I’m settled. It should get better soon!
