Having spent ten years working with players on the DP World Tour and Staysure Tour and now the majority of my time at Precision Golf in Surrey working with club golfers to elite amateurs; I want to take my experience to all of you, here on RU-vid.
UNDERSTANDING how to appraise your golf swing is ultimately how you will improve, not simply learning how to fix “your slice” for instance.
EDUCATE yourself on how your golf swing evolves over time and works within your “eco system” of moves and tendencies to golf your ball the best way possible.
APPLICATION is crucial to getting results, I’ll show you how.
I want you to play the best golf possible with a little education and a little less sugar rush changes. Come along for a ride that will sure to IMPROVE YOUR GOLF unquestionably.
You can also find me on Sky Sports from time to time but mainly at Precision Golf…

Superb video stuart, very entertaining and my 'cover drive' to an absolute tee. Without a high tee on a box, what can i do to feel this please? Thx again
Please correct me if I have misunderstood so what you are saying is there is no down cock of the left wrist into impact, your maintaining downward pressure on the handle while keeping the club head up and rotating it around your body? So the left wrist does not extend into the ball in a downward motion? Thanks in advance
@@GoodGolfCoaching if that is the case then at what time do the left wrist extend, at the ball ?or after impact? because your ball elevated drill at no time does your left wrist extend at ball impact and beyond? Hands low club elevated to enable hitting the ball at waist high.
@@GoodGolfCoaching yes I have done the drill and at the ball, but to keep the same angle at impact you can’t straighten your left wrist because you would dump the club, that’s why I’m asking when do you extend the left wrist? 👍
As I say, not an exact science and there is no chance any player in the world can stop their wrists from unloading down. So, manage the angles; measure AoA, Dynamic Loft, curvature and much more to know how much is enough or too much. Hope that helps.
Continue watching another video…I can create the “down” not by physically pushing down (causes shaft pitch out) but the down is created by the pressure in the left foot(rotation)?
That is absolutely Good Coaching 👏. Can having the wrong clubs cause the to down and handle up? Personally, I definitely feel the toe down turning over the majority of the time but what comes first in a bad swing, the managing of the handle resulting in toe down or the early extension? Keep it up Coach
Timely video, thanks for this Stu. I saw your short of “is this it?” Where you showed the “feel” of what is happening in the down swing and I realized that I wasn’t getting down enough with my swing. I pushed down, but I think I was standing to high. I’d flush the ball, but my aoa was not good. I have a Mevo plus and took it to the range yesterday…I’m happy to report that after I got the hands down lower, my aoa was much much better. I think many golfers don’t quite understand how low the hands need to get to the ground in the swing..the pressure down isn’t just with the arms and hands, it takes the legs and hands and the entire body to get the shaft and angle correct to hit down on the ball. My exaggerated feel felt like I was going to drag my hands on the ground…but in reality, it just shallowed my swing enough to be able to hit down on the ball through impact. Amazing stuff, thanks Stu!
My website is just a sign up for my database which I will be working on over the Christmas. Have many ideas in the planning. The channel membership is to get all my content ahead of release. I normally have one or two videos already loaded up for members to watch before a full release to subscribers. And I guess it’s support for the channel and all my hard work 😊❤️
......just what I needed before heading out Stu. 4 man team scramble today. That little move in this video has me hitting the better than I ever have. It's just trying to keep it up under pressure...... thanks ⛳🍺
......well.....1 under is better than 1 over😁... couldn't get my driver working today. Damn Stu.... it's so frustrating flushing my driver on the range and then not bringing it to the golf course. I wish I could blame it on nerves but I can't......oh well, if it was easy it'd be boring........⛳🍺
This was a brilliant explanation of why I have been shanking the ball so much in recent years. My path has become so much in to out with the high handle doing exactly as you described. I’ve been concentrating on getting the club to exit left with not much success. Can’t wait to give this a try. Keep up the great content.
Also, I just wanted to suggest a video, which I don't think you have done. If you think it unneccessary or not beneficial, then please ignore this. You often talk about the 'pull' and 'swing' phases either in isolation or as part of the whole swing. I would be intereseted to know how best to think of the transition between these two phases; how to conceptualise and feel it. For example, whether (ideally given a good grip thus, looser grip pressure) the swing phase happens fairly passively as a result of the pulling force, or instead should be a conscious effort. I imagine this probably depends on the player/their ballflight/club weight/ soundness of preceding motions etc. In short, some nuance around this area between pulll and swing phases (maybe in relation to other aspects) would be very interesting and educational.
Hi Chris - pull phase and swing phase I have explained and demonstrated on many occasions and explained exactly what you’re referencing. The pull and swing is only one element like all the factors of the swing. Depends whether your pull and swing is on the correct pitch, your legs are fired up, face is good; handle track good, so so so many variables. Hope that’s helps.
I'm sorry to say that after watching this video, I watched pro swings in slow motion and they just don't do what you're advocating. Their hands drop much more inside.
@@GoodGolfCoaching So...am I misperceiving what pros are doing? Or, I'm not misperceiving what they are doing and I'm not capable of doing what they are doing with relation to how they drop their hands? Or does the fact that they make significant lateral moves towards the target, make dropping the hands correct?
@@GoodGolfCoaching your videos build on each other, I normally don’t like to watch too many instructional videos as I don’t want my head filled with thoughts on different movements throughout the swing. I find your stuff complements, I can set my grip and then not think about it, I can push the Swiss ball in back swing and then just concentrate on left hand down through the swing. 👍🏼👍🏼 I’m in Australia, if you are ever touring, I’d love to get a lesson.
Exactly what I discovered from the broom. Elevating the club at setup feels amazing. This move makes the backswing so easy. All my lessons…told…pulling club inside. Couldn’t fix it…literally within minutes…this fixed all the years of confusion. 👍
Hello Stu. The more content I watch…the more all the natural things I’ve done make sense. But I tried to fight my instincts because of being told…”that’s not how you do it” You stress light end heavy end in this series as well as most of your videos…especially your broom series. How does that relate to club selection..meaning shaft weight flex swing weight etc. (you mentioned swing a heavy club-within physical capability) Can you do a video on how your swing philosophy correlates to “club fitting “. Lie angles etc. I’ve been through many fittings & told this length ..this lie…working on your material much of those requirements are vanishing. Much appreciated. Thank you
I love golf. I love it. I don't even watch these videos cause I need too I just love all the little tid bits of info each pro gives or each good player gives. So enjoyable.
Good video. I believe I commented on one previously about left elbow. I'm fairly new to golf (4months) and been scoring high 80s on average. Recently I've been slicing a lot more and can't seem to hit straight. I've figured out that where I'm trying to keep my takeaway straight im not rotating forearms enough which makes my swing too steep. I couldn't work out how the pros get shallower backswings which to me felt an impossible position to get to. Then I realised just by rotating my forearms more it shallows the club and lo and behold you have a video on it too 😂👍👌
@@GoodGolfCoaching you must think I'm making this up 😂 but what I do is I try to figure it out myself first and then I'll search RU-vid to see if anyone's talking about it! I just searched forearm rotation and this came up. I think about golf way too much lol
Concept seems very logical, but trying to build this into a fast moving swing seems impossible. I guess maybe it’s the cliche feel versus real because you have to have your arms moving in the full swing and they will come away from your body.
Thank you for the clarification. I've always had a slight bend in my left wrist in the backswing (with the correct grip!). When I tried to change that, it just felt unnatural and one of the first balls with this grip manipulation flew straight to the right.
Great explanation! This makes so much sense! My old swing was exactly what you describe with all of the "early extension" issues caused by the handle moving low to high. The high to low feeling allows for much more rotation of the body and when you get it right it feels very powerful. Making this swing transition creates very different sensations during the swing. I feel like my upper body should stay "covering" the ball on the backswing and the through swing and that coming through the hitting zone my right shoulder moves out toward the ball as the left hip moves back to create the room necessary for the hands to exit low and left. Do I have it right?
Hey David, you have it exactly right my friend. Super happy you enjoyed this video. One of my most enjoyable edits yet. Trying to get a little more creative!
@@GoodGolfCoaching I loved the presentation in this video. You are turning into an entertainer in addition to having great content. Should help you grow your channel.
Love the detailed picture at 11:31 of the specific placement of the club in hands, One question tho, you say rotate your forearms, even tho it seems like your elbow crease is getting closer to the camera wich for me seems like the upper arm would be rotating in the shoulder socket. So could you please clearify where you would prefer the lead elbow should point in setup😊 i thing i am a bit hypermobile in My elbows so this might be a ME problem😂
Very helpful explanation and was indeed insightful. In the past I did manage to hit driver further than I ever have with that awkward low dynamic loft and upstrike because I saw it depicted on a graphic published by Trackman. It worked a handful of times but caused a slew of problems of all shapes and sizes! This is not my strength so I will enoy working on your prescribed driver drill.
I Love the way you teach and the concept, but i am a perfektionist when it comes to the grip, have watched your grip videos a lot of times but i am still wondering about what part of the hand(s) the grip should exactly sit. "In the fingers is not detailed enpugh for me, i need to know what YOU teach,If it is middle joints of the fingers of the lead hand fingers, where the palm metta the hand, or "under" the knuckles (towards the palm) or diagonally between fingers and under heel pad. same goes for trail hand, have seen all your grip videos but can't see in any of them how it looks from the palm side of the hand and it is making me go insane to not have the clearitt...
Hi Robin, going to be really difficult to be as precise as you need. Have you seen my “This is it” video? Face Angle control video I did recently? This will give as much detail as possible without seeing where your grip actually is in person. Best wishes Stu
Mate, I have no idea what you are on about. But I’ll take a video on the wrists movement, you executed at 1.39 to 1.45. THATs what hobby players need to learn, and until they learn that movement you made, all other stuff will always be what occurs day by day. Looking forward to it. Thx
I second the show off comment , and will add that i am no way in a position to argue BUT ….. I have been plagued with a hook throughout this season (irons-the longer the lefter) so decided today to stop peeing about and put an end to it (hopefully) … The fix thus far has been getting a better understanding of my path through impact and how to create a more down the line path without trying to unpick the whole thing , about 130 balls and a good couple of hours later ive found that i have basically been closing myself out so much that i am involuntarily closing the face in order to ‘get back to target’ its very hard from there to just aim further right because thats the problem ! Allowing myself to keep my swing but open up a little took time and a few pull hooks but i soon got it that i can be open ( square) and allow the hands through rather than closing through . It really has worked wonders and put me back where i was pre season ( feels included) . My point is i HAD to open up - or at least stop being closed . Which is kinda the same thing … Im still crap , but im straight up crap now 🙈
Question on broom impact conditions…when pulling broom out and down and the head swings around…I feel some cup in the left wrist(not the “flat left wrist” ) with a square face. If I try and make the left wrist flat…face trouble occurs. Am I in the right track?
Thank you for the confirmation. I was struggling with a closed face despite pull & push down. Realized I was adding forearm rotation at left arm parallel. An unnecessary move? The face was better oriented when my backswing was a turn & pressing heel pad down till top of swing. Tried it with the broom & better face conditions. Hoping I’m “sweeping” correctly!!
Great explanation of the differences. Next time I go to the range I'm definitely going to give it a go moving the ball position way forward, surely I won't be able to hit down on the driver then 😀 When is Monday Night Live back?
@GoodGolfCoaching I did catch it but it's not the same without you Stu. Yin and Yang. 2 techies in the sane room last night had me falling asleep after half an hour 🤣🤣
......love this lesson Stu. Really reinforces what you've been teaching. That little swinging of the club head feeling as compared to pulling the handle thru impact has helped me more than I can tell you.....thanks so much ⛳🍺
@@GoodGolfCoaching ......I don't wanna jinx our team, but we have another company scramble tourny Wednesday...... I'm feeling pretty good about this one. Thanks for all the confidence Stu.......⛳🍺
I'm guessing most of us suffer from a basic fear of addressing the driver several inches behind the ball? My driver is naturally OTT so I've always had a nasty fade. I have tried various shallowing advice but in truth I've failed. If I'm not going OTT then I tend to hit hard left along the ground. It feels like my downswing moves outside the ball so it feels like my set up position maybe too close?? I'll try your tip about getting further behind the tee.... Cheers
I'm using 4wood at the moment but yesterday I concentrated on strengthening my grip as you prescribe, and wow for the first time in ages I hit reasonably straight and this gave me more confidence to really release rather than hold back in fear. 👍 Taken me 9 months of hell before realising it was mainly my grip!!!
