Resets I took in the Vide fight: 0, beat it first try. Resets I took in the La'mani fight: 1, I had no elemental coverage La'mani is stronger than Vide
Would love to see individual videos for each character from the first game! At least have them morph into Decisive Battle II! (though you could go for all 3, meaning a total of 24)
At first, I thought Rai Mei deserved CC1. But this intro into this action packed song while fighting a thunder spear warrior on the top of a tower, yeah CC2 is perfect.
I selected Partitio as my main because I really liked his character design - he showed off positive energy and stylish flair. I didn't regret it one bit - Merchant is a job that can do a little of everything, including that absurdly useful Rest ability (and just like Tressa, passing boosted Sidestep buffs to everyone is wonderfully broken). I didn't even need to hire anyone outside of completing sidequests, he's highly competent on his own. And that positive energy was not misinterpreted at all, coming through via excellent voicework. Guy'll fight for his values, but then turn around and help his opponent back to their feet because that's one of his values as well. His story really does make it feel like the world is becoming better because of him, with his storyline investments paying off in gameplay enhancements. Unlocking a sound test in taverns because he helps the invention of recorded sound flourish was a really neat idea, a way to put it in-universe that isn't at all out of place. Also, he gets four sets of Merchant sprites under the player's control - three of which are exclusive to his opening chapter. Other characters get two or three at most, like Agnea's change of dress.
Dang, the first Octopath was already a good game. But boy... Octopath 2 was better in every way. The story of each character was so damn good. This whole game is a masterpiece, and the soundtrack is in its own league.
Facts. Lowkey OT2 was the underdog GOTY of last year for me as someone who was really disappointed by how OT1 fell short. It felt surreal to see every problem I had fixed, which sequels rarely achieve (looking at you TotK)
@Charnutboy ot1 left me wanting more, so many sections of the map left unexplored or just small overall, the grindiness of it all, the lack of companionship between the travelers with no tie in with the major plot (kinda), it gave me no reason to fight galdera (which i didnt even know existed) OT2 does a much better in every regard. Graphically, musically, on a story level, both a traveler and overarching plot, the relationship between the travelers feel much stronger and real aided by their reactions in fights (when they break or kill someone or are on the verge of death), actually having the travelers talk to eachother with their voices and having an actual final boss that ties in everything and everyone with no loose ends. The fact that the moonshade villains spell an anti OCTOPATH is enough to make my climax. Vide and the Shadow are much more compelling concepts over Galdera too, the helpnessless the moonshade order feels because of the world wronging them so much is completely relatable and scaringly accurate to how despair makes you feel. Im also glad that Ori was able to stay alive because she had doubts about ending it all, mirroring how just one connection with someone can bring you back from the brink. Partitio as my protag made everything also much more positive, which helps alot since 6 out of 8 stories are incredibly dark and/or depressing. Primrose as my starter was amazing too, but in some weird way, every single ot2 character outclasses her HEAVILY. I have no idea how they were able to outclass primrose in every way (design, character, story, utilty in battle etc)
Humorously, the title and thumbnail of this video was my first exposure to Octopath traveler. As such, I spent the entire first game and a good portion of the second convinced that what in reality was La'mani was actually Vide. Seeing other comments though, it seems like I wasn't too far off (at least in fanon territory)
I love Osvald’s theme. You can just feel the simmering hatred from his years of imprisonment ready to finally boil over on the unfortunate soul who stands in his way.
Ochette, "because the first choice is always the most important" Casti, "because some people can't be save by common medicine" Themenos, "because the truth is always hidden behind the flame" Osvald, "because love is the only, and true magic" Partitio, "because the most valuable thing can be sold for 1 silver coin" Agnea, "because Hope is the most beautiful song" Throné, "because liberty is the key for all treasure" Hikari, "because you're not just blood, you're far more"
