I was wondering how the music would compare to OT1 - because he hit it out of the park on the first go - and it hasn't disappointed. In particular I always loved these transition versions of the themes, and while I couldn't tell you what my favourite is across both games (I'm currently really digging Agnea's but that might be recency bias) these 8 are definitely worthy contributors.
@@VideoGaming4Dummies DB2 is fantastic obviously. But hearing the characters theme give way into THIS??? I dont know if its the mixing or what, but the instrumentation just feels so much sharper in this than DB2, and that goes a long way. The stakes are just so much higher in CC2 with the anthemic horns that come in after the intro. DB2 is great atmosphere. CC2 is great cinema.
@@chasinggatsby6738 The composer really outdid themselves with this game. ^^ I especially love the Final Chapter battle theme, "For the Dawn", and the second phase version, "The Journey for [X] Ends", which incorporates the character themes marvelously into the former song depending on who the central character is.
What’s amazing is that, even without remembering these themes, you can easily reconnect them to the characters they represent because of how distinct they are. From the sussy, sassy undertones of Temenos’s theme to the bright, bouncy cheerfulness of Agnea’s, every one of them nails the character so perfectly with instrumentation, rhythm, chord progressions… this may be one of the most meticulously crafted soundtracks in any game I’ve played.
Yeah, I was just thinking about how well Osvald's fit while just sitting and listening before his final battle. What sounds like a bass instrument of some kind on the main melody, to match Osvald's "hulking, bearlike physique" if I remember the quote correctly, with the percussion sounding like a prison gang, it just fits him and his story so well.
I know, right? It's like each of them is saying something that each character would. In Pursuit of the Hunt: "Yahooo~! I'm not letting you get away!" (Energetic and tribal, just like Ochette) In Pursuit of Memories: "...I'd rather not hurt you, but you leave me no choice!" (Regretful and filled with formality, but with a pinch of hope) In Pursuit of Freedom: "If you're going to stand in my way... You'd better be ready to pay the price." (Somewhat sad, but determined) In Pursuit of Vengeance: "You took everything from me... NOW I'M GOING TO RETURN THE FAVOR." (Angry and bombastic, but still with a hint of intelligence) In Pursuit of Happiness: "Looks like y'all weren't as smart as ya thought! Time to pay the piper." (I dunno, there's just this whole "Gotcha~!" or "underdog's comeback" feeling to it...) In Pursuit of Hope: "I won't let you crush my dreams... OR anyone else's!" (Cheerful and optimistic- I can feel my anxiety for the upcoming scuffle melting away) In Pursuit of Truth: "As posited, so demonstrated, my friend... Now, repent your sins!" (This one has a more snarky, demeaning feeling to it- like a prosecutor who's just caught a criminal in their lies) In Pursuit of Kingship: "Let this be the last bit of blood I have to shed... For the sake of a brighter tomorrow!" (You can just FEEL like you can make it towards better times, if you can just get through this battle)
@@battlemageazulio1019 Agree with all of them, except Castiis transition. For me it feels more like "Get behind me! Get to safety! I`ll handle this!" Though to be fair, Castiis Saih episode left the biggest impact on me plus her splash art of her carrying the child to safety. Her transition has this extreme determination screaming "As long as i draw breath, i WILL extend a helping hand!" But these are just my two cents.
@@nitehawk86 It was that way in the first game, too. Ophilia Cyrus Tressa Olberic Primrose Alfyn Therion H'aanit And in 2, we have Ochette Cassti Throné Osvald Partitio Agnea Temenos Hikari
@@Hyperneosonic97 Fun fact, the order is relative to the starting zones of those characters too. For example: Ophilia is in the region neighboring Cyrus'. (O>C), Cyrus' leads to Tressa's place(C>T), Tressa's place connects to Olberic's(T>O). Then Primrose(O>P), then Alfyn(P>A) then Therion(A>T) then finally H'aanit(T>H) In short: Going from the top-most northern region where Ophilia is, then clockwise around the continent results in OCTOPATH.
The thing I love about the travelers and these sequences are they are normal people not super people what lets them take these bosses on is pure willpower
I think some people are misunderstanding what I mean first off I need to say normal in their world is different than ours so ochette being a beastling still counts as a normal person (weird looking to humans sure), magic yeah it’s a thing osvald looking pretty normal now tho I’ll give an exception to hikari who appears to have a demon in him I can’t tell yet point is these are folk who are winning what should be near impractical odds
Agnea’s solo dance show where you are fighting against a celebrity’s fame almost seems more metaphorical. Partitio’s straightforward enough since there was a crowd of other bystanders nearby.
You can easily make out the personality of each of the characters from each of these themes: Ochette - innocence combined with strength Castii - quiet determination Throne - helpless grief Osvald - cold rage Partitio - boundless optimism Agnea - uplifting grace Temenos - Sherlock Hikari - valiant honor
@@LoreGoshi i got just straight up Sherlock vibes. A condescending yet well meaning asshole with his own Watson in Crick, who's asshole demeanour crumbles when he sees his best friend Crick die. That's quintessential Sherlock to me
@@edcaous Not wrong, though I think just in general with the growth of the video game industry the average production value has increased, which also includes orchestral soundtracks. I think there's more great VGM going around, even if only due to the sheer quantity of it.
@@SILVERONINDisco Elysium, Xenoblade, Baldur’s Gate, Spiritfarer, Triangle Strategy, Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, the list goes on. If you’re not finding masterpieces in this golden age you’re not looking hard enough
Never played this game, even the first game. But that first 2 minutes..... I am mesmerized. what a powerful song. Will pick this game up on the next steam sales for sure
And those themes are for specific characters, but they all flawlessly flow into a transition and then into various boss themes depending on when you finish the dialogue. Its a beautiful work of music all in all. You can see the transition at work in the first 80 seconds of this video, for instance ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R3wMk_nKJ0w.html
Same goes for the characters of the first OT, although it is curious how the first letter from each one of the villains from CotC (except Sazantos) also spell Octopath...
Absolute banger intros (it's not like any of the others are bad; these are just the ones that have me putting this video on loop): Partitio (somehow his pre-fight alternate theme is just as good in a different way. Probably because his drive to succeed is so inspirational, and this version just oozes that) Agnea (probably my favourite conversion out of the lot - her sweet theme song gets converted into this high tempo pre-boss masterpiece) Hikari (already a great theme, the instruments and flow fit battle just perfectly. I particularly started to love it in the lead up to the chapter 4 boss where it was so powerful) Honorable mention: Osvald (his theme song has a bit of a menacing undertone given his story is about single-focused revenge, but the extra weight they give it here just really amps that feeling up)
I love Osvald’s theme. You can just feel the simmering hatred from his years of imprisonment ready to finally boil over on the unfortunate soul who stands in his way.
I've been trying to think of a possible cast for a possible Octopath Traveller 3- keeping the same deities, but also changing up the jobs a bit. Aelfric the Flamebringer would be represented by Omar the Paladin, who'd wield Spears and Bludgeons (basically Staves), as well as light magic. Dohter the Charitable would be represented by Caswell the Herbalist. Similar role to the Apothecary. He'd wield Axes and Daggers. Alephan the Scholarking would be represented by Trish the Mechanist. She'd wield Bludgeons and Bows, with different gadgets she can use to find and exploit weaknesses. Sealteage the Lady of Grace would be represented by Oliver the Bard. He'd use Bows exclusively, and use his songs to heal and empower allies. Brand the Thunderblade would be represented by Presea the Mercenary. Basically her job is Warrior with a different coat of paint, but with Swords and Axes as opposed to Swords and Spears. Drafendi the Huntress would be represented by Archie the Trapper. He'd use Spears and Daggers and have a counter-based fighting style. Bifelgan, the Great Merchant, would be represented by Tisiphone the Noble. She'd use Swords exclusively, but other than that, it'd just be Merchant with a different coat of paint. And finally, Aeber, Prince of Thieves, would be represented by Hannah the Acrobat. She'd exclusively use Daggers and have a toolkit focused on evasion and disruption. As for the overall themes of their journeys... Omar's would be Justice. Cast out of his order as a falsely-accused heretic and oath-breaker, he seeks the true culprit of his supposed crime. Caswell's would be Life/Health. Born with a debilitating illness that shortens his lifespan, he seeks a cure. Trish's would be The Future. None of her patents have really taken off, but she still seeks to improve the lives of everyone with her inventions. Oliver's would be The Past. He seeks out legends of old to tell the world about them, possibly even making a legend or two of his own along the way. Presea's would be Revenge. A fellow member of her mercenary troupe slaughtered the other members, save for her, and she is PISSED. Archie's would be Knowledge. He seeks to catalogue the unknown beasts of the world, especially one elusive beast that his mentor dedicated his life to finding, albeit unsuccessfully. Tisiphone's would be Prosperity(for everyone, not just herself). Her sheltered upbringing leaves her rather naive about the world, but once she learns what the commonfolk have to go through, she wholeheartedly steps up to the plate to hopefully give them a better life. and Hannah's would be Redemption. A former assassin who nowadays is part of a performing caravan. Her past catches up to her though, and she finds herself searching for absolution.
Ya know if they just gave us a free copy of the ost we can download to our devices along with the game they wouldn't have to wage this war against youtube.
I wonder that you specific use this scene along with all of the musics because you want to send the message to SQEN that they should not lay their finger on decent OST yet again? SQEN remove all Octopath traveller 2's ost from youtube lately.
I usually only play games that have great boss music and this one sounds fiya ! Never player the first game though. Should I get the 1st before or I can skip ?
They are both relatively independent from each other but they're both very good. The first one didn't have a lot of character interaction between the characters, but the music slapped!
Although 1 was more fun for me personally, 2 is the better game by FAR. It improves in every way and aspect, with the ONLY worse change being that you can't unequip items from characters not in your party anymore but that's litteraly it
Going to thoroughly enjoy this... until SqEx takes it down. They're pretty brutal to the fans in that way; won't do a good digital release of their album in the west, but won't let people put it on RU-vid either.
Ok, I found something interesting: O philia C yrus T ressa O lberic P rimrose A lfyn T herion H ´aanit --- O chette C astti T hroné O svald P artitio A gnea T emenos H ikari -- O ??? C eraphina T ytos O skha P ardis A uguste T atlock H erminia
Ochette, "because the first choice is always the most important" Casti, "because some people can't be save by common medicine" Themenos, "because the truth is always hidden behind the flame" Osvald, "because love is the only, and true magic" Partitio, "because the most valuable thing can be sold for 1 silver coin" Agnea, "because Hope is the most beautiful song" Throné, "because liberty is the key for all treasure" Hikari, "because you're not just blood, you're far more"
I loved the OST of this game, but I must say I've got a little disappointed about the characters "pre battle" themes, they're just... remixes of their intro themes
That’s kinda the point. First game did the exact same thing. It’s kinda like saying, “hey. This is my boss. Doesn’t belong to anyone else.” So that it makes every story feel more unique.
