Hi, I'm Paul Evans from Dorset, England, UK. My channel shows some classic and rare radios in action - plus a few electronic oddities. All radios displayed have passed through my collection. I'm forever trying to downsize, often with limited success!

I was just given one of these. The FM antenna has pulled out. I am guessing it is soldered inside somewhere and runs out of the same hole as the power cord?
A slight correction, Bush/Alba as a company no longer exists having been bought by Argos and today part of Sainsbury's. It's nothing more than a name stuck on cheap Chinese made products and sold exclusively through Argos and Sainsbury's.
I can see a problem with fitting an aerial to that type of socket when it is on the side. The aerial will not stay upright because of the weight. So maybe bring it out a bit with adapters of some sort to clear the handle and fix it upright with a velcro strip round the handle or a blob of Blu Tack.
Not sure what you mean - I thought I did that. I see it as a fairly good amateur attempt. A successfully sold it on eBay for much more than I bought it for and the buyer loved it - but, having done around 3 're-covers', it's just not time/cost effective so I do very few of these. I'm guessing you packed it in for the same reason?
@@kendom33 Take it all apart and use a blunt chisel to scrape it off. You are lucky it's already a bad one. You may find the cloth substrate is loose in places as well so dampen it and tear it off totally. It allows you to use a decent cushion or curtain fabric.
Hi. I am looking for something like this to play music from USB. Most don't show tag info (eg artist/album/track). Do you know if this one does? Thanks.
Didn't try it on USB, I'm afraid. But this one is fairly unusual in that it shows artist and title, plus album art when on Bluetooth. So I would think it might...
@@PaulEvansRadiosAndMore Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for one I tried in a shop (another brand). I wrote to Auna asking this - they replied just to say that all info is on the web page or manual - and this info wasn't there!
I have the original Play. That too has rechargeable batteries. You're probably aware that mine, and your later version, are made by Sangean so they are good but expensive sets. The little Intempo is great and sounds fantastic. It has a very sensitive but obviously DSP chip. If only they put the on switch on the front!
What an interesting project - thanks for sharing ! Kudos to you for working with the original radio and not just slapping a Bluetooth module in there !
Exactly the same interface that’s on my Majority internet radio except I have a CD player too. Well I did, the thing packed up after a year. Just flashes and makes a crackling sound when I plug it in.
Ive recently taken an interest in The Spirit of St Louis merch i have a spirit of st Louis radio alarm clock the (one in the wooden case ) on the way. I have tried in vein to find out who makes them but had no luck , any clue ?
I was given one of these recently, it was very mucky but cleaned up well and is in almost perfect condition. However, mine had one transistor with 'tin whiskers' which meant having to remove and take apart the IF module (a fiddly job that's not easy). The module had 2 AF116 transistors and one AF115. The 116s were both OK but the 115 had shorts, so I soldered the ebc wires together and shoved 50 volts between them and the case, that cleared the shorts, so the set now works on all bands (only FM worked, before). Whilst I was in the module I changed the 5 electrolytics as they all tested leaky. It's a nice set, but a shame they opted for those horrid 'modules' and then made them so hard to get at!
As a big fan of Radio Caroline, I want one of these to pull in 648kHz here in the Midlands. And it might even pull Manx Radio in on 1368kHz too, although I can't get it in the car here
Change your car! (clearly). MW on my 2019 Renault Scenic radio is pretty good in terms of sensitivity and selectivity (just wish its bandwidth could be increased) - swung the deal when I bought it. Wish Ofcom would permit a further power increase on 648 kHz - after all, it's only us anoraks who would listen outside the official service area...
His big brother the CRF 220 / 230 are the king off the radio according to Sony in their ad ! I do have them both, and they are exeptional radio's , but i have also the CRF 150 and 160 and they are good as well The CRF 230 Price in first year of sale: 2,998.00 DM !!
Lovely radio, I have the R606-MB . Wish my model had a line in so I could play my phone thorough it so as to future proof it when FM transmitters are switched off in 2030
Would typically sell for about £50 on eBay in this condition. Collectable radios are not going to fund your pension these days - what sort of device would you be able to buy new for that price?
Thank you! I now have a red one - probably no point in making a video as otherwise it's exactly the same. I managed to rejuvenate the red leatherette with some cheaply-bought material paint from eBay. Would've been difficult to recover..
Ive just bought one from a private sale advertised on a listing site ..£25.bargain.It should be considered fun ..not a replica of a real vintage radio .. for the right price ...take it
Exactly. But the tuner is quite sensitive on both fm & am and good sound quality, though let down by poor speakers. You could improve it if you could be bothered! I nearly did, but as I was selling it for a friend I let it go...
Do you mean digital display? Or DAB? DAB radios are not really suitable for long-distance listening (DX-ing) as in the UK digital transmission blocks operate on limited number of frequencies and so installing a rooftop aerial can actually cause interference problems. If you mean analogue with a digital display, then the Tecsun range is well regarded. Thank you for visiting my channel.
hi there, having a similar issue i so agree with your opinions about there exterior quality im seriously considering doing the same thing, i wish you should how you restored the handel . by the way you should be proud of the achievement a much deserved cup of tea 🙂
Next time you can you a stabiliser ( therm o web no sew) and that gives good adhesion and no fraying. Thank you for this video. Pity Robert’s can’t do a repair service.
One point.....like all radios from this era......potentiometer crackle. However, a squirt of switch cleaner often cures it.......for a while! PS. The batteries cost £5 each.....at the moment!
