There it is, the video of the spiraled column lathe. Got some great potential no doubt. What was going on with the power feed ? Was it getting hung up a little with the entry cut being on the turn ? Will be great to see what you make from these buddy, great video and I'm glad I finally seen it after seeing the Instagram videos of it.
I was hoping to see some footage of milling after this adjustment and for you to say, finally youve got it figured out. I sure hope you have anyways. Surprising how much slop is in the frame, i cant remember it being that much. I hope youve got it sorted now buddy.
Wow, when i eventually visit, i need to come when these shows are on youve been putting on recently. I love old nostalgic equipment like this and to step back in time to see all this would be awesome. Thanks for showing how cool these shows are.
Them Rippers aren't holding up to nothing are they bud. Whilst i was at the APF show, others had mentioned about blade breakages and I said since they've changed owners they've been worse. Try to see if you have any joy with Woodmizer blades also buddy, ooh and not forgetting those Stellite blades I mentioned to you. Nice production though buddy
Man you don't rest do you buddy. Nice build on the firewood stand and those signs made on the cnx router is a nice touch too, very professional. I wish you all the best with it buddy. The stand turned out really nice too and being able to move around with the tractor is awesome. Nice work there buddy 👍
What kind of witchcraft is this ? Even if can't do that in post edit and you can. You must spill the magic on how that is done 😄 Nice work to you and Garret, some easy work done there with some awesome guys.
Awesome guys, absolutely awesome. Nothing better than bonding over a sawmill. Cant wait til my boys are of that age and they can appreciate just what we have and what it can do for us. Nice seeing Becca out there too. great job all round 👏
Wow what an awesome show man. I love seeing vintage machinery. We have shows like that here in the UK but not to that extent you have there. Them machines are just amazing and nicely kept also. Thanks for the video buddy
@@everydaywithmenick Nick, this is one of the bigger ones in the Midwest. Owning an old 1942 Farmall M myself, this kind of show puts me in my happy place. Thanks Buddy for watching and always taking the time to comment.
Thanks! Had 3 tanks that did this while I was running generator after Hurricane. Didn't know what to do and never heard of this! You saved me a bunch of money. Subscribed.
Thanks so much for sharing! I'm 55 scheduling my first surgery ever, and it's for a knee replacement surgery. To say I am experiencing anxiety would be an understatement. Your post is reassuring. Thank you!
Probably we are all different in healing afterwards of having a partial or total knee replacement. I had a partial knee replacement in January 2024, ten days in hospital with terrible pain for the first week approx, once the pain got better l improved at a rapid rate. Was given the ok clearance by knee surgeon at first appointment, now l can bend knee as good as ever even kneeling which seemed horrendous at first. You have to bend your knee as much as you can in the first three months, pain or no pain. The strange thing is that the partial knee replacements are the ones that people l know have trouble with, the full knee replacements seem to go better. There are very few people l know who can knell after a knee replacement, but you can if you keep at it. I am so grateful that l had my knee done, the pain of standing up and walking was dreadful before.
@@markshepherd7367 glad to hear you're feeling great. You're right. Flexion is the number one thing to work on. Have a great week and thank you for the comment.
Those split ends will make great firewood. Once dry hickory burns great. I'd go back and get that stump for slabs or firewood. Didn't appear to be any center rot, that's a real plus. The trees didn't look to be that old compared to the old hollow squirrel den trees I've cut up for firewood. You've got some real nice stuff there. Make some 1.5 or 2 inch planks they wear like iron. Makes a good floor for an old barn hay loft.
@@jims6308 Jim that's what I'm thinking with those split logs. I am looking forward to cutting open a couple and see what hickory is all about. As for that stump I could go back and get it. But it's too wide for my mill. Thanks for the suggestions. Have a great weekend
@@rodneyslone5797 Rodney, that's what I'm hearing lol. It's brutal on a chainsaw too lol. I'll let you all know how it goes. Have not gotten it up on the mill yet. Thanks for the support. Have a great weekend.
I always hate having to cut a stump off that high off the ground, but a double like that will never hinge and fall the way you want it if you cut below where it's joined. You always hear how hard the wood is, but the brittle aspect is surprising! Almost have to cut 10 foot lengths to get 8 foot of usable lumber.
I didn't like that tree one bit. It's cracked so easy. It'll be interesting milling it. 10 foot lengths maybe is maybe what I should have done. Thanks for the continued support my friend .
Good morning Jerry, this video will bring out all internet loggers 😂. That double tree was a bit sketchy. Did you cut the stump on that double tree? I had visions of setting that on the mill for cool cookies or slabs. That’s a bummer that they split, those were nice logs too. That hickory mills like concrete 😂. Have a great weekend buddy ‼️
I didn't take that big stump. I didn't think it would fit on the OS27. It probably would have made great slabs. Milling like concrete. That's scary lol. I'm hearing the same. You guys have a great weekend as well. Mike are you going to be at the Paul Bunyan?
@@BigelowWoodcraft unfortunately no, I’d love to go but the farm keeps me here. We’re getting the northern edge of the hurricane, more rain and wind. The rain has started already and the wind tonight.
That's not that bad. You'll just have to make sure you push yourself. Best of luck. It's a life changer. I have not found anything I can't do now. I forget it's there. Stay strong.
Hope you have better luck than me. Hickory was hard on the blades for me they are so hard . Beautiful wood tho maybe you can show me some tricks. I have a lot of hickory here.
@@markeustice618 Mark, I'm hearing horror stories. I couldn't believe how hard it was. After every face cut my chain was toast. I'm thinking just making slabs lol. Minimize the cuts. I'll try cutting one into boards. We will see what we come up with. Have a great weekend my friend.
@@BigelowWoodcraft I’ve pinched around the house back when. I took the sawhead off and left the bar in the tree. Told Michelle not to let the kids or dogs out till after the wind picked up. 😆
I have to assume that with the replacement you don't feel your knee anymore. For example, just sitting here watching and writing this both of my knees ache. I feel them all the time as opposed to my elbows or my hips. Other than a muscle strain how do you know when you've gone too far?
You're right. Immediately afterward your joint pain is gone but the surgery pain is there and it's a way different feeling. If I over did it I noticed a bit of swelling. I would just elevate it. Now, I have not found anything I can't do. It's been amazing.
Great info! I need both done but my doc is the Tampa Bay Rays surgeon so I'm in good hands. My pre-op appointment is at the end of October and maybe surgery early January. I can't say I'm looking forward to it but I had the first of 5 surgeries almost 40 years ago and I am so over this pain. Best of luck on the recovery!
@@brianlebrun2382 sorry to hear that you need surgery. On the bright side it's a life changer. You have time to get as fit as possible over the next couple months. Keep moving, I know it sucks. Stay positive you've got this. Keep me informed on your surgery.
I've considered building a "lathe" for milling octagons and pentagons but haven't accumulated all the parts I need, nor have I had the time to invest in the project yet. This new project of yours adds a new "twist" to my conceptual design. Really cool device! Thanks for sharing. Ed
@@jbarlazye911 hey Ed. With this lath I can index the log every 30 degrees and lock it in place. For that matter any polygon I can cut now. It's pretty cool. Thanks for the comment and have a great one.
Jerry spend every minute you can with your lovely wife life can be cruel I lost my wife to a heart attack last week love and treasure Jill best wishes to you both
Loved this! I'm day 26 days po and things have been really moving along well for me as well the last week and a half, granted, this was my first and hopefully my last. I had maco as well, only had 1 bad cry day. I had my moments, but every day gets better and better. Tolerable, but odd and uncomfortable and painful in the beginning for sure, but we are WARRIORS. Really doing so good on my PT, and moving along well. I was hyper extended when he went in and had NO idea either, my knee cap was basically popped inside out, everyone I know in my life says OMG you are standing so straight and tall...never realized it before! He said it could have been my injury from a pretty severe car accident in high school, I'm 42 now. Good luck to you!
You handled that "just a little thicker" board like a guy that wants to keep a helper around. Smart move on your part. As soon as the blade exited I could see it was about an 1/8 maybe 1/4 thicker. She must have caught the difference but was already into the cut. That's what they make planners for.
@@jims6308 I think you nailed it. I occasionally do it as well. And I have a planer lol. I'm keeping her. I just hope I can afford her lol. Have a great week.
