Them Rippers aren't holding up to nothing are they bud. Whilst i was at the APF show, others had mentioned about blade breakages and I said since they've changed owners they've been worse. Try to see if you have any joy with Woodmizer blades also buddy, ooh and not forgetting those Stellite blades I mentioned to you. Nice production though buddy

Nice slabs you got there. I use a log dog and the small loader to roll my big ones, unless I have help. Very similar to you and your nylon choker. Is tension the issue ? Those gotta be stress fractures breaking away from the weld. All the blades I've broken have been on the welds. Another awesome video my friend !!

@@tractorman4461 thank you. Those big slabs are definitely a challenge. I'm not sure about the tension too high. I've backed down the torque on the tensioning handle to 17.5 foot pounds. (I welded a nut on the handle) Frontier says about 5 turns from once the blade takes up. I'm at about 4 now. The Norwood sabertooth never broke on me. I just leveled my blade it was pretty bad. I'm hoping that helps. Thanks tractorman44 for the comment. Have a great weekend

@@BigelowWoodcraft I think there must be a way to determine tension by measuring deflection of the blade with the widest setting of the guides. I would think a sensitive hand held digital weight scale would give the readings as you torque down the tension....just a thought. I usually go by the five turns as suggested in the manual.

That was a good size log Jerry . Hopefully the blade company will do you a solid on some blades .👍🏻🇺🇸

These blades cut so good but they sure are not holding up. When I order more blades, they will hopefully have some answers for me. Thanks for watching Del. Have a great week and stay cool. Brutal here today.

I use ripper 37 blades, cant remember breaking one, the only difference i see in your mill and mine is that i have blade rollers. I have broken other manufactors blades, but sharpen ones.Congrats on 4K

Good morning Rodney. Strange isn't it? I've broken everyone off the 25 that I bought except for the remaining 10 I have left. Once these are gone I'll decide what I'm going to do. I bought these all at once so they could be a bad batch? When I go to order I'll see what they say. Thank you. Just went over 2 days ago. I never would have thought it. Thanks for all the continued support.

It still seems like those blades are hardened so much that they are brittle!! For that blade to break a second time, it would would have broken just from flexing after hitting the guards. I wonder how far it would flex between two Vice-grips before it snaps, a little or a lot?? I would bet on very little before snapping!!
@BigelowWoodcraft

@@timscartoys9321 Tim I'll do just that. Great idea.

Are those big timbers for one of your projects? They look heavy !

They are very heavy. Yes a new project. I'll unveil it as soon as it's done. If my vision is correct it's going to be pretty cool.

Good morning Jerry, that was a beautiful Sugar Maple. Definitely made you grunt. Those timbers are beautiful. You way more calm than I would be about those blades breaking. Norwood offers a blade that’s not the sabertooth. Have a good one buddy

Good morning Mike. I have a couple more to mill up too. I'm not sure what I'll use the others for yet. I really like the rippers but damn they just are not holding up. Norwood might be an option again. Thanks brother for the comment. Stay cool. Brutal here today.

I have only used Norwoods blades and have never broke one. I'd like to try a stellicut

@BigelowWoodcraft have you tried the blades that have a stellulite tip on every 3rd tooth? The Norwood rep told me that they cut very smooth and you get several hours on a sharp blade.
@BigelowWoodcraft
@BigelowWoodcraft Месяц назад
@coreyhannan4263 I have not tried them yet. I'll have to look into them a little closer. Thanks for the suggestion

Beautiful timbers. FWIW I've been using the Woodmizer WOW blades the last year or so and have good results. They're definitely not a Ripper 37, of which I"ve never used, but for my hobby milling they seem to work OK. Got to be frustrating having the blades break long before you know they are worn out. Have you tried welding any of them to try and get more life out of them? Especially since you have a setter and sharpener it's just money down the drain when they break and haven't even been sharpened once. Hang in there.
@BigelowWoodcraft
@BigelowWoodcraft Месяц назад
I have welded a couple and didn't get good results. Where I used to work we had a blade welder. It did the entire process for you. Welded and annealed. I just am not good enough with a mig welder to have them hold up for more that a log. They broke where I welded them. It's getting frustrating. I made a big adjustment the other day on my mill and I'm hoping it's going to help. So far so good. Thanks for the idea about the woodmizer blades. Have a great one and thanks for the comment
