Neuropeculiar was founded in 2018 to fill a gap in Italian associationism dedicated to the autism spectrum. It is an organisation founded and directed by autistic people, which presents itself in the panorama of the autism narrative as the Movement for Neurodiversity and which indicates the advocacy and promotion of self-representation rights. The horizon of the discourse that we intend to propose and nurture is that of the perspectives pertaining to social studies, hence Disability and Critical Autism Studies, which address the socio-cultural implications of the autism phenomenon. Neuropeculiar therefore wishes to be a vehicle that encourages the encounter and integration of these perspectives with those currently dominant, pertaining to a medical language, in order to contribute to a paradigm shift thanks to the concept of Neurodiversity, cultivating the coexistence of the plurality of human neurological expressions.
