Very nice Nic juat absolutely great info especially for a someone who is starting portraits. Just finished a portrait class and i understood the basics but what u just said in tbis make the basic more understandable to where u go nezt in the process and what techniques to use.. Its what was hung up on amd givea u fear of failing or stressed on if u'll actually be able to do it. Thaks my man for simplifying things. 🤙

I actually just did his free paint week. 3 subjects, still life clayfruit for learn the planes. 2nd is using the values now u know the planes but work another still life of Real fruit. (Plans helped to not over work ,blend,uses the planes with cruves for brush work. One of the biggest problem is overworked with blending. 2nd is blocking in with values to translations w/o blending or a brush stroke to marry that local croma 2 he shadow, and highcroma but not a highlight where it's the lights light at the transition to the Highlight???Anytips or advice for this enthusiastic 3rd/yr novice... pa appreciate all u to for the community..🤙
I love wash colour according to the dominant colour of my subject. If sub is dominantly cool, I use brown underpainting. If it is warm , I love grey underpainting. I hv partiallity for grey undertone though.😅

The problem with the contemporary abstract art scene is that their work is awful at communicating but they want to blame the viewer for not getting the message.
Beat nits tossed hands full of paint at a canvas , and called it an action painting. Beat nits were a rebellion against art , one took a bucket of tar , slapped some on a canvas , then stuck the tar brush to it. To my understanding this is the death of art , the question is , where do we go from here ?
