If possible, could you leave either route numbers and/or (some) towns along certain routes that you took, and the start/finish towns. Many parts if your route look like parts of the Canadian Shield, the 'Cote Nord' route along the Gulf of St. Lawrence and parts of Newfoundland also. A very interesting video - thanks for sharing...

My first fought on that last battle was that it probably started due to an argument over the 'parking fees' for the boats and being forced to use the 'patk and ride' 😉

A couple of corrections: - there 3 mobile operators not 2 - you can top up any prepaid sim card online. All three have English versions of their website and you can pay by card. - you can also top up at the mobile operators' shop directly - many people speak English. Moroccans are some of the people most versed in languages. Most people speak 2 to 4 languages and are extremely helpful

@@RidetheBean Might head up to Scotland next year. So not much intermarrying in your family😂 P.s mine could be interesting or find out as am "English" as they come. Well the term English is a bit of a misnoma due to several tribes intermarrying (plus we have the remnants of the Roman occupation so serving soldiers married local women etc and then of course rise of trade etc)

There's a lot of reasoning behind the alcohol ban: People with mental problems wasting their lives in droves. It was always a problem in the lower classes, as people struggled to survive and didn't experience much more than their small farms for their entire lives. The teatre piece Jeppe På Bjerget captures this rather nicely if you want to look into it. But then these people moved to the cities to be factory workers, the boredom of working long shifts in a factory six days a week got even worse and many of them couldn't use their increased wealth on anything more than alcohol. Wages were paid out weekly and the wives commonly met up to take over the money so that it could be used to help the family have food instead of binge drinking. So a movement rose up to ban alcohol altogether. That proved not to work very well as destillerys and binge drinking just moved under the earth so they struck a compromise.
@RidetheBean
@RidetheBean 19 дней назад
Hehe yeah I get the need for more regulation. That is why the church started with the church coffee as well. To get people onto coffee and off alcohol. But there law should allow for individuals to make the decisions they want to make in their own lives. If someone wants to waste all their money on alcohol, that should be their prerogative, not the states. If they need help there should be ways to help, but without controlling the decisions people make for themselves in their private lives.
@haraldthi
@haraldthi 18 дней назад
@@RidetheBean The liberalist view, sure. I'm just not convinced we as humans really are rational enough for it. It's more that we are a kind of animals driven by instincts, but where we use our conscience to regulate those instincts so that we're better able to fill our instinctual needs. As that has consequences, and where we don't just live in a much more complicated world than we are able to comprehend, we use our creativity in a competetive game we always need to stay on top of and that makes things even more complicated, we use our traditions to train and refine that conscience beyond what we are able to think for ourselves. Law is a part of that, to help us avoid doing things that are too expensive for us. Both individually and as a society. They can get overreaching, as especiallya a maternal instinct can try to stop us from doing slightly destructive but educational expreriments, so rebellion can be healthy from time to time. But please understand that limitations can also be a security blanket when you merely *think* you are doing a smart thing.
@RidetheBean
@RidetheBean 18 дней назад
@haraldthi hehe yeah sure… I’m not saying all laws are crazy. But Norway in particular has some laws that are good in principle but completely overreaches and takes things waaaay too far. Like the alcohol law. Why does it need to be so damn specific? I can drink beer at 8, but have to wait until 4 to have a whisky. And I can’t have a beer on a Sunday before 12, but after is fine. It’s all just completely arbitrary. I think things should be somewhere between America and Norway. As long as you don’t bother other people you should be able to do whatever it is that you want.
@haraldthi
@haraldthi 18 дней назад
@@RidetheBean Yeah, it's just that the strongest alcoholic beverage I'm actually interested in is kefir, so it's not something I read up on. I've seen your blog and I grew up much like you, it's just that I waded through most of those difficult questions instead of traveling and I really like to be able to run my brain on high gear instead of having a party. But as I see things in general: When people find a value they can agree on they start competing over *who* is the best at following those values and that means they turn them into rules, then more rules on top of that and then even more rules just to make sure. On the surface they want to look like civilized leaders of order and a prosperous life but beneath that there's just another game. The prize? Who gets to bring up the most children towards the nest generation, as always when it comes to life on earth. It's the driving force between religions, often sane attempts at handling this world we in at the bottom but regularly turning itself into absurdities over the generations, due to the inherent game play of "who is the first of foremost". But that doesn't mean you can rid yourself of religion and think all that madness is over, as you just end up with another form of madness that doesn't even have any of that old battle-hardened wisdom beneath it. We can't live without values, and they *will* be abused in our ever evolving game of life. That being so, I agree we have ended up into our necks in rules. And while the stated goal is to create a "just" society it's only "just" for those who can afford to pay a good enough lawyer. Rules *have* to be strict in order to work at all, as they will otherwise be tested, stretched and bent out of shape. But that, to me, means you can only use a minimal amount of them to keep the worst human failures at bay. You can't use them to create a perfect society. So perhaps at least have the same rule for *all* alcoholic beverages? That isn't how humanity works, however.
@RidetheBean
@RidetheBean 18 дней назад
@haraldthi yeah I mostly agree with you. I just don’t like the hypocrisy. Beer and tobacco that kills thousands every year are totally fine, but weed who has never killed a single person in 10000 years is illegal. If it’s legal, then make it make sense based on the updated scientific research. Do t just make up completely arbitrary rules. I don’t mind following rules as long as they make sense in some way, but so many rules make absolutely no logical sense. And I just think that as long as you don’t bother other people or damage things, then you should be able to do whatever you want. And rules are good and important to keep things safe and in check. But when they are there just to annoy people or are completely random then people will also just ignore them and respect other rules less.
