I watched this again, truely a great video and informative! I like how you said you learned from your "Dads" . Well, thanks but lyle taught me more about trout than i ever taught him lol. However, Wayne definitely is a role model for brook trout success 🙌
Man Ive been skunked in the park all year. Just went out again this past weekend with no luck. Using Spinners, spoons, and flicker minnow. I recently saw that we can use worms to catch trout in the park. Do you think that would be a better strategy to catch them? Also Ive only been going to lakes that are marked with BT and LT on the algonquin map and jeffs map. Do the lakes that are not marked BTLT could possibly have BT and LT? I am planning to hit the rivers during ice out this spring to get some more luck. But am thinking of going to very hard to reach lakes / dead-end lakes to hopefully get some trout. Any help would be appreciated!
@@loftymcdowell5789 I believe they average about a million a year, but 95% don’t fish, and of the 5% that do, probably 1/5 of that would be backcountry and the rest would be along highway 60. That would be my best guess at it.
@@TheAverageJoesFishingShow Got to be as careful as possible with those big males . Single hooks and rigs that don't readily allow swallowing of the lure . If done cut the hook with side cutters.
This is the reality of probably half of our exploration trips! We normally don’t show it but it’s good memories either way and a motivator to get them next time!
He was correct, red sky at night, shepperds delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning! Hahahah. Beautiful trip guys, epic ! Love your show, recommend to all. I appreciate all your efforts
Haha I know, I was just busting Noah’s balls 😂 I appreciate that Anthony, share it around on Facebook if you have it or any other social media’s, the more support and shares, the more it gets seen and helps us! We really are thankful for the support and kind words!
Hi guys... Grampa Don says to let you know he enjoyed the video 100%. It showed everything the trip in, the scenery, lure type, Camp site, fire, everything. Keep up the good work
Whats the fish finder you guys were using? You guys truly have gotten Algonquin trout fishing down pat. Ive only manage to get lake trout on cleos lol. Need to get up there more.
I run a Humminbird Helix 5, with a Dakota Lithium 10ah. Light enough to travel with. It’s taken a lot of practice and I’m definitely still learning every time I go out about the dos and don’ts. It’s always important to try to learn something each time! You’ll get the hang of it better with every trip!
Old trick I used for decades.Bring a whistle and when you see a rabbit it will stop at the whistles noise for a second. The whistles are usually found in your boating safety kits.
That’s cool. Nice you can get them on only a day portage that shallow in the park, thought you had to go deeper in. Lots of great stocked lakes around the park too with awesome specs and they put them in small and they grow up to be basically wild fish, look and taste great.
This was still decently far in, I’ve just gotten very good at covering a lot of ground very quickly! Further than most people would travel for a one night trip. There are definitely lots of great stocker lakes, I’ve just always enjoyed the natural fish aspect more because it’s a rarity.
Some nice fish guys but it hurts to see those big fish be taken . My rig doesn't seem to get many deep hook sets . But with the odd one i bring mini side cutters and just cut the hook. Don't bring a net either but reach over the side of the canoe with forceps and let them shake off .So they are not even touched . Don't have much reason to take pictures . A tip for Noah . Bring clothes other than cotton like jeans and shirt . Work pants are 60/40 and dry much quicker .Might also want to wear the life jackets while fishing and shooting video. Just a good example for the general canoeing public. Noticed the other fishermen on the lake not wearing life jackets either. Are you all Alex Baumann's or what ?
It’s always worth it when the big ones cooperate! I’ve had plenty of trips further with much less success. Takes a little luck and a lot of determination!
I ate creek chub when I was probably about 10 years old. Coincidentally, I was doing an overnight camping survival challenge with my father and younger brothers in our woods behind our house and the nearby trout stream (with native brookies and also stocked ones, and stocked brown and rainbow trout). None of us caught trout but ended up keeping creek chub to eat and maybe because we'd only had a couple granola bars as our emergency back-up food, the creek chub dinner was just fine. As I recall, we didnt have any Tang, but our water source for our home was a spring behind our house, and we made black (sweet) birch tea. I'd have no problem eating creek chub from a clean trout stream, as they eat pretty much the same food as trout do.
Great question! With cellphone capabilities nowadays that’s all we use. We generally will preload maps for the area we are fishing and go off those. I have a subscription to OnX Hunt and use that as my GPS and will also track my routes and such, Lyle I believe uses the Algonquin BRMB app on his phone. No need for anything extra when we’re already bringing the phones and they work perfect for it!
@@TheAverageJoesFishingShow thanks for the reply, great info! When downloading for that area do you download Jeff’s map for Algonquin ? Really enjoy ur guys videos my paddle group all watch you guys. You should do some fall back country walleye !
@@TheAverageJoesFishingShow Naturals from Algonquin. My biggest was 6 lbs 2 oz but a stocked female caught NE of North Bay. Had it mounted and the guy painted it like a male. Did a nice job though .
Sometimes it feels like you're the fisherman, other times it feels like you're being catfished by the speckles. But that's the feeling that keeps us wanting to bushwhack like you did here! At least you got a consolation at the end for your efforts. Good luck for the rest of September and for goodness sakes pack out your wacky worms!!!
