Hi Tris, ChatGPT suggested you when I asked for channels that do reviews of unknown metal artists (unsigned). Do you take suggestions? I'm nearly homeless, but I can pay you if you need to charge of course. This is my only hope at spreading the word, and there has never been anyone who didn't like my music (even people who don't like heavy/noisy music). I hope you get this message and we can work something out. Thank you. 🙏
just saw these guys live and they're absolutely mindblowing. just a monolithic, crushing wall of sound and they replicate it perfectly live. if they play in your town they're a must see.
You know what, that really means a lot because I am always toying with the idea of should I keep them short, change them to being longer? At the end of the day it’s just a quick thing isn’t it. I like to make it the length of how long it might be to have a cigarette or something like that. So thanks for letting me know! And glad that you enjoyed the video too :)
Great album. Got me excited about DM again. Listening to Death Metal since highschool in the early 90s, it got pretty stale over the years but this band is great!!
Very much enjoyed reviewing this one myself. Totally with comments about the songwriting and the different atmospheric elements. A very consistent album.
I genuinely enjoyed Manual, Manic, Procedures upon first listen. Hands of Eternity was a great single, and had m excited to give this album my full attention. It may not be my favourite album of the year, but it was a really fun listen, and I can only imagine how incredible their live shows must be!
There's definitely an otherworldly feeling I get with this one for sure, I think there's something truly special about this band and I really hope that we get to see them play live at some point - I've never seen them and this material would go down a storm!
It’s so funny how he says he doesn’t even know what time signature they’re playing in. I saw them Sunday and couldn’t figure it out lol. I was trying to nod my head along but there was an extra beat that kept throwing me off
Yes! I totally get that, you're almost locked in with the groove and then something else just comes in at the last minute to throw you off, it's a tricky one isn't it haha! Thanks for checking out the interview and I hope you enjoyed it!
Nice review mate. I’ll definitely be checking this one out but when I can give it the time it so clearly needs - it sounds like quite a commitment is needed to get the best from it.
Thanks ever so much mate! Glad that you enjoyed it, let me know what you think of the record when you get a chance to give it a listen through as well. Cheers mate!
Thanks ever so much! That is very kind of you to say!! I'm glad that you enjoyed the video and what do you think of the record? It's going to be my go-to for relaxing moments for sure!
@@TheMetalTris Actually as you stated in the video, it might have taken a lot of time for the masterer in terms of editing each instrument to be heard in a clean way; therefore, I'm really into this album. Thanks for your feedback again.
Dude thanks for doing this review. Easily my best blackgaze band. Great work on describing the album and explaining the blends of genres mixed within it. I did an album review on this album as well on my channel, not as professional as you but it was fun. Thanks for the inspiration and cheers!
Thanks so much for all of the kind words! I'm sure that yours is just as great my friend! I'll have to check it out for sure - what other sort of things are you a fan of so far this year?
Couldn't agree more! I think that they're getting bigger and bigger with each release and I really do think that we're only beginning to see the greatness in this band for sure. Thanks for checking out the video!
Ahh man I hate that kind of thing. Though when the band next come round I always feel like you end up loving them even more than before you know? It's my go-to chill album of the year, perfect for a chill dude on his couch haha!
I am genuinely interested to jump back into Alcest, and relax after working at a job I refer to as misery. I can distinctly remember throwing on Les voyages de l'âme in 2012 while studying for University exams, and it helped put me in a peaceful and relaxed state of mind. Tris, I know you're a Lamb of God fan, so I would strongly recommend checking out the album Versus Entropy by Derelict. It takes the groove-oriented riffs of LOG and combines them with elements of technical death metal, and the vocals have that classic Randy Blythe vibe to them as well.
Ahh man I have been there with the job of misery. It'll get better dude I promise! Oh excellent I've never heard of Derelict and will definitely give it a spin when I next can, I'll check them out asap. Hope you're having a great weekend mate!
@@TheMetalTris I appreciate the words of encouragement. Music gets me through at least LOL. I hope you enjoy Derelict when you get a chance to hear them.
I loved this new Alcest album. Alcest prove again that they are the masters of blackgaze. I think that this album is their best since Les Voyages d'Lame back in 2012.
I've seen a couple of people comparing this to Les Voyages de Lame recently. I'll have to go back and check that one out - I think it's the one with the bird on the cover is that right? Sort of swan looking thing? Thanks for checking out the video!
took me long time to really get into them but during covid I listened to their EP " a tear in the fabric of life" and everything's changed, incredible band.
Couldn't agree more! It took me even LONGER to get them. I tried with Fabric of life but it wasn't until I heard Upon Loss that I really got into them and now there's no looking back haha! Thanks for checking out the review!
Trevor is Trevor but they destroyed the song it was amazing Trevor was a great guy always remember the guy that goes above and beyond for ppl to smile are the one suffering the most
Exactly, I think that the band did whatever they could to carry on and did so by honouring Trevor in the best way possible. I couldn't imagine any other situation other than Brian being on vocals. It's perfect.
Boring, technical for the sake of being technical, lacks emotion, lacks originality, songs run together. This is to death metal what Green Day was to hardcore... but without any memorable moments. They basically appropriated death metal vocals and put it over poser dogshit. Fuck this album and everyone who likes it. You are ruining metal.
THE MAN, THAT MONSTER SHOULD I SAY, IS THE BIGGEST VOCALIST IN METAL RIGHT NOW. AND HE SAID MY FAVORITE BAND (BFMV) IS THE STUFF HE LISTEN TO BACK THEN. WHAT A GUY! PAIN REMAINS IS ONE HELL OF AN ALBUM! SUCH A BLAST!
necrot are one of the best to ever do it. Sick how he talks about the different time signatures in their music because they play weird timings and still make it sound like it's 4/4 somehow. necrot rules
I couldn't agree more, there's really something interesting about the way that they perform isn't there. I think that they're really interesting in how they navigate tricky timings yet make them very immediate and memorable - it really is a skill to write material as catchy as they do in Metal, especially! Thanks for checking out the video!
Hahaha that's very kind of you! Thanks for checking out the video and I deffo got the word confused - I thought that it was similar to rage but it's actually all about the countryside. Curse you Corey Taylor!
It defo sounds like it should mean something else, something vile or spiteful. Would love to hear Vitriol actually do a bucolic album though. They could take my money, instant preorder. Personally, I’d go 7.5-8. And I think ‘Shame and Its Aftrrbirth’ might be my song of the year. But I think the things that would bump up the score for me are things that aren’t necessarily very… Virtriolic - like increased integration of the more melodic/atmospheric elements and a few more bars/repetitions of riffs that you can really lock into, like you mentioned. Those things naturally take away from the unrelenting viciousness that is the very essence of Vitriol. Decent review though, man. Kudos on not making it unwatchably long-winded, too.
For some reason this one didn't quite connect as SIDABS for me but I think it's because that was my first exposure to Ulcerate. If this had been their first record I had heard, it would be my favorite. So, it's a weird compliment, but I like this less because SIDABS was such a masterpiece for me that this album being its "1B" is high praise in a way.
I know what you mean here. I think the thing is that I am always searching for bands to really up the ante on the next record and I know that this does take time but it's the risk that I think is worth the reward. That being said though, this is a great continuation of the exploring of the world that was brought to is with SIDABS Thanks for checking out the video and I hope you enjoyed it!
Oh wow! I am sure that will be very special, where is it that you're seeing them? It's a great record for sure, I still need to get my copy on vinyl actually as it happens haha! So many records, so little time!
Well said! It's a great record and one that I think I will definitely be exploring more and more as the year goes on you know? thanks for checking out the video!
This was my first introduction to your channel and it was a beauty. Very nice descriptions and transitions, well done. Also, this album is in my top 3 for the year, I can say that much. A ripper and a shredder. And yes, i hit the "subscribe" button. All the best from sunny upstate NY.
Hey there and welcome!! Thanks so much for checking the channel out, sorry that it's taken a little bit for me to get back to you, I was at Download Festival this weekend and it was tricky to keep up with everything haha! That being said, it's really awesome that you checked out the video and I appreciate it massively. Top 3 in the year! That's awesome, I am sure that there are a lot of people that are thinking the same, I think that we'll be seeing this one on a lot of end of year lists for sure. What are the other two that are holding the top spot for you? I would love to know! I try and get back to every comment that I can but sometimes it just takes time, but I'll do my best! Thanks again my friend
Stench of redemption is one of my favourite Deicide records! Very different to the earlier material but then I like having two distinct eras and the difference that brings with it you know?
No way! Oh man... I think the worst thing I can compare that too was when I had ordered Through Silver in Blood by Neurosis. It was a white whale of mine on Discogs - finally found out, got the record and turned out that the person had sold Eye of The Storm instead! Luckily he did have a copy of TSIB so all's well that ends well haha Thanks for checking the video out though and I hope I did it justice!
Hahaha I know right? It's a very, don't fuck with me kind of album title I think. Thanks so much dude, I was at Download this weekend but will catch up on your vids asap bud
Ulcerate has been one of those bands that I've had a hard time getting into. The music almost sounds like noise, with the exceptions of Shrines of Paralysis. Hearing it described as "their most mature" album gives me reason to give it a listen. For me today belongs to Malignancy and their album Discontinued.
Oh awesome dude! Thanks for checking the video out and also let me know what you think when you do dive in, I think that you might like it. It's quite adventurous in its sound and if you've not quite clicked with them just yet then this might be the record to do it with!
Well, awesome review, Tris. Ulcerate has created staggering piece of art for single 30 year old men, the tempo diabolical, the sequences incredible. With his guitar's tone resonates with a visceral veil, Mike Haggard tears a page out of history in one fell swoop
Hell yeah! That's what we like to hear, I'm so glad that you're a fan of the record. It's just such a distinct sound in the world of Death Metal, where, let's be honest, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd right?! Thanks for the kind words though mate, hugely appreciated!!
I definitely think that they're a very much overlooked band and when it comes to dissonant style Death Metal, they do it incredibly well it does have to be said! Thanks for checking out the video and the support!
Hey there my friend! It's my pleasure, I'll be honest, there are times when I think - I really don't want to sit down and film something but when I get messages like this - it makes it all worthwhile so it's very kind of you to say that. What else have you been enjoying recently?
@@TheMetalTris yeah it’s cools that you bring a different vibe to your content and the passion for heavy music. Yeah I have my own music channel and recently I’ve been listening to new albums from bands like Saidan, Horn, Thou, Diiv, and Mono. Check them out! Cheers dude!
Oh hell yeah! They really need to make it over to the UK at some point - they would be perfect for a festival the likes of Bloodstock or say Damnation I think. Such a great band and Luca was a total delight to interview as well. Thanks for checking out the interview!
Sounds like a well balanced album. This weekend I focused on album anniversary from shocker 90’s albums lol. But I will review a prog band from Belgium for Monday. Great review.
