If you could be born any year, what would it be? Share this video with a friend: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g6pHs_dRTbY.html (I will try to make some improvements if I do a video like this again.)
@@dianagarcia0 Anecdotally it seems like a lot of people who were able to experience the time period enjoyed the 80s so it has made me curious as well! (Although that is not everyone of course.)
Xennial here glad I was able to experience the awesome arcade fighting scene of the late 80's to the mid 90's the Beat 'em up's like Final Fight, The Simpsons, TMNT ect.. also you had the birth of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. I miss going to the arcade and playing Mortal Kombat 2 there was never a game that had me so hyped to play.
I’m not in the Xennial years range but feel more of a xennial most days and a totally X other times. Sometimes I don’t feel I relate with older Gen Xs though they’re only 3 to 6 years older. I think I’m going with just Xen! Or Gen Xen. 👍🏻
I just tried to leave a comment and it got posted as a reply to someone elses comment. Shit is glitchy and nevermind " checking " if you are recording... you cant do anything quickly because of all the problems across all software.
I thought Xennials were defined as Xenia Warrior Princess fan boys and female Xenia Cosplayers. I've been enjoying a few videos on this channel and I was almost certain the host was A Xenial because of the haircut. But maybe she's more Generation Amelie/Ramones drummer. And even though the point of my comment is purely to promote the causes of Sillyness and Nonsense, I would point out that Xenia Warrior Princess played by Lucy Lawless would actually be a Xennial because her was show was on on the 90$. But also technically Xenia was from centuries ago. But maybe Xenia had a time Machine. Interesting videos. 👏 Love the channel. I wondered if you had any thoughts on the movie Logan's Run?
A Xenial is a Millennial that is soooooo embarrassed by other Millennials that they desperately want to be in the cool club of GenX! Also, late GenXers who aren’t up to the mark like us early GenXers. We are the best and you know it and you’ll never truly be one of us.
2:10 was born at the end of the 70s', but grew up in the 80s... "My so-Called Life" was filmed at the high school that I attended along with my mother, my father all of my uncles and my sister. I actually worked on the set because I was in drama club.
@@TheGenerations1 No, was definitely VERY HOLYWOOD. Most of my work was on the Continuity side, and we were not allowed to speak, or approach Ms. Danes, or Mr. Leto. One member said we could utilze the Craft Services... But another person complained. It was very wierd.
Zillennial is not too young for emo. I Hated asking alexandria and pierce the veil. I was into bands more like senses fail, hawthorne heights, and silverstein. So yes I was EMO.
And yet they were successful in holding jobs and raising family's, which at the end of the day is all that matters. Their values were distinct but not without merit given the times. They raised GenX children which are arguably one of the most jaded and self sufficient generations in history. There lives were comfy but they raised children they knew might face a nuclear holocaust.
I was born in the analogue age, before metrication, before calculators, digital watches or anything. My job did not get computerised until 1986, pre-Windows by a few years. Born in the late 1950s, I grew up in the early to mid-1970s, more 1960s than later 70s-early 80s.
in social science research, 10 years is a considered a cohort. the age spans of the current "brackets" are simply too long. i'm 59 & did participate in tuck and cover. but i had teenaged sisters who were very much hippies in the early 70's CA, so i do feel like a flower child! beyond that, im not a boomer!
They vary but that is a criticism and why I tried to explain some of that nuance. And that personal context plays a role with things too (California, your sisters). You are Gen X!
I can definitely relate, I was born in 1996 and I find myself relating to both generations. But at the same time, I was too young to understand the impact of the 2008 crash and too old to care about tik tok. My siblings( born 98-01) feel the same as well.
This isnt even a thing. Gen Z and younger also do that pause. This isn't about the camera, is about giving the other person a chance to acknowledge their faces before start speaking.
I'm glad you enjoyed it - thanks for taking part :) I'll have to get to that sometime 😜 lol! (Links for those who see and are curious: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YJ4SOV5rK3Q.html & ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i_tfj0ihGvM.html)
Notes: I don’t mean the first Olympics as in the Olympics back in Ancient Greece, but the 1898 Olympics and also it’s obviously been a trend upwards in abilities. There were advanced things done in the past that ended up being banned due to being too dangerous which I forgot to mention. Obviously this is an overview of these topics and a bigger video would have included more (I realized I didn’t even talk about what I meant by the Radium girls!) - links to some related content in the description. I also didn’t really talk about my generational approach on some of them. But at least another video! I needed to get one up :) Anyway, feel free to provide feedback! At the moment I plan do an Xer video or something closely related next.
Guys...come on. The 80s were diverse in a way that no other decade has been. Don't make me whip out Anthony Micheal Hall's Breakfast Club speech. Never-Ending Story. Flight of the Navigator. Back to the Future. ET. Blade Runner. STARMAN. Weird Science. Short Circuit. LEGEND. Labyrinth. The Last Unicorn. Splash. Mannequin. The Lost Boys. Last Starfighter. War Games. GOONIES. Big. Raising Arizona. Scarface. Police Academy (FREEZE, DIRTBAG!) Coming to America. Dirty Dancing. National Lampoon's Vacation. RISKY BUSINESS. Adventures in Babysitting. Miracle Beach (cheesy B-movie about a bikini genie). Summer School. Just One of the Guys. Can't Buy Me Love. Loverboy. License to Drive. Dream a Little Dream. Good Morning, Vietnam. The Legend of Billie Jean (Fair is FAIR!) The Princess Bride. SPACE BALLS. Indiana Jones. For Keeps. John Hughes: ALL.
I am 2002, I rarily watched TV, as we were playing outside with the elder kids from the neighborhood. On German TV, I watched Amercan Dragon, One Piece, Pretty Cure, WinX Club, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Missy Milly, Angela Anaconda, Mein Leben und Ich (My Life & Me), Hannah Montana, High School Musical, The Cheetah Girls, Camp Rock.
I was born in the end of 1995 and I definitely feel like "in between". Baby years being in the 90's, proper childhood in the 2000's and having my teenage years in the 2010's. Early adulthood in the end of the 2010's and in the beginning of 2020. I still feel like a 24 year old bc time lost its meaning in the corona years. Turning 29yo this year and I still can't believe where the time went. but yeah... My two big brothers that were born in the 80's definitely don't count me in to their millennial group bc we definitely had very different upbringings.. Like....I think a true millennial experience is to be a pre schooler or older in the 90's recession and remembering how it affected your life back then. I hear older millennials talking about it, in which I can't relate to. Buuuut at the same time the younger Gen Z'ers think I'm a true millennial bc I was born before the 2000's. XD I have many younger millennial and older Gen Z friends... and we all have more in common than older millennials or younger Gen Z'ers. that's for sure. We all share the same "are we millennial or Gen Z??" -feeling. Also the " you're a millenial if you remember the 9/11" argument doesn't count imo bc what happened in USA wasn't that significant to a 5-6 year old Finnish kid XDD. I simply can't remember where I was back then. Not in a school to learn about it that's for sure. (OFC I studied the happening afterwards when I got older).
Yes it is like neither group feels you fit in fully so you feel that way too! And yes, 9/11 wouldn't necessarily be relevant in most countries. I'd be curious to see who else feels it would be and also ages.
Born in 1957 so I guess I'm a trailing boomer. One question for anyone here, when I was young I was under the impression the boomers ended at 1960. Looking at some of the comments here that would make sense. While my classes never did duck and cover we knew about it - maybe because I lived in Canada? Another thing I've thought about recently is I believe the "Baby Boomer" was the first generation to have their timeline in history actually named. Only in the last few years have I found out all the other generational names - the Greatest, the Silent etc. So we win again! Thanks for this channel, it was time well spent - better than scrolling through TikTok! lol
Yes 57 is quite on the edge regarding which group you fall into. And that is true, this was information that was shared at one point, and even some still interpret it this way today from a cultural standpoint (the generation ending in 60) but 64 is considered the official demographic end in the U.S. and is widely accepted. There could be some slight differences with Canada. Glad you like the video :)
Also 1957 here. I never really considered myself to be a baby boomer because I had nothing in common with what’s considered to be the baby boomer. Example, when they were protesting the Vietnam war I was 10 and more concerned about my Little League team, when President Kennedy was assassinated, I was six and had really no idea what was going on. I always heard that 57 was the peak of the baby boom but I never considered myself part of that generation.
1981 Xennial here. Had a basic PC junior growing up. Played Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandeigo as well as many other educational (especially math) games in school. My dad would pick up these random games at computer shows. We had "Face Maker," "Space Invaders," "Mother Goose," and "Titanic." Learned to type on a computer in 3rd grade, manipulate paint and play solitaire and landmine in middle school, as well as send emails. I also got on sketchy chat rooms in middle school that were not monitored (get the feeling there were many adults on there, too, but nothing bad happened to me). I remember how exciting the internet was when it was taking off in high school, mainly because I wanted to look up any info on the yahoo search engine (any infoat my fingertips!), but much of what I researched didn't get many hits as there wasn't as much on it at the time. I had a Gateway laptop in college with an hour battery life, used computer labs for most work and internet cafés when I traveled to France as an exchange student. Got my first flip phone in college and joined My Space and Friendster (anyone?) before joining Facebook in college (it was only for college students at the time). Exciting times to live through. There were so many changes so fast. But there still are. :)
