Michelle, thank you for the tip about how to grow zone 7 plants in zone 8 = SUPER helpful! Do you ever pot your quart sized plants up, or do you always just put them straight into the ground?

Question, My basil bolted while I was on vacation. Can I chop the flowering top off, and keep growing to eat?

I grow the sunglasses. I don't eat tomato's myself. Bity wife loves these and requested I make it a permanent member in the garden from now on. She said it's the best one she's ever had.

This is my first year dealing with them up front - they tend to stay away from azaleas and loropetalum too- if you garden in a zone where those grow

Clearly I’m not a planner… we all have areas where we can improve; so… yeah, that’s mine. I’m great at planning for today… not so awesome about planning for tomorrow… especially when it comes to evergreen winter interest. Luckily there are a few really great reliable shrubs that require basically no maintenance. Here are two of my favorites: @pwcolorchoice Tater Tot Arborvitae: zones 3-8, partial/full sun, mature height: 3’ @pwcolorchoice Anna’s Magic Ball Arborvitae: zones 3-7, partial/full sun, mature height 15’ I ordered both from @greatgardenplants recently as they are both strong growers and will be at mature height in no time, so why not save a few dollars and buy a smaller size? For more information and tips on care, and how I’m growing a zone 7 plant in zone 8A (Atlanta) check out my latest RU-vid video for all the details. #provenwinners #gardening #zone8a #southerngarden #atlanta #gardendesign #gardeninspiration

Gardening can be expensive… just like everything else these days, but there are great ways to garden on a budget. Here are my top 3 tips: 1) starting from seed - both annuals and perennials can be started from seed and many will bloom the first year for you. The easiest summer blooming annuals to start from seed are Zinnia and Celosia- if you’re a first timer and just want to something easy to start out and gain confidence, the queen series of zinnias is my go to - and you don’t need to start them indoors. Both Zinnias and Celosia can be scattered outside and watered in. For perennials, many coneflowers will only flower for you after the second year, but Paradiso super duper flowers in year one - as does the Dalmatian series of foxglove. 2) plant swaps: look for these local events in spring - it’s a great way to divide and share the plants you have growing with others. Often times what people are bringing to plant swaps are perennials that spread well once established - so you can expect these to spread and fill in your garden as well 3) Facebook groups - I swear so many things in my garden come from Facebook - many of my first hostas, lambs ear, ferns, and even my rock border! Don’t be shy about asking - gardeners tend to be the best people (biased), obviously) and love sharing their garden 🪴 What’s a way that you’ve saved money in your garden? I suspect pruning allows opportunities for infection and diverts energy to healing the wounds. Ive been letting the tomatoes grow rampant for a couple years, but never did a control experiment weighing the difference between methods.

I was going to post this earlier - but I had to wait until after I placed my order for basil seeds for next year since this basil variety is often sold out 🤣- BUT it’s back in stock @pinetree_garden_seeds and the very best, so I’ll quit gatekeeping. (Code ‘chickens15’ will get you 15% off your order). I haven’t tried the rest of the everleaf series - but emerald towers doesn’t even look like it’s close to bolting (going to flower) and I’ve neglected it severely this season. It’s such a winning basil - so if you’ve had issues growing basil before and been disappointed - this one won’t let you down! Videos from my visit to @ballseedcompany trial gardens - I’m not ask artistic or creative with my herb planting 🤣 #kitchengarden #herbgarden #containergarden #urbangarden #veggiegarden #basil #atlanta #southerngarden #zone8a

The volunteers that you don’t take care of always seem to do better than the ones you plant and tend to. That’s why I leave everything I plant alone for the most part and let it do its thing. Unless it shows signs of needing intervention, I just let them work their magic and bless me with goodness.

Why is it… that the tomato plants my chickens accidentally pooped out… are healthier than the plants I’ve been babying, watering, and fertilizing all season?!?! I’m pulling a line from my children and screaming a giant “THAT’S NOT FAIR.” How’s your garden growing? 🤷🏻‍♀️🫣 #tomatogarden #veggiegarden #backyardgarden #snackgarden #kitchengarden #atlanta #georgiagardener #zone8a
