I think they’re all lovely, in their own unique way! I’m not a rose fan at all, but definitely love watching other people grow them, yours are beautiful🌟

I'm always so amazed when I see roses full of bushy foliage because that has never been my experience with roses in the south. They just don't like the humidity I guess. I find it helps to keep the canes underneath very open and breathable in hopes they can dry out quicker in our southern thunderstorms.

It amazes me too! I like going to visit the Atlanta botanical gardens in the summer and see their roses struggle with Black spot - it makes me feel better 🤣🤣🤣

Great video! Keepin' it real here in the South! Haha! Definitely relate on the David Austin roses. I don't have the deer issue, but I have not done the maintenance this year. Maybe next year??? Hope springs eternal... By the way, I love how you have other flowers planted in front of the At Last roses. Beside the obvious beauty, it seems like a great way to hide petal drop from all the many rose blooms! As always, thanks for all you share!

Thank you Michelle! I love roses too but yes growing them is another story! Now I can see how they really look in our area from top to bottom, not just the gorgeous blooms! You are not a bad rose mom! I dont think we should have to spray for roses to thrive. In my last garden (on the west coast) I found that letting nature toughen up the plants is the best way to have strong, disease and pest resistant roses. Yes it takes time (years) and lots of damage and frustration but I have found that any spraying even just the oils affects the beneficials and I dont want that. If a rose is that disease prone then I don't want to grow it! The Kordes roses have been disease resistant for me but they seem to want to grow twice as tall here as the growing info lists. I tried a PW reminiscent rose that was supposed to be "disease resistant" and that rose was a black spot mess. The deer repellent sprays work well, I just spray the tips (the new growth), that seems to be the only part they like to eat and have had good luck with that, you have to be consistent though!

I’m going to try deer spray next season - thank you for sharing your experience

Thanks for the update and especially for the insight into David Austins in Atlanta. I’m also in the Atlanta area, and the rose struggle is real! I second everything you said about PW ‘At Last.’ It’s a great continual bloomer with minimal black spot. Another beautiful, fragrant rose I added this year (can’t vouch for its performance long-term) is Bloomables ‘Sweet Romance.’ It’s similar to ‘At Last’ in that individual flowers are short lived, but it produces a lot and boy are they pretty and smell so good! I’m growing mine in a container and plan to train it into a standard. It is doing great so far - no black spot and has bloomed and bloomed with no real maintenance. (I’m a bad rose mom, too!)

Now I’m going to have to keep my eye out for sweet romance! I just bought “sweet mademoiselle” because others in Atlanta had great luck with it! Ahhh… I’m going to run out of room 🤣

@@everydaygardeningtips I meant ‘Sweet Mademoiselle.’ I have no idea why I said ‘Sweet Romance.’ My brain! lol You’ll love SM!

My first was a knockout rose from the clearance section at Lowes. It was the first plant we bought when we moved into our house. I always had mine in shadyish spots because I was scared they would get burned out but now I'm thinking I'm gonna give the next ones I plant more sun. I went to the Chelsea flower show this past spring and was obsessed with the David Austin display but I'm gonna check out that k brand you mentioned.

The CHELSEA flower show?!? Amazing! I’m totally jealous!! The K brand, Kordes - is sometimes harder to identify - I like to go on heirloomroses.com - filter by “Kordes” - and then keep a list in my back pocket of the variety names - sometimes you can find them at big box stores/cheaper elsewhere

Kordes is my go-to. I gave up on David Austin Roses. They just don't well in our area (Georgia 8a). Summer Romance is my absolute favorite.

My first rose has been an earth’s Angel rose. Got it from heirloom roses. It’s a shockingly good rose for someone who potted it up in a large ceramic pot/south facing location and never watered! But I finally gave in and got a knockout rose when the PW at last rose let me down :( zone7a/b Virginia garden here

It’s so interesting how some roses shine in some areas - and do awful in other areas. I’ve bought so many roses because I’ve seen them perform beautifully in someone else’s garden - it’s so frustrating!

The deer ate all my roses, then they took sizeable chucks of my baby magnolia tree 😵😪😵‍💫 I'm not sure if I'll dare to plant more, so I will enjoy yours lol

You know how I feel about roses. I have many David Austin and Kordes as they both do well for me. I’m just a bit cooler than you. I have many of the roses that you have. Looking to add Sophie and Plum Perfect

My first and only rose (so far) is a mystery. It was on my property but hidden in the ivy behind some huge overgrown shrubs. When I discovered it, it had one skinny little stem and one teeny red rose. I moved it out to more sun but it struggles tremendously with blackspot. Do you have a treatment regimen you recommend that doesn't hurt bees or other beneficial insects? I've been hesitant to buy any more because I have a number of neighbors who have lost well-established plants to rose rosette disease. I don't really want to set myself up for that heartbreak. But since my little guy survived years of neglect in the weeds, I want to give it a chance to be beautiful!

I use neem oil and spray in the early mornings/evenings when the bees/pollinators are less active. It is likely worth digging the rose and moving it to a sunnier location - it will do much better with more sun.
