Hello eczema and TSW fighters! I am Dr. Larry Lu, a naturopathic doctor based in Canada who has made it my mission in life to help those suffering from inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, topical steroid withdrawal, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, and other forms of dermatitis.
Oh no! Whereabouts are you located. I am in North America so I mainly only know North American brands. I also recommend you check out my video on “how to heal baby eczema”.
Nice! Here are a couple things I would think about: Sun: are you in direct sunlight? Sometimes being in direct sunlight can irritate sensitive skin Soaps and moisturizers: what other ingredients are in your soaps and moisturizers? Topical products with lots of ingredients may irritate your sensitive skin Fruits: even fruit sugar can cause blood sugar spikes, which may contribute to flare ups. I would stick to low sugar fruits Let me know if you have further questions!
I found out I have H Pylori and hesitant to take the medication due to the antibiotics. Been trying to see if H Pylori is also a root cause of eczema. Have you heard if those two are a link?
Yes! Studies have actually shown that high H. pylori can lead to eczema! I definitely recommend trying to eradicate the H. pylori and then replenish your gut with gut bacteria through a good probiotic!
@haadiyamaryam omega 3s can be taken anytime! Personally I like vitamin D in the mornings to mimic morning sunshine, and Berberine can be taken anytime but ideally away from probiotics (since Berberine can kill probiotics) 😊
Not always. I definitely recommend checking in with a healthcare professional before using any supplements. Supplement dosing for children can be tricky!
Unless you only mistakenly included TSW in your title, you lost me at saying how "ANNOYING" you knew itching was. TORMENTING or TORTUROUS work better for me, and especially concerning TSW,. Take TSW out of the title, and 10/10 great video, sensible tips for not only healthy skin but good health in general. For some they may prove to be lifestyle changes for avoiding eczema flare ups., even when-as is likely for most-they are impossible to keep up 100% of the time-making flares inevitable. But they remain important to bear in mind, nevertheless. However, for the ongoing torture of TSW itch, interrupting days, weeks, months and even years of sleep, with an endless horizon of misery the only prospect, these tips are utterly useless beyond encouraging sufferers to maintain good healthy living habits despite the misery they are enduring. TSW is NOT the same diagnosis as eczema. It is a totally different disease. It is a withdrawal from drugs syndrome, not an auto-immune condition somewhat correlating to diet, exercise, sleep etc. These tips will do next to nothing to prevent or help to alleviate the endless waves of bone deep itching that comes with TSW, let alone STOPPING it. Anyone who has experienced it would understand that. In fact, when suffering the worst of TSW itch, tips exactly like these come across as patronising, and belittling of the pain and devastation the condition inflicts. Suggesting otherwise is basically as useful as your introductory joke advice "don't scratch". Here's my tip to enjoy a life avoiding TRULY PATHOLOGICALLY CONSEQUENTIAL itch, not just ANNOYING itch, which is a part of everyone's life, and of course, the lives particularly of eczema prone people. My advice is DON'T USE STEROIDS ON YOUR SKIN EVER, FOR ANYTHING, UNDER ANY BUT THE MOST EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES.. Follow that advice and you will never have to experience what TSW itch is, and trust me, that is something you will be ever grateful for.
Totally agree! The thing is, some of these tips may help to reduce the itch in some people with TSW. Maybe not a lot of itch reduction but any little improvement makes a difference when the itch is that bad. There is also a huge range of severity when it comes to TSW. Maybe these tips won’t help if you are in the most severe stages of TSW but maybe some people are a couple years in and just need some slight itch reduction to get them through the day. Hope you understand! 😊
@@FightingEczema I do understand. It's very easy to be angry when sleepless and desperate, and lash out, and I hope I didn't come across as taking it out on your work. It's great to have a place to speak out, We are all on the same side on this and thanks for being a positive advocate. Thanks too for replying with grace to my comment, especially because of its critical content. Keep up the good work.
Ideally you will want to get into a regular sleep pattern, even if it is different than a “normal” pattern. So sleeping and waking up at the same time everyday is important. Are your night shifts fairly regular?
It’s hard for me to give a percentage because I haven’t recommended gluten-free diets specifically. I’ve had clients do carnivore diet which includes going gluten-free and have had great results. I’ve also seen people do well on keto and low-carb diets which may be gluten-free depending on the person. Personally I think going gluten-free is worth a try but you want to think about diet in a bigger picture if possible.
On another of your videos, I found out about the four non-steroidal medication. I wrote them all down, meaning to take the list with me when I next went to my dermatologist. I strongly believe that I have been suffering from TSW and DO NOT want to do steroids again, which I feel were the cause of the terrible spreading of my eczema. When I forgot to take my list in, she rattled off the names of all four and prescribed the Tacrolimus, but also gave me a few samples of Eucrissa (which burned quite a bit). When I called the pharmacy, they wanted over $400 for it, so I called a different pharmacy and their price was $89, even though the price that my doctor showed online was $49. What a scam there seems to be! So I am still suffering with no medication since I wouldn't pay the $89 without a sample to try first. Will keep following you for more advice and ideas. But just want others to be aware of price gowdjing.
My face neck and by back itching and red rashes cause from Hair dye reaction. My GP doctor give me steroid cream but no use..I was really suffering! Can you please suggest what to do it's been 2and half months, I tried 3 types of ointments but no relief!!
There are likely factors that are preventing the skin from healing. It could be anything! Maybe soaps and shampoos you are using are irritating your skin. Maybe you have an inflammatory diet. Maybe stress is causing the reaction to continue. Try your best to figure out what the “root causes” of your skin issues are.
I’ve heard of people having success with more natural topicals such as coconut oil or jojoba oil! You can also maybe look into Apple cider vinegar rinses. Hope it clears up soon! Sometimes it takes time
I’m definitely a fan of berberine! But I would try to incorporate it into a proper protocol. For example, berberine is great at killing bad gut bacteria, but you’ll want to also take probiotics along with the berberine to replace the killed bacteria with good bacteria. Otherwise the surviving bad bacteria will just re-populate again. Histidine has some evidence to suggest it works for eczema but results are a bit mixed and in my clinical experience I don’t see it doing much for severe eczema. Hope this helps.
Hormone imbalances. As a woman I got horrible flareups when I was following a fixed intermittent fasting routine for several months, which messed with my hormones. I developed chronic eczema when I turned 20. I got my first flare at puberty as well. Gut health is important regardless if it a root cause of my skin inflammation or not.
Yes! Definitely sounds like hormone imbalances are playing a part in your skin issues! Thanks for sharing your experience. Is your eczema pretty much clear nowadays?
@@FightingEczema I quit fasting 1 week ago so I did see some improvements. I know it's going to take some time..At least I know what the ultimate cause is and I don't feel the need to use my steroids. I'm going to look into cortisol, estrogen and progesterone support. Also my hands get itchy in the morning and that's when cortisol levels are the highest.
How can I share my story?! My neck is fully healed! My arms at 97/98% healed! My back is getting there! The back of my knees are about 80% ! Almost there! I started at the end of March this year.
Yes, it’s definitely possible. Although medications usually only treat the symptoms, there is absolutely nothing wrong with treating symptoms if it helps you live a higher quality of life. I am a big fan of working on the internal root causes WHILE ALSO treating the symptoms with a medication like ciclosporine. Hope this helps!
Good info video. Could you please tell why skin peel . I don’t know I have eczema or TSW . And how to stop not spread to my thigh and leg Skin peeling how many times happens one time or many times . What is skin peel indicate . Thanks so much God bless
Skin peeling can be a natural process of skin regeneration! It’s hard for me to know what exactly is going on without seeing your skin. You may want to see a doctor in person if you are worried about your skin. Let me know if you have further questions!
I have had the chance in my life to live isolated and go on one of the best elimination diets over 2 years. I do have weird and extensive food allergies/ sensitivities and a latex allergy. But im great with hot spicy food. I never eat out. I only cook from scratch. I have severe allergies to antibiotics including those fed to livestock. Thus i am vegetarian. I have always reacted to my own hormones. Exercise has always made tsw better. For me the lymphatic system is part key. In this flare i can feel every line of it. And i have scheduled lymphatic drainage massage for asap. Although i do it myself as well and exercise. Taking all of that into considering i still had a flare. As i became overstressed. And mid life hormone fluctuations are likely playing a part. Ciclosporin was horrible and knocked me out and made me so itchy. Im trying the M one you mentioned as i need a break physically and mentally. Hopefully this will allow me to get in order some of the situational stresses. Its no easy thing tsw.
Glad to hear that the lymphatic system drainage helps! It’s a battle but doing all of these little things will add up and make a huge difference. The key is to make a good longterm plan and stick with it 🤩
It has been 11 years since I started TSW. I had the oozing face flare hit me really hard at year 4 which came to me by surprise, and every subsequent flare after was less severe than that 4th year one. After so many years its hard to say what if I still have eczema. but what stumped me is that i've had elephant skin hands the whole time, where others have had theirs go back to normal. I recently travelled to japan and korea, away from canada and it is slowly going away. somehow i thought i was stuck with elephant skin forever (still, not knowing if its from eczema or tsw.) i guess i just wanted to share that in my experience - a change in environment really helped my skin improve (but this may be regular eczema)
Glad to hear about your experience! Hope you had fun in Japan and Korea. I’m sure the elephant skin will slowly return to normal. In general for elephant skin I might recommend to keep your protein intake at a sufficient level, utilize red light therapy, and be consistent with daily physical activity. Best of luck!
I am a Canadian expat. I do better in Europe. But I'm Yr 8.5 of 40 year use. And I've recently had a stress flare. I was looking smashing before my flare. Pretty ticked off about it.
❤ There are over ten different types of magnetium, Which one would you recommend??? When I found this information out I was very surprised, For instance one of them can make you poop poop poop, So my guess would be that you wouldn't want that particular magnesium to help. 😮😅 Exama.
Hi Debra, the two common ones I like to recommend are magnesium citrate and magnesium bisglycinate. Magnesium citrate is the form that can make your poops more liquid! This is not necessarily a bad thing though, especially for those who tend towards constipation in general. If you don’t want runny stools, go for magnesium bisglycinate 😊
Hi! Dr Larry, you are very informative. Thank you. In your another video you talked about some anti_candida herbs like Varuna bark.I cannot get it in my country, Kenya . Where can I buy such herbs, please!
Hello! I am not familiar with getting supplements in Kenya but I would look for the following anti-candida supplements: - Caprylic acid - Oregano oil - Berberine - Goldenseal - Garlic - Candida-killing enzymes Best of luck!
My girfriend has been using corticoids/corticoid steroids for 12 years, aplied it only at hands. Stopped 6 months ago, then TSW kicked in, eczema showed on places where she never had - legs. She started taking dead sea's salt baths. We also went to Crete, Greece in July so that salt from sea healed her eczema in only a week. Since we got home she applies colloidal silver on skin and moistruires after, and it helped a lot, no eczema anymore. We hope it will stay like this, and you can try same tactics.
Bro what do I do when my job SCREWS with my sleep schedule? Been getting home at WILDLY different times. Sometimes I’m 7pm-7am, 3pm-11pm, AND 7am-7pm. I’m beyond exhausted and stressed because of it and I can’t fall asleep and mostly just scratch all night. Any advice?
(Google Translate)
@@FightingEczema yes it was! also i wanted to know if it’s common to develop breathing difficulties with tsw? i am not able to talk for a long time as i start grasping for air it’s so embarrassing 😭
That’s a great idea for a video! In general I look for a supplement with more strains (10+ is ideal!) and a CFU of about 10-20 billion CFU. I have some more useful videos on my Instagram that might give you more information! instagram.com/fighting_eczema/
I never use moisturiser on my torso, and its fine. Also i thankfully never had tsw skin in my hair. However, I struggle with no moisturiser on my hands and feet. I need to function, i have work, dogs and kids. I lasted 3 days before.
