I love travel, geeky events and beer, and I love doing stupid things. So showing it all off on RU-vid is a perfect idea, isn't it?

So why the name Three Star Vagabond?

Vagabond, because I want to have fun and experience everything that the world has to offer.

Three Star, because I can't afford being a Four or Five Star Vagabond! This is not a luxury travel vlog channel. This is a channel about fun experiences, cool events, and affordable flashpacking.

A great video (as always). US friends are often amazed when they see old American cars from the 50’s and 60’s, but I try to explain a bit of the history, which you did a lot better. We have a great event in our town, Vänersborg, in late August when ladies (ONLY) drive around in old cars. Driving around in old (American) cars is called “Cruising” and is arranged all over our country. Also the more rural area, the more “raggare” and “raggarbilar”. This can be explained that in those rural areas people are used to take care of them self and their belongings and now how to handle a welding machine, a sledge hammer and angle grinder to fix their sowing machines or water boiler. Buying and old rusty US car and fixing it is no issue. I had a chat with a guy who runs a … wait for it! ….. rock’n’roll and aquarium fish shop and who also organised various music and motor events. He said that today the music and the cars united people in a unique way. You could see a heart surgeon and a welder discuss 2- or 4- or 5-port carburetors in a Ford Impala 1957 or division manager in a major multinationell company argue with a McDonald worker who was the best - Elvis Presley or Little Richard. Class, income and step on the social ladder don’t matter - the motors and the music do!

As a Brazilian, I have always felt strange and out of place when it comes to this type of behavior, because in Brazil it is exactly the opposite of Sweden. Here if you don't cut the line you are treated as "boring" or "idiot", if you are not religious you are also treated that way, most of the politicians with the most votes are involved with some type of religion and people love to talk on themselves to diminish others, brazilians are always loud af too. Now I realized that I would do very well living in Sweden, because I always hated this type of Brazilian behavior.

As an American who lives in California, I feel like my perspective is probably very different to those who live in Sweden. My significant other and his family migrated there, and heard very bad things about Rinkeby while there. Of course no place is perfect and I am always cautious where I am no matter what. However, every visit I have had in Rinkeby, it's never been so bad nor have I felt very worried. The area is still nice with how clean and the amount nature that there is everywhere. Like I said, I could be biased as I'm American and used to much more worse looking areas. I'm a big fan of your videos, and I am actually very happy to see your video take place in all the areas I would always walk through and visit during the summers and winter!

Really happy to hear that you've visited some of the places I go! And I agree - the "bad" places really aren't as bad as many people imagine. They're still problematic spots that we should address, but I don't think it helps to give in to too much fear either. Cheers!

Thanks, but I would not recommend to try seeing both cities in one day as you will only have time to walk around and then the cities look rather similar (especially taking one boat trip each). Instead, I'd focus on the specific highlights, some as you mentioned, such as the Belfry, Holy Blood Chapel, Bruges Madonna, Museum and the Brugse Zot Brewery in Bruges and the Castle, Altarpiece and Belfry in Gent. With your tight schedule, I would have visited the Belfry in Gent instead (less croweded and with an elevator) and skipped the Boat ride in Gent. Walking downtown is not really an option in Gent as the station is a bit far off...

Good tips for how to optimize the visit even more! And yeah, ideally one should really spend a lot more time - but I had such a hard time choosing which place to visit, so I tried to eat the cake and still have it. Some things worked out great, and some things...not :)

@ThreeStarVagabond День назад
The US states aren't as different as Americans believe. So far I've been to NY, NC, FL, TN, IL, OH, NV and CA, and they are definitely all very American. It's like the regional differences between e.g Scotland and Wales.

@@ThreeStarVagabond I suppose everything is relative. We are each sovereign states- As a tourist I see your point- As a resident of CA years later a resident of NY they are very different (from a USA citizen perspective) Death penalties, health care, language barriers, food, politics,housing costs, taxes, gun laws, education etc. Especially with illegals storming our borders. East states don't see what Texas does - BUT I did subscribe because I like your presentation.

Sweden operates a series of facilities - Riksarkivet services - because there are more Swedes living elsewhere in the world than in Sweden today. Combined with the proportion of foreign born immigrants currently there, wouldn't the government be interested in drawing Swedish families back to Sweden to support the culture as well as overcome the low birth rates?
@ThreeStarVagabond
@ThreeStarVagabond День назад
Hmm... Are you sure that there are more Swedes living abroad? The Sweden Abroad page estimates that 700k Swedes are living abroad right now (which is of course a huge number either way). I think that there's a certain amount of wealthy and/or influential people who won't be drawn back no matter what the government attempts, I'm afraid :/
@AndrewKendall71
@AndrewKendall71 День назад
@@ThreeStarVagabond The head of Riksarkivet was saying of native Swedish heritage, not passport holders who are just living abroad. So, like my family who emigrated to the U.S. in 1896. It's like 19 million, mostly in the U.S. and Canada. I'm considering a move to Sweden with my family as it is. But if Sweden's authorities really understood some of these troubles and did what a few other countries in Europe are doing-making a family return easier-we'd almost certainly be coming over.

@@ThreeStarVagabond Just an update after today. Pompei is awesome. Now the simple ticket is 18euro (+1euro if you buy it online). Go from Porta Nolana with circumvesuviana (I left with the second train, it had a 11 min delay so it left at 9:27 instead of 9:16), easily I've found a seat. I paid the trip of circumvesuviana with my card directly at the entrance to the lines (tap in). Just ask the staff for tap@go. Once you've paid and you reached your destination just look at the ticket office for the tap out device just tap your card until it is green. Be careful because if you forget you will pay as you were on a line an entire day and it is quite expensive. But don't worry, we forgot and in 5-10 min we came back and tap it out. When you get back... Pfff, all hell got loose:)). Just keep your goods safe and look around. For me both of them were good and I had a great experience. Unfortunately no Vesuvius because we've taken by foot the entire Pompei. All the best !!

If you want to help these “beggars” what you can do is buy them food. Never ever give them money. I’ve seen many times young men on bikes come and collect the cash. While there are real beggars in Stockholm (but it is very rare in part because citizens can’t really become homeless normally since you will be provided shelter and food and such by the state if you’re in the need) the vast majority, especially the very performative ones sitting and “praying” or (and I’m sorry to stereotype but it seems accurate) the Roma beggars are always involved in organized crime.

Same old same old, imprisoning refugees and deporting them to their deaths. Punishing survival in the name of humanitarian cause. The Germanic people are rich on the outside but poor within. I can guarantee to you that in fifty years this is what Drottninggatan and the market at Hötorget will look like. And the Africans won't be singing Pippi Longstocking anymore. These people will outbreed native Swedes and take over everywhere. Watch a video of downtown Los Angeles in the 60's and watch one now. Barbara Spectre wasn't lying. Thank you Miro, that was a great video! I'm always very curious to know what it's actually like, but from what you've shown, it looks like a nice place. Especially for people who come from places that are far worse than most people understand. I'm not sure what gun laws are like in Sweden, but I know people have them, just not to the extreme we do here in the US. Have you heard how these gangs get ahold of guns? Where do the guns come from?
@ThreeStarVagabond
@ThreeStarVagabond 4 дня назад
Good question! I have to admit that I haven't dabbled in gun trafficking yet, but I imagine that it's smuggled guns from abroad (eastern Europe?) mostly. The guns people own in Sweden are mostly for hunting etc, so I doubt that those are actually used by the gangs.

Great video though I don't like lager, I have a rather dark mood and prefer stout, IPA or a darker/red ale. Omnipollo is definitely worth mentioning because they "tar ut svängarna" (make wide turns) and experiment a lot. Oppigård is a brewery in Dalecarlia that makes more "normal" beer. I like their IPA. Electric Nurse, was started by an electronics engineer and his wife who's a nurse. Also producers of great beer. From my roots comes beer from Emmaboda Brewery. Not only are the beer great but the names ..... EPA - Emmaboda Pale Ale or Bapelsin (Borange in English - it's from an anecdote). Even in our small town of Vänersborg is a small craft brewery - Microbryggeri1. Many small breweries don't and cannot sell their products to us drinkers, but may have a small bar and often sell to local restaurants. There have been talks of changing the rules and laws that will impact microbreweries in a bad way, but I hope the politicians reconsider the planned new laws. And as a bonus, I shared a slideshow I made for our Pensioneers club and you can find it here (my channel is called Magnus Kesselmark) and 29 minutes into the video are photos of drinks and food from some of our US roadtrips with a lot of beer testing - "7 Resor ..."

I used to live near a "no-go zone" in Skåne, walked very safely around late evenings, nights and early mornings near/in surrounding areas including industrial areas, without ever having any issues. Only reason I rarely ventured into the area itself was because it was the wrong direction from where I was going. I had to call 112 more times when I lived in the city of the same city (for burglaries). I know many females are paranoid and maybe for a good reason but I don't share that experience and is not very scared. I much rather walk around a Swedish no-go-zone at night than one in USA or whatever.
