I like the idea of hybrids especially If you don't have somewhere close to plug an electric vehicle in. What is the engine braking like on it as it changes down through the gears?
@@davidrochow9382 in general this is a very good first attempt....but....exactly that it rides like it is a 1st gen and will benefit with time and development. Thanks for watching
Good man Lofty, I will tie the A-421 into the N-502 for the Pont Avon on the 10th. Please feel free to leave some beer on board. Say hello to Uncle Tone. LAMG member.
Hi Lofty. Great video thanks! I only came across this video when browsing your uploads and not when I was searching for reviews of this bike. I would suggest renaming the title “Super Soco” instead of “Super So Co” to increase your hits
I just love the Pommy reviews on bikes and would've bought many a bike but living here in Australia, i need to get back to reality of a big bike that turns and punches out the Klm's.... Love Honda but next up is the Aprilia Tuareg 660 for something smaller and different...
I‘m riding >20’000 km the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S with quickshifter, it’s an excellent bike. Great fun, very few problems. Actually none in the last 10‘000km. But unfortunately it doesn’t offer an automatic gear shift as the BMW ASA you tested. This reminds me of my former BMW C650GT which had a full automatic, too. Why is this not standard on all larger bikes? It’s just so much better! This ASA feature makes the 1300 GS very attractive, what a nice step forward!!! Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Just found one of these pre registered on a 71 plate for 7.5k in pearl white with one mile on the clock. Good buy at that price or not 🤔. Might have a better look 😉
@@StitchDGlitch I belive the left clock plugs into the Koso and the the wiring for the right clock becomes redundant(tucks under the tank). Have you tried the Koso Web page?....although the Rninet"s look the same they are all subtlety different....thanks for watching
@@theloftybiker3090 no the kit comes with a plug that meshes both wire to become one. My concern is the bracket. I need a single bracket to hold it and the kodi DL-04 doesn’t come with it.
@BlackBirdieGolf the Wing DCT is probably the best bike ever built and used as a tourer on A roads it's NO.1 in that environment....the GS is the best all-rounder. Brilliant at most things, turning it's wheels to any task....it is also 10k cheaper than a Wing.....you pays yer dosh and takes your choice.....thanks for watching
I@@theloftybiker3090I had the BMW RT and that bike was amazing. The maintenance made me sick so I got ride of it. I'm looking forward to see if Honda updates the Goldwing to keep up with BMW. BMW created the ASA to compete with Honda since the Africa Twin DCT sales are high in the US. Great video my friend!
great vid. I lived in Helston for 16 years so it was great to see some familiar roads ! I'm on my third XR since 2015, now on a 21 TE but looking to swap for a 24 with the M Sport package. Did you notice any vibration in the mirrors? Mine does vibrate a bit, obsuring the view - it looked like from the video that these do not, which is good.
Given the failures the 1300gs has already suffered I would be Very Dubious about rushing in to buy an asa bike until its been proved reliable. The bikes are too ugly for me anyway and the ergonomics are a backward step in order to make it "sporty".
@@GPR111 that old 1st generation problem......usually takes 18 months of product testing on the public......its not as if you get a discount for doing their job!
I had 3 different model GS’s until a few months ago but got rid of them all and replaced them with an RT that I love to ride, sure they’ll be bringing a 1300 ASA to the market soon. On the subject of automatic it’s different to this but after 40+ years biking a couple of years ago I got a BMW scooter. I know it’s not the same but I love this as well with the auto CVT is just so easy to ride. Use it all the time got rid of a car when I retired so shops local trips two up, it tops out at around 95mph so motorways or any faster roads are fine. Point is I love being on any two wheels and auto transmission I think makes riding easier especially in traffic and I don’t think it takes anything really from the experience
I bought 1 of the first honda NC750X DCT models back in 2015 and at the time what a bike, it's amazing just how quick you get used to the automatic, tons of my friends all screwed their faces when i told them and most came back with a smile on their face after having a shot of it, Just bought a R1250 GSA, but the new ASA will definitely be on my target list for the future
Yeah, I think this in addition to the Hypermotard 950SP, and a Honda Grom for the city will round everything out for the road. In northern California, the naked Hyper is not a good ride for long distances at high speed.
Never touch a job 1 new automotive industry product. Even the people who design and manufacture this stuff will privately tell you to avoid the risk. There will be recall and dealer updates . Just lthink how long the Honda DCT has been evolving and updated. Let the naive early adopters take the pain of the undocumented features . This is not a criticism , you yourself have given examples of product development. Good video however, thank you.
My 1300GS Adaptive Ride Height failed after 20 or so weeks and 1200 miles. Much back and forth with Germany for a solution, their latest is to replace both front and rear suspension plus hydraulic pump , parts cost £4500! Glasgow Motorrad been excellent, but a suspension failure could result in catastrophe. No confidence in bike now. So, Cherrio 1300GS and hello to 1250 RT TE. Which I have previously owned and enjoyed.
@@fraserpaterson6629 hadn't heard of ride height failures...along with starter relays and pannier lids....BMW need to up their game a little...thanks for watching
I wonder how long the engine will last, due to reving the engine from stone cold. Conventional ice bikes, you normally warm the engine prior to riding off, whereas it seems on this bike, you ride off on electric and then the ICE kicks in, with no pre warming and oil distribution around the engine!
@windinthewillows6248 I would think most commuters will begin in petrol and change to electric in towns......but you certainly have a good point if the person began their journey in a town....
As a R1300GS Triple Black owner i am gutted to hear about ASA. I would have it in a heart beat :( but having laid out over 20k for a bike i cant afford to change
@HJM1974 it was a big surprise to everyone. It appeared so quickly! Looks like Triumph is the only big name not to be developing an auto....but who knows......thanks for watching
@@theloftybiker3090 yeah, suspension was definitely low, you mentioned it was the adaptive ride height. The seat just looked really sculpted. Thanks for the review 👍🏻
@@Totally_Unsupervised hiya you may well be correct but the bike in the vid is a 2024 registered bike...ever likely when you need spares there is a problem.....thanks for watching
Shame BMW in their wisdom have decided not to put finger controls on as they find they regard them as unnecessary, for me not able to use a foot change they are necessary if I want to go manual or override a down change on the box.
I'm 66 and have ridden motorcycles since 1978. The R1300GS ASA and the Honda NC750X DCT are too heavy for my liking. In May I got myself a SV650. After 8000 km with day trips and a two week camping trip using minor roads I'm quite happy with it. 29 km/l is not bad.
No clutch lever - just like Honda Dax from 1971. I sometimes borrowed that bike from a friend In Kalundborg, when I was in high school. The seventies were great in so many way. Back to the future!
@@theloftybiker3090 Pretty sure you couldn't ride a moto GP bike any more than you could drive an F1 car and would take you months/years to master either. This technology IS coming to most/all bikes. I might end up with automation myself, but there is still some fun to be had with pulling a lever and operating a gear lever to be had. A PCP plan for this bike, along with the service plan for the warranty for 3/4 years puts it out of reach for many. Like a Range Rover it has become more of a "Flash my cash" bike that for most, even with this automation will not be used "off road".
Please do not be offensive. Scooters are very practical and economical vehicles for riding in towns and cities with ample storage space and some rain protection. The R1300GS ASA does not qualify as a scooter in any way.
@@frankspeakmore7104 :"This technology IS coming to most/all bikes". Someone said the same when this technology was introduced on the Dax in 1971. Welcome to "the future". You must be very young or have recognized bikes late in your midlife crisis.
