Hey Mike, I found your videos while researching the effects of thalamic stroke that happened to my 2 year old daughter. Your message gives me so much hope for whatever is to come. Thank you for sharing.
Great vid! Some fyi if you replace the sensor with an aftermarket sensor, alot of people report having issues with the cam sensor afterwards. You should replace both at the same time. This vid explains why aftermarket sensors have the issues they do and why it causes that problem ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pjf-tacXOnI.html
The FAST test for stroke definitely needs to be updated!! My left leg was tingly & I was drowsy & disoriented but that was it. Thought I was ok & kept going on to the airport & collapsed. FAST (face, arms, speech, time) is not effective to diagnose stroke!
It's been a while, I opted to return the bike under warranty at... SEARS! You can 3d print a copy, someone in my comments made her own fix, I'm sure you can get creative at a hardware store. This vid was to show you how to diagnose it, sorry.
Thanks for the quick reply Mike! I just don’t want to take it apart without knowing I can fix the issue. Hopefully my little plastic piece is intact and I can simple reduce the tension a bit!
@@JohnPowersComedy Really, if that's the problem and you see how easy it is to get to it, you can probably experiment with anything to try to get it to work. Best of luck to you.
I fixed the small plastic part by using Jweld to secure the cables in the blown out openings. It’s working perfectly now and I didn’t have to buy a new wheel!
a real hose clamp? those are real and they fail never. the one you replace it with will work but it gathers the hose where the one the factory paid more money for does not. are they a pain yes. are ther tools available to make it easy? yes.. are you telling the veiwer that you know better than the team of people who specified that type of clamp when a cheaper option would save a ton of money i have to tell you you should not be giving advice. the only good thing was the insistance of changing gaskets and not gooping it together. every bolt washer screw clamp and connector was intended to do a job. when you re engineer the car you are creating a point of failure. i have traced down thousands of these head aches some genious decided he knew better then the manufacture or sonething. that said follow the factory manual.. what ever they say is gospel and millions went into its production...
I can't find the images but I may be able to order them.. if I remember right there was just a big dark spot on the base of my brain... I'd like to get a new set next year and share the images from day of and four years out. By glass you mean like reading glasses?
@@agent6t8 thanks again for sharing your video its been very helpful . you said you got some off of amazon did they block certain waves of light? I've multiple small vessel strokes but no damage to the tissue like you have but I have all your symptoms. I've been refused a diagnosis even with evidence ischaemia approaching the thalamus. My writing is terrible sorry my brain skips co-ordination between my hands and thoughts lol
OOOOOOH ok yeah. I got really cheap reading glasses, and I have dark tinted "dongdi blue light blocking" glasses (put that exactly for you to be able to look it up) I found that uv light and light from flourescent lights is really hard on my eyes, so I deal with the jokes by just wearing dark glasses indoors. I think I got 1.0 prescription and they are about perfect.
Cool to hear your story and inspiring to share. I suffered a thalamic stroke myself on june 18, 2023 with no cause found at 22. I'm recovering well and like you said just keep pushing:)
I really appreciate the feedback thank you. Definitely sorry that happened to you, there is zero consolation like "You're young, you'll recover" I know it's really really tough but just know it gets easier over time.
Holy fuck, rambled the entire 5 minutes and then didn't even finish the explanation. Attention future viewers who find this video in a search. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME
I just took it back to sears and exchanged it but I don't think thats an option anymore. I'm positive you could have a copy 3d printed or created put of sheet metal and small nuts.
As far as I know it isn't an emission system component, nor would an inspector be able to tell that its been relocated, but I can't say for certain that it's a guaranteed pass. Sorry, I just don't know, especially with California's out of control smog rules.
That truck wasn't mine, I fixed it for a lady at my church and she subsequently moved out of state. I wish I had a better frame of reference for you, sorry.
My 4 year old daughter had a thelamic hemorage/stroke when she was 22 months. When it comes to speech she doesn't have any just a few words and is able to communicate through noise and expression. I heard that you mentioned about shooting pains on your head or head aches she grabs my hand and has us touch her head. I ask if it hurts but she doesn't understand the concept. This makes sense why she wants us to massage her head. She also has problems tracking things. Thank you so much for sharing because it gives me in insight of what is happening or what she feels. I can better help her now.
I am so sorry, that is way too young for that to happen. Big hugs to you and your family. I don't know why but I still do get headaches, like a constant low pain in the back of my head/neck as if I slept wrong, if that makes sense. I went to a neurologjst to have some tests done and he said my stroke had to have been worse than initially diagnosed which wasn't exactly good news. The good news is that they are constantly finding out more ways to recover. I'd say try to push her to her limits as much as possible. It may feel like you're doing bad things but thats how a brain, especially a young one, is going to create new pathways.
@MattThorp so you push the connecter into the coil pack, pinch the tab at the end of the connecter where the wires go into it, then pull it away and off. Should be a smoothe and easy process. The connecter may naturally have some tension on the button which is why you need to push the connector in to the coil pack. Hope that helps.
Mine was a left sided thallamus stroke they diagnosed as hemiplaegic migraine. They scanned me to rule out stroke and there it was!! Treated too late and right sided damage permanent. My right eye is weak and keeps crying! Like you I ignored the symptoms and the initial A an E doc did too because I could raise my arms and smile!! Anywaysie wishing you well here. xxxx
I'm really sorry that happened to you. The leaking eyes may come and go, mine does that too sometimes. Just keep trying. They have such a small amount of information and it's based on past results from others who have gone through it. Don't give up. It's exhausting but keep trying and keep pushing yourself. You won't be disappointed.
@@agent6t8 Thank you for your reply. so kind of you. Yes, the leaky eye doe come and go a bit. The same as you I find the fatigue levels incredible some days. Just hard trying to live with a new reality and not over exhaust myself. Take care of you too Mike.
Greetings! I’m an idiot too. Woke up in the middle of the night with my left arm (from shoulder to finger tips) numb. Thought I was having a heart attack. Called ambulance. They did EKG and it was fine. Symptoms were calming so DID NOT GO TO ER like an idiot. Waited til next day to see my primary care dr who said he thought I had a pinched nerve. I finally ended up in ER day after that. I never once thought it was a stroke. Hospital did MRI and confirmed stroke. I ended up with weird sensation in three fingers and around one side of my mouth. It’s permanent. I hope you are doing better.
Thank you for putting this out. You're not an idiot, you didn't want to make a big deal about it. I understand you have permanent damage (as do I) but it could have been much worse so count your blessings.
i did my timing belt and water pump and crankshaft seals on my 2000 Nissan frontier ( which is the same as this pretty much), and that was a shit load of work. this looks like a nightmare. i relocated my knock sensor on top, and one smog shop ( in california) didn't want to let it pass the visual inspection. a friend who is a mechanic, said that was BS, so he had me take it to his smog guy and he said it was fine, as long as your not throwing any codes. I was tempted to fix it like your doing, and replace the valve cover gaskets at the same time. i didn't realize you had to replace those other gaskets down there as well. Its alot of freaking work. good job.
If you have oil on the porcelain part of the plug it could be seals, but if the porcelain is clean and you see ashy deposits on the electrode then its probably coming in from the combustion side. These engines tend to burn a lot of oil so I'd say its probably the later.
All it does is make it easier to remove next time you have to change them. I *think* they are concerned that the anti seize will act as a lubricant and mess up torque readings, but with these you don't use a torque value so it doesn't really matter.
I walked the first day I could, to the bathroom and realized I had a lot of work to do. After my release from the ICU (6 days) I went home and started walking as far as my body would allow me to. First around the block, then measured distances such as a mile, 2 miles, etc. During my first follow up with the neurologist, he congratulated me on pushing and encouraged me to keep going as hard as I could.
Thank you so much for this. I, just today, have been told I had a thalamic stroke. My symptoms are very sleepy, blurred vision, bad taste in my mouth and feel like I have a Benadryl hangover. Both your videos helped me so much!
I'm sorry this happened. It just pops up out of nowhere and I wish you the best. Just know that it will get better over time and try to push yourself every day because you will reach the recovery plateau before you know it.
Dear Mike, I had a thalamic stroke 8 months ago. I did not know I had a stroke after one month of the initial symptom. just like you said one looks normal outside… Thank you for documenting your journey
It was sore for a couple weeks in a way that is difficult to describe but it gets better. Bruising lasted about 6 to 7 weeks but its like having a whole new racing engine installed. Good luck and don't be nervous!
Thank you for posting this. I'm going on vacation in my aspen in a month and am thinking of changing the transmition fluid and filter. This has taken all the fear out doing it.
Great vid. I like the vice method. Controlled pressure. And I'm glad you have a 64 1/2 since that's what I'm working on (a 260) and it seems like alllll the videos are late 65's and my car doesn't always match (like the brake light switch off the master cylinder vs by the pedal for example!)
I appreciate the feedback. Always found that to be a good way of doing it but people aren't learning from their parents and grandparents like they used to. The biggest differences between the 64 1/2 and a 65 is going to be the brake switch (hydrauluc) and the switch for the heater blower motor, then you got the resistor wire for the points (get rid of that) and the generator (get rid of that too) I think the best changes for me was the swap to a 1 wire alternator, and also getting a HEI distributor.
FYI for all y’all DIYers out there, they sell the concrete mortar mixing tubs at Home Depot that are huge and can very well substitute a oil drain pan.
Very well done. Love the way you explained very clearly. I have same exact truck with 70,000 original miles with knock sensor issue. This is above my pay grade. Will I have the engine driving with it on? I live in southeast alaska on an island
It should drive with an intermittent check engine light, but if you want to replace it without digging into the engine you can also cut the harness and wire another one in. If you go to a Nissan dealer, they have all the parts to do it, which is just the harness and the sensor.
My Aspen i did today 235000 miles. A little bit of filings on the magnet and nothing in the pan. I love this car! Imported it to Belize 6 years ago Had 98000 then.
Thanks so much for the informative vid. I’m about to replace both valve cover gaskets and this beast has to come off. While I’m at it I’ll replace the knock sensor, spark plugs, gaskets, and necessary tubes. What was your parts list? Thanks man!
