This movie is just a good premise with some cool visuals. Fans made a better story of in their head. Also, remember when it came out, most people were too busy making out with each other rather than watching the movie!
It's a shame we don't have an expert in the cast for this arc. Out of all of the iconic 80s horror movies, Nightmare on Elm Street probably has a lot of interesting pieces to it's creation.
I love the idea of Zod trying to manipulate the visuals in the VR thing with Superman like Mysterio in Far From Home and he sees the skulls beneath Clark and he's like "Uh, wait a second. Look at me for a second Clark, just look at me (guys, what the fuck is going on?), sorry, one second"

It's funny to see how people in the comments get flustered because the watch party doesn't understand the lore of Nightmare on Elm Street even though they admitted at the beginning that they have barely any experience with this franchise... It's even funnier how one group of fans gets triggered because EFAP doesn't take this movie seriously while another group tries to defend it by saying that it's meant to be goofy and comedic.
This movie came out the same year as Dangerous Minds which had Coolio's greatest hit. I will now attempt to write my own parody version like Weird Al. With the first movie it was just the visual Skeptical, the other movies do better at setting up Freddy's rules so that they can better franchise it and add better stakes... - Freddy can 'ONLY' harm you if your asleep - you can BE harmed while Half awake, but it will wake you up almost instantly due to the amount of exhaustion your facing - In deep sleep he can easily toy with you and kill you slowly. - He can be dragged out of the dream realm if he's in contact with someone that is waking up (Sans the hat and latter the Traps) But he can re-enter the Dream world if he finds another sleeping person... Assumedly this movie tried to set it up that he has to kill the sleeping person to re-enter as a Fee or something. - In dreams he is all powerful, to the extent of the mind of the person he's attacking. Also later movies establish the full motivation being that he is taking Revenge on the 'children' of the people that killed him instead of who wronged him initially... With much later on heavily leaning into some Pheedo Reasoning with the children not just being X'ed off. Though the first movie is goofy, it's got a charm to it, learning the mind of the killer and having a taste of the extent he can do. This movie DOES have an alternate ending with everyone alive and no Freddy scare to it, and it still looks REAL similar.... aside from I believe while they ride off with the top up, one of the friends flashes having a Freddy glove instead of him reaching through the window. But I might be mis-remembering something. There way Freddy is still the goof of the horror villains, he's not Super powerful, he's got lmited range in abilities (Most if not all his actions are or 'Need' to take place on Elm Street or equlivently the ones he's chasing have to have a direct attachment in some way I think) And even with infinite ways to end someone in the Dream world their is a HARD limit to it being if he goes too hard you could just break from the dream and wake up, and he'll have to make sure he's not too close cause then he's mostly just a Corpse with high Damage resistances, but no regenerative skills. Freddy Vs Jason is gonna be interesting, wondering which version they're gonna watch (Their is a version I think that replaced the ending with the alt one) And if Mauler and the others once getting their understand the ending. Also, Believe that the Simpsons were referencing the 2nd or 3rd Movie over the first considering they gave the rules from thoes movies.
As far as the books on traps and stuff, that kind of thing was actually something you could find in a books store back then, it was a reference to the anarchist cookbook which had instructions on how to make improvised explosives and LSD in it. My highschool had a copy of it. This series kind of follows original the evil dead series where it was unintentionally goofy then steer into it in part 2 and 3.... and turns into just cringe money grabs afterwards.
So I doubt I’m that much older than some of you and I know there’s a lot of movies you’ve seen that I haven’t but I’m always surprised when I find out that you haven’t seen some of these movies. Granted I had parents that recorded everything on hbo to tape. Keep up the good work
It's great that they've seen so little of the series, it's much more fun that way. I remember liking New Nightmare a lot, but most of the rest blend together, aside from Dream Warriors 😂.
Freddy was originally supposed to be a ped. The movie is allegory for dealing with sexual trauma. The victims are his sexual victims. They had to reverse the decision due to a prolific diddly doo in California at time of release.
While I think Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees are neat slasher villains and are scarier by technicality, I will always prefer characters like Freddy Kreuger and Chucky because they bring a cheeky personality you'll never forget or tire of even when the films they're in suck.
EFAP - “we don’t like it when people try to argue that (see, these films were never that good to begin with!)” Also EFAP - “I don’t think this film holds up as well as people think.” Isn’t that basically doing the exact same exact thing and just a tad bit hypocritical?
