I remember when he came to The Rangers, who was supposed their answer to Bryan Trottier, but injuries, and an arrest for drug possession, and the NYC nightlife ruined him.
Eh most of those hits are pretty dirty even by the standards of the day. One of the major reasons why the league had to crack down on hitting unfortunately. Guys like Stevens and Roenick definitely forced the league to pussify things even more. Always a few guys that take it too far and ruin things for everyone. Not saying don't let him in the hall of fame, but I definitely understand why they wouldn't...
NOBODY who's played in the NHL deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, if Roenick doesn't! PERIOD. He is the absolute poster boy of what every player wishes they were. Could be called the toughest player who ever lived!
Absolutely great biography! La voix du narrateur est absolument parfaite (il parle très claire): si quelqu’un apprend l’anglais celle-ci serait une bonne vidéo à employer.
Although born and raised a Hab's fan, Dad with Grandpa and I in tow travelling to the Maple Leaf Gardens 2 or 3 times a year from London, ON from the early 80's until they closed it up mainly because our Hab's were just far away for a night game. One incident of note is I got hit with a puck by a clearing puck 15 rows up behind the benches by Rick Vaive ricocheting off my hand hitting me in the forehead at about age 10. Puck rolled down 5-6 seats and and some jackarse guy snatched it up and kept it even after seeing the blood flowing down my head. I thought it was cool because I had blood on my shirt, standard young Canadian hockey kid for sure. My grandpa Jack Cassidy (was also drafted to the NHL before he was shot in the War) went down to pummel the feller to get the puck and almost everyone around saw what was about to happen and held him back barely, my Dad tended to me and said Papa's gonna take care of things to get you that puck bud. This was just before the 3rd intermission so the Leaf's trainer and security came up to make sure everything was ok with me and that my Grandpa wasn't going to kill that guy lol because he kept the puck. The Trainer & Security brought me down to their training/medical room to check me out and stitch me up like I was a player, Dad of course came with me but I also grabbed my Grandpa's hand and he came too. Grandpa made such a scene about wanting to get the puck from this fella who wouldn't give it up while the game was going, Vaive noticed and during that intermission and made sure he dropped into the medical area to give me a puck and hand shake to make sure I was ok during getting 8 stiches. He stood with his towel around his neck and asked me about my own hockey while each stitch was stitched, only took a couple minutes was just great to have him attentive asking about my hockey during that pain. I felt like an ole school NHL'er getting sticked up to go back in. I'll never forget that Rick Vaive.
i got sooo happy when i found this episode about Fleury, my all time favourite player since a kid when i was the smallest kid in the class.. What i life he lived, hope him all the best in life 🙂
It always breaks my heart that Joe was so upset to be traded to the Capitals. I was a kid, and a huge Caps fan, and we were so excited to be getting him. We thought that Bondra and Juneau would be such a great combo. There are a lot of Caps fans that love you Joe.
The year of the "Streak"... Philadelphia's 35 game unbeaten streak was an incredible run and was followed by all in the hockey world that year. The Islanders had a great feam but i would love to have Game 6 back with those high stick and offside goals... so would Leon Stickle i guess.
I loved watching Tommy when I was growing up in Atlanta in the ‘70’s. Those were exciting times…an NHL team in a Southern city back then was a first. The Flames, at the time, were the only consistent winners in ATL. So much fun to see TL and the Flames, particularly when the Broad Street Bullies came to town…a guaranteed Donnybrook!
Truly was a Horse 👍, your channel was just recently discovered by me. It’s given me many hours of pleasure looking back at what I think were hickeys glory days. Awesome research and the news clippings that coincide with the stories being told. Just love it
I have often wondered why Big Frank didn’t grab Imlach around the throat. What’s the worst that could have happened .In the end Punch was not treated fairly by Harold Ballard and did not return to the NHL . So I guess in the end he got his
Hockey was just so great to watch back in the day. WHA was sprinkled with cagey old vets and up n coming youngsters. And as much as u see the need for safety especially in today’s game. Who doesn’t love when you could actually see the players in those bygone long locked hairdo days. Awesome video 👍👍up
