Ham, GMRS, & CB radio videos. . Have fun everyone. Just trying to promote the radio hobby. We all have to start somewhere so I'm taking you along with me on my journey. It’s been fun. I upgraded to General in amateur radio in 2021. I’ve been working the world one day at a time. It is exciting how amazing it is to have a QSO with someone across the world. In a different country. Stick around and subscribe. Let me show you a little bit of my world. 73.

@@hatchetjackphillips yes we do especially on 20,40,80 meters also on the repeaters especially ones that have backup power. Another reason I like being able to use various frequencies. When the sun is down and 15-10 meters are calming down. We go over and use 40,60,80,&160 meters. Those are night bands. 40 meters is day or night. But yes you can hear folks from all over. Everyone loves talking about the weather.
Same around where I live when severe weather hits. GMRS & CB gets busy. I’m sure the local ham bands do too. I have the local skywarn frequencies programmed in my scanner, and never think to turn it on when severe weather hits.
@@MrSabram07 I was trimming for swr. Channel 18 462.625 I was just playing antenna. If you are trying to set up a base antenna at home. I suggest buying an ED Fong GMRS vertical antenna. They work great and are economically priced
TY for the video. I am a Tech and have used a 102" whip with a mag mount for 10 meters. My match is 1 to 2.5. The 991a antenna tuner tunes it ok. How can I reduce the match down?
@@joewiehr1931 trim the antenna. A 1/16”. Or just leave it alone. If the tuner works then you’re probably fine. 468/28.00 = 16.5 feet. That’s half wave. Then divide by 2. For 1/4 wave. 8.239’ feet. Rule is. Always round up. So like I said 1/16th. Then test swr
ive got 500 wiskeys of boost! but i can do very well baregoot on the 7100and the 7300! my first 10 meter long distant contact was in Paraguay South America 100 watts!
Try it talking to a radio you know isn't been modded or "peak-tune" or swing modded. I have the same radio and talking with another normal radio it's fine. Even better another president on FM. It seems that ASC doesn't know how to handle "CB audio" what I usually do I scan with ASC on. Once it stops I disable ASC and listen.
@@DJGeorgetheoriginal thank you I just deleted the music track. It may take a few minutes for it to be taken off. But it should be gone within the hour. You are correct sir about that. Please subscribe if you haven’t already. 73.
@@ShoMoto-ko1ix if you unscrew just the base or cylinder that has the coil inside and cap the magnet mount. Like if you were about to drive into a parking garage. I would say NO. as long as you did not take out the whip from the base via the two set screws. But if you took out the whip and can not remember what the position is. Then you will have to check swr. Not sure what radio you are running but most radios have internal swr meters so it’s good to check any. Honestly it’s very important to occasionally check swr of your antennas. Things happen. Coax can get crimped. A whole list of issues. I hope this helps. 73.
If you first adjust just one side of the dipole for the lowest SWR, then adjust for the correct resonant frequency by trimming both sides equally, you will be able to lower the SWR
I only have 1 CB that is FM capable so far. I really like the idea of the codes to block out the chatter of we’re traveling and only want to hear each other. Although, since we’re already using GMRS for that purpose, the CBs may just end up being redundant
@@mikeingeorgia1 understand this. GMRS works well for that purpose. If you have already invested in that then what you’re saying makes sense. Also more legal power and repeater use is also a plus.
New to the gmrs, how well does this do on the gmrs freqs and is it direction, at the moment my tower is approx 20ft, i know seems short, thats why im looking into other antenna options
This was me experimenting. It worked well. But I was playing around with antennas. If you want a good antenna get an Ed Fong. Vertical. It’s meant for outdoors and has good gain. My dipole in the video doesn’t have a ton gain. Dipoles usually don’t.
Michael, good to hear from you again! Your Father was an ATC? That’s awesome! 👏. Did he have any unique stories you remember him telling? I have a friend who is as well in the National Guard.
@@mikecricket113 Thank you. None that I can think of right off. He retired from it and went back as an instructor. I believe he did tell me that when Air Force 2 was in the air, he had something to do with that. Also, what helped him get the job is, he served in the Navy as a radarman.
@@MichaelAMartin777 this is brilliant to hear. Navy Radar man that definitely helped out. I’m glad he also instructed folks too. There is a wealth of knowledge from people who have loads of real world experience. Thanks for sharing Michael 😃
