The most impressive thing here is that the young musicians are Venezuelans who come from the lower or middle classes of society. They likely have more salsa and merengue songs than classical music in their playlists.
Whenever I feel down as I do right now given the appalling genocide being levelled against the poor Palestines (mainly, as usual against already impoverished women and children) by the out of control Israeli armed forces I listen to this sublime performance to help restore my faith. Sometimes it is hard to reconcile the majesty of this performance to the unsanctioned barbaric actions taking place in Gaza.
A youth orchestra, a youth choir, two beautiful Swedish Sopranos and a world class conductor. The best performance of one of the world's greatest compositions. Thanks for this.
I usually come back to this just to close my eyes and listen. To say I haven't cried to this everytime would be a lie. This is pure divinity, specially the last part at 5:10 when she goes from forte to pianissimo in the same note, while the orchestra slowly fades in the back... Tears flood my eyes, I can feel bliss. What a wonderful performance.
The acoustics at the Royal Albert Hall may not be the best but it attracts 6,000 of the most passionate lively lovers of classical music in the world. Long may the BBC Proms continue bringing joy to so many. What an amazing performance.
I saw this symphony on opening day of the Cleveland Orchestra's 2022 season. They had Mahler's hand-written manuscript of his 2nd Symphony there on display, and I swear I saw God in Severance Hall when that E-flat chord hit in the Finale to break the tension. Absolutely breath-taking.
Thank you, thank you!! How this magnificent music and its lyrics stirs my heart and soul! I just lost my best friend in a house fire and my sorrow is great but this comforted me so much! Bestie, we will see each other again
at the conclusion of this awesome performance by the Simon Bolivar orchestra, choir and lady soloists under the guidance of maestro Dudamel I felt so exalted that I have regained a kind of spiritual high I thought I had long lost; hope others did too. Thanks d1eg0_h for allowing those of us unable to attend this once-in-a-lifetime R A Hall performance of Mahler's amazing symphony experience it.
Romans 8:26 [NKJV] - "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."
Only people from communists dystopias acknowledges the true intention of Shostakovich...this is a portrait of the devil. Well done, El señor Dudamel. Finally someone realises that this isn't supposed to sound beautiful and tempo must be FAST.
Se estivesse nessa platéia iria aplaudir com brados de Glórias, Louvores a Jesus Cristo, pois ele venceu a morte e me deu esperança de vida eterna. É justamente da sua vitória sobre a morte que a letra desta sinfonia fala. A Deus seja a Glória a honra e todo louvor.
I understand your feelings about God which get very ambivalent dad who’s a pastor, an alcoholic and compulsive eating disorder. So I can’t say I have faith but I do have hope. This music gives me hope cause how could something this beautiful by created by a mere human? I collect sea shells from an island near Florida and every year the Gulf Stream brings totally different types of shells! And I always think “How can you look at this and say there’s no God?
