Thank you so much for checking in. Welcome to my channel!
This is a hobby channel about various miniature scale model cars, including 1/64 mainline Hotwheels, Matchbox, etc. models. Basically the range is 1/100 to 1/18. Reviews, challenges, etc. content. Sometimes other scale models too, like figurines and car lifts. Additonally, here and there, my old vintage or retro toy cars from the 1970's and 1980's show up in the videos as well.
I'm keeping the videos pretty short, just couple of minutes long, so it won't take too much of your valuable time to get a good idea how these models are.
By the way, if you have any suggestions, for example more detailed video about some model, constructive critisism, etc., feel free to put it in the comments section :)
It would help the channel a lot if you could give a like, comment, subscribe, etc. Thank you very much if you did :)
Thanks, Mk4 Golfs are still fairly often seen here, but of course as time goes on, they're getting more and more rare here too. Next planned video is Golf Mk3, and after that Golf Mk4 models, and so on :)
Thanks :) Trying to enjoy the summer as well, so coming videos may be released with a bit bigger delay between them. VW Golf Mk3 models coming next, after I put the video together.
Thanks, they released also fancier Golf GL model, but me being like Hubnut, preferred the more basic trim level :D I think at least here was (in real life) also even more bare Golf C trim level.
So nice models. I am totally loving the old rims wheels with chrome center caps. Totally loving the Cabriolet especially in this pre-facelift variation in red. Later with the painted full plastic bumpers it was still cool (especially when considering it was even built when there was the VW Golf II) but the old ones are just even more classic especially when being such original (which nowadays is mostlikely only seen as model car because it's a miracle to find an old Golf without tuning wheels and lowered chassis). For my Audi I also still have the old steel rims with the chrome center caps. But the caps aren't looking too nice (dent here and there and the rims are rusty, haha, and unfortunately not with the rectangular holes). Asked a car painter about to put rust away and to re-paint them but he wanted 200 Euros per rim ... it was too expensive for my taste. At the end I got my wafer alloys for 200 Euro (all four together). It's looking even better with these original alloys. But I am not throwing away the old steel rims.
Thank you, glad you like these models, and happy to have these indeed :) Original condition indeed gives nice new car vibes to the appearance, wheels included. Rusty steel wheels are probably a lot of work to restore back in new looking condition, but perhaps cheaper option for at least improved look would be wire brushing the rust away with drill etc. power tool. Then it might be good idea to check if they are straight and balanced, so they could be potentially fixed before painting and finishing them. Then spray paint the rims with original looking colour, usually silver paint, clearcoating, buffing and finishing it like any other car paint. I guess professonials have other methods to remove rust maybe chemically and maybe powdercoat the rims to finish them, looks of course amazing even it's most likely quite expensive. At the very least it's really good idea to keep those original steel rims, they probably aren't too easy to find these days anymore 👍
@@modelcarfinn The painter wanted to unrust it with sandblaster. It actually would even be cheap to sandblast it. But I was wondering why the paint job itself is this expensive. I'll also keep the steel rims in case I will completely ruin the alloys at some time ... to still find these alloys is already hard enough. And I bet I won't get 4 pcs for 200 Euro again.
@@BFDdrives Sand blasting is probably the best method for removing rust. Maybe lasting paint job for steel rims isn't cheap, but diy spray paint job may last for a while as well, especially if the car is not driven in salty winter roads. Anyway, those alloy wheels you have look good and period correct too :)
@@modelcarfinn Assuming the painter would have done the job perfectly with primer, etc ... that's why it's then so expensive. The alloys were original for the car. I saw them on the sticker in the trunk. And there was also mentioned that these are the only alloys using the same hubnuts like the steel rims. So it was perfect, hehe.
I liked the Jetta always more than the Golf. But the Golf is for sure a car with long history and a wide popularity. Nice modifications. Actually it should come with it when considering the price tag that Minichamps is usually holding up for their model cars.
Indeed, I was a bit surprised at the time they had left these details undone, but GTI version has them. For me at least, the model looked too bare without them, so wanted to paint them myself in the model. IXO did great job on the Jetta model, I'll do separate video about my Jetta models, yes that'll include also Jetta Mk5. Always liked Golf and Jetta Mk2, with fairly minor adjustments to the basic shape, VW brought the Golf to the 80's. It was quite good and solid car, no wonder I've seen many Golf Mk2's in your car show videos :)
@@modelcarfinn The VW Golf Mk2 was also the best Golf ever made. The technic is solid as a rock, not too much fancy shmancy electronic and also the best rust protection. So there are still a lot of survivors.
Thank you very much, and I was happy to do this challenge, I too like day-to-day ordinary cars :) Part of the fun in modelcar hobby for me is to see same cars on the real roads, even as a kid with 80's cars it was fun to spot same cars on real roads :D
Thank you very much :) I like VW Golf as well. it's indeed a classic by now. Still the current 8th gen Golf has kind of resemblence to the original Mk1 Golf, while being very modern and up to date car.
@@3carmodels In case you'd like to take a look at Golf Mk8 diecast model first, I've made a video about 1/43 Norev Golf Mk8 :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--XZo0qxDyok.html
WOW J I can definitely see & appreciate the effort and attention put in the bonus : all the competitor of the Golf in period and your Autobahn diorama and of course the reference to the song 🙂
Thank you very much for these kind words 🙂 Indeed tried to show how modern the Golf looked at the time compared to some other contemporary cars, but there was already some other modern looking front wheel drive Hatchbacks, like Fiat 127 and Renault 5, altough they were probably slightly smaller than Golf.
Thanks 👍 I guess VW Golf Mk1 was known in US as VW Rabbit. Next I'll do an answer to everyday car challenge in 1/64, started by The Quirky Garage 1999, then continuing with 1/43 VW Golf models.
True, indeed not too many Subaru models available, especially Subaru Legacy castings. Legacy Mk1 is usually made as a rally car at least in 1/43 scale, but haven't seen the road going civil version in diecast.
@@modelcarfinn At least the Legacy from 1989-1992 has done it in both Sedan and Station in Tomica Vintage Neo 1:64 and they are very expensive, the one from 1993 to 1997 is very unlikely to find it in 1:64
@@elrastrillo1 Can't remember seeing the 90's Legacy in other scales either. I guess at the time Impreza got the attention, as it replaced Legacy as their rallycar, and Impreza has been modeled in many scales and companies.
Thanks, 80's Mazdas were indeed popular and reliable, I liked their design too. I remember for example 626 winning German MOT inspection statistics year after year as the most reliable and trouble free car :) My 1982 323 BD was already 10 years old when I got it, kept it for 6,5 years, and it worked reliably, never died on the road for example. Rust was a bit of an issue though, but that was the case for many other 80's cars as well. Thanks for watching, and I have actually long form video about this model as well.
Thank you, my dad had a 1983 323 5-door Hatchback in vine red colour in the 80's, and I had a 1982 323 3-door Hatchback in lime green in the 90's, so nice to have a model of 323 BD :) I should say this model is a bit modified by me for better accuracy, the front corner parking lights were originally amber (as per pre-facelift 323) and interior was black, but I swapped this tan interior from another (blue) 323 model to this, because at least here in Finland, red 323's had tan interior.
Do you mean the interior colour? I have Finnish car magazine called "Tekniikan Maailma" issue 4/2002 which has test drive report of VW Polo 1,2 Comfortline trim level, 5-door version, with metallic red exterior and indeed, that fancy tan interior :) The test drive has Finnish license plates, as usual for this magazine, so this trim level was available at least here. Most basic trim level was called "Firstline", then "Trendline", and "Comfortline" was the fanciest one.
Thank you :) It's sad that many of these compact B-segment cars are now being killed off, at least in Europe. I think this segment is the smartest choice for a everyday driver if you mostly drive alone, and don't usually need massive space.
i also have a classic beetle in green (Majorette ) in fact I have the 3 different generation VW Beetle in green 😅 maybe I'll do a short video about that green trio
Sounds cool, looking forward to your video :) My 1/64 Beetle is blue, as seen in the last pic, and it's by Matchbox. Will show it later in detail. Next VW video is 1/43 Polo models, two of them.
I can remember that Dimi (YoungtimerOldtimer72) also had this model. He was mentioning to like the car but the colour was not his taste, hehe. He hated green so much. I'll not forget this. Very nice model - athough the interior is not so much detailed. But it's also pretty hard to see the interior as small as it is. Very typical colour on the VW Beetle. With this windshield it must have been the VW 1302. There was a more roundish aerodynamic windshield on the VW 1303 which also got a plastic/rubber covered dashboard. It took me a while until I figured out the difference of the 1302 and 1303 because the headlamps and tail lights were the same on the facelift and pre-facelift. For a while I believed the 1303 is the one with the big tail lights and the front indicators in the bumper but I was wrong.
Yes, green cars remind forever us from Dimi :) The basic shape stayed the same, but indeed there was smaller changes during the production run of VW Beetle. Small amount of VW Beetles were assembled even here in Finland in the 60's, but it was by different company, than Valmet in Uusikaupunki. VW Beetle is called here in Finland as a "VW Kupla", in English: "VW Bubble" :D
@@modelcarfinn Interesting to call it bubble. What makes me curious is what you called the Citroen 2CV. Here in Germany we called it duck. I heard in UK they didn't gave it such a cute nickname.
@@BFDdrives I guess it got the "bubble" name from the basic shape. Citroen 2CV got here a nickname after it's removable rag roof: "Rättisitikka". The word: "rätti" is in English: "rag", and "Sitikka" is just a nickname, easier to say for Finns than the official "Citroen" word :) I can see a bit of the duck shape in the 2CV, so that's nice and cute nickname for it :)
Very nice model. I can remember a lot of people were buying the real New Beetle back then. Nowadays I'm only seeing some Cabriolets of it here and there but not very often.
Thank you, my father had this generation Golf, but in lighter blue, so this was fun model to add. It's actually the only 1/18 model in my collection of a car, that I've driven in real life.
Nice , I driven a lot of different V W Bugs in my life . Once one had no clutch , but you still had to shift , it was strange to drive . In the 1960 s , V W Bugs were everywhere. Junk yards were full of them . Mike
Thanks, indeed one of the nicer Bburago models. To my knowledge, this VW Beetle has been modeled by many other companies and scales, popular car, one of the first "retro" style designs :)
Heh, feels like it's not that long ago, but 2009 is already 15 years ago. First tries to take some video footage from model cars, considered even already back then creating a youtube channel, but decided against it at that time, the resolution just wasn't good enough in this camera. Didn't really have much experience at video editing either, so never published these clips before, until now :)
Thank you very much 🙂 Nice that Majorette made these models, there's not too many Toyota Hilux and Hiace castings available. Matchbox seems to have a Hilux as well, but decided to settle for these two Majorette models, at least for now.
I really like the styling of the VW Golf Mk7. Very nice designed car. Ah you got it in the dealership edition. For an odd reason I was never checking a car dealership if they also have model cars. But usually they also charge you much higher than when buying it from the model car shops. I can notice the interior and engine bay wasn't as detailed like what I've seen from other Norev models. But as you mentioned the model car is also already 8 years old. And well, Norev is also still producing in different quality stages about the details - even sealed models.
Thanks, Golf Mk7 is indeed nice looking car. My dad had a 2014 Golf in lighter blue colour, really liked it. He replaced it with VW T-Cross. Ordered this model actually from Modelissimo.de at the time. Sometimes online modelshops seem to have dealer edition models for sale and this had pretty good price for Norev 1/18 model, just 29,90 Euros, quite a good quality vs price ratio :) The end is approaching in my collection videos, so this was the final video about my 1/18 models. I've finished that scale now in my collection videos with this Golf, and can't really see myself adding more 18th scale models, I just don't have the space for them.
@@modelcarfinn For 30 bucks it is really a great deal for an 1/18 scaled model no matter what brand it is. Oh yeah, these models take a lot of space. I've around 100 in this scale, hehe.
These Majorette models are really cool - comparing the details from back in my childhood then this is a big wow when seeing the painted tail lights and grill plus the decals. The wheels are looking a bit too basic when seeing the rest of the model. But it's looking like it's easier to do a wheel swap on these - of course only if you also find wheels that will fit there due to the scale differences with other brands. I am very sure I also have the Hiace in one of my big boxes that are filled with Hot Wheels Matchbox and a few other brands. Haven't yet unboxed a lot of them. I seem to suffer from "buy everything I like because it's only up to €2 per piece", haha.
Thanks, indeed it's nice that these are so much more detailed than older diecast toycars from the 80's. It is good practise to buy what you like, even if you don't unbox them immediatly, because one thing I've learned in this hobby is that, often these castings are available only a limited time, and after that you are lucky if you can find them from second hand market in pristine condition, and with reasonable price :)
@@modelcarfinn Oh yes, that's very true and then later the price is going insane. I haven't found the grey metallic Mercedes 560 SEC AMG from Hot Wheels. If I want to get it now then I've to pay 6 Euros plus shipping ... so around 10 Euros instead 1.69 when finding it in the store. And then I am wondering why these sellers have 20 for sale ... buying cheap on Aldi and selling expensive on ebay.
