Started in 2011 but sold my entire collection due to a new job and addition to the family. Nine years later I have started to keep ball python's again.
We have changed our name from David Hamilton Reptiles to Sea Level Exotics. Get ready for new video's shortly.
Great video. Hope it doesnt get taken down. I would love to see a step by step of the gas chamber because I haven't the slightest clue about the tubing or attachment you used for it
Nice setup, I’m wanting to breed 2 rats to get babies for my 2 snakes cuz it’s expensive buying rats from pet stores, can I breed 2 in a 20 gal long tank ?
I fed my picky ball python live mice because I couldn’t get ahold of live rats Because of where I live. I bought more and more mice but they weren’t enough for a 600 gram ball. I didn’t eat for a little while even though I was offering him frozen/thawed rats. I eventually assist fed him because he hadn’t eaten anything in months(I don’t recommend assist feeding until it’s absolutely necessary for them to eat or they will die) . As soon as I put the rat head in his mouth, he cooled around the rat he ate it no problem. Next week I thought I would have to do the same but this time he snapped at the rat when I put it right next to his face and I didn’t have to assist feed. The week after that I put the rat next to him and shook it a little and this time he ate it no problem almost instantly. That’s how I switched my ball python that had grown to more than a year of age eating just mice on to rats. He eats great now too.
Instead of water i give them cucumber, carrots for fluids, less smelly tubs. too much water and the bedding needs to be changed every 3 days... as i use paddy husk its less expensive then the wood shaving... My mice and rats get lot of fresh food .... Coriander leaves or parsley leaves fresh ones, carrots, cucumber, beetroots, squash, fresh corn and pellet food. Twice a week they all get 2-3 meal worms each. Please dont inbreed them as results will be very bad for future
Ok I have to say this. I have pet rats and snakes. Snakes are not evil Mr trolls. They are very sweet. But, Aspen and wood type bedding is actually really bad for rats respitory systems. The oils in the wood chips really mess it up. I'd recommend using felt instead because it's soft and there is no dust that will get into their lungs. You can also reuse it after simply washing it with hypo allergenic laundry detergent. Because if you wind up with too many and have to give them to other people you'll want them to have better qualityrats. you never know if the people you sell them to would want to keep them as pets. The only difference between feeders and pet rats is literally socialization. And they are social animals it is best to socialize rats. Female rats normally gestate between every 2 to 3 weeks so you really don't have to leave them alone for that long. They'll gladly breed for you just as well if socialized correctly. To socialize your rats correctly, hold them at least once a day. Don't just "leave them be". Also bins in general may be an ok temporary breed bin for adult rats, but the reason why rats have bar cages is because they have weak lungs so the build up of ammonia from their urine and fecies will build up in the cage with no way to escape. They will get sick from this and sneeze constantly. Snakes poop and pee once a week whilst rats poop and pee almost constantly. Once again the only difference between feeders rats and pet rats, is LITTERALLY how socialized they were before sold to the next person.
I personally don't think these kind of videos should be put up as they are very disturbing and heartbreaking .. have nothing against people doing what they want to do but don't think it should be plastered on RU-vid
I'm wondering, do people search out these videos just to moan and complain and call names? If it bothers people so much the process of breeding these as a food source, don't watch.
Your logic is failing. You don't know if a video is offensive till you have watched it. It`s simple but most people say exactly what you did without thinking the whole process through logically as well.
I love rats and I want to breed them as pets not feeders so I looked up “rat breeding” and this came up, not offended though, I get it a snakes gotta eat and its better for it than anything else, but I personally wouldn’t do this and I think this is where other people are coming from
xxnekonekox the only reason that people breed rats like this is because they got lots of snakes and they don't wanna waste their money. If u wanted to breed rats for pets than go ahead, just use a bigger cage, better food, gave them toys etc. but they're there trying to save money lol, no snake breeder will waste extra money on random rats. Just my thoughts.
