No races to start off with. And then I wanted to just take a year where I ran for the enjoyment of just running. Which I did. But I missed the competition which is what brought me back to it!
Hope u get into Manchester. Was wondering if u could do a video on what supplements/vitamins that u take. Being a middle age runner myself I think this is a key factor including good food and rest. Your an inspiration keep after it.
Thank you for this kind comment! And congrats on the new baby! I have 3 kids and I highly recommend a runner stroller! Baby sleeps while you run. Everyone wins. :)
I've done Barcelona, fully recommend it! I was dumb enough to do the race in beand new shoes bought at the expo, so had bloody heels halfway. So my target time went sort of down the drain😅😅😅
@@global-runner HA! But I do understand the difficulties with an early spring marathon. Though most of Norway ain't nowhere as friggin cold as inland Canada, it's still dark and pretty "miserable". Personally I don't mind the treadmill, so I survive 😅.
SO motivating - thanks for the inspiration hell I am trying to break 3:30 in my first marathon at 55 next month in Indy - 2:30 BEAST - look forward to following.....
Sad you didn't get a BIB for Copenhagen. I will run Copenhagen and would love to meet you in person. I live in Sweden so Denmark is an 1 hour journey for me.
Great plan. It will be interesting to see how those HMs turn out. I am also thinking of a marathon in April/May. I may do Vancouver or maybe I should try for Manchester 🤔Anyways looking forward to Season 2!
I am doing the Manchester next year ... done it before ... pretty decent course with little hill around 26th mark ... Paris- have done it, the second half of Paris gets a bit dodgy with a few underpasses ... accommodation- I always choose Holiday Inn, City Center tad expensive but they have the bib collection there and 2 min walk from the tram station...
Since my own logic is target sub 2:45 in Malaga then go for a championship time in Manchester I’m getting serious validation from this video 😃 good luck on Monday
I know you’ve missed out on champs start in London sub 2:38, but have you looked into GFA entry ? Not sure on your residency, but for your age group and time you’d be pretty much guaranteed? Although not as quick of a start wave could be an option.
I ran Manchester in 2022, great course. There is a sneaky hill in Altrincham at 17 or 18 I recall but nice downhill after it. It has areas of great crowd support balanced with quiet areas . I loved it, just watch out for the weather & don't expect an expo, its basically a hotel room for number collection. Love the journey!
Agree. The hill at Altrincham is tricky but u get tremendous crowd support and as mentioned, a fab downhill ... the quiet area is 30-33/34 types if i remember but overall, its fantastic crowd support all through ...
It’s super tough. Yes I’ll have to do a lot of it on the treadmill. But at least it’ll be shorter faster runs and I won’t have to do 3 hour runs on a treadmill!! :)
Thanks for the suggestion! My plan for an autumn marathon is NYC because it’s the world age group one. But I did the Niagara half one year and it was a great race! Running along the escarpment and finishing at the falls! I think the marathon crosses the border?
Hope u get into Manchester. Definitely want to get into the right marathon so u have people to run with and not end up in no man’s land. That’s where tough mentality is needed. I was wanting to know if u could make a video on what supplements/vitamins u take being 44 myself and just starting my road racing journey I think these little things help. Thanks you and your subscribers are an inspiration.
Manchester is a strong choice. They moved their male elite qualifying time from 2.30 this year to 2.24 which is quite a difference. Recommend sorting your accommodation out as soon as you have your entry, I left it till a few weeks out this year and it was slim pickings (public transport is very good by the way) - good luck for Season 2!
Thank you!! I would like to get in. Just got to make sure I get up at 4am Monday!! Yes that’s a huge difference. Good shout on the accommodation though.
@@global-runnerI got my PR at Newport this year. Small race, very rural but very well organised, has a good reputation and is pretty fast and flat. I would recommend it but you have always have good memories of races in which you did well!
@@global-runner did uou get an email? I didn’t but reading on their official fb page (post 4 days ago) that its wednesday not today that the remaining places are being sold. I got an email last week that said monday so who knows!
I live in Houston! And I am signed up for the full. We should definitely meet when you come here. I have ran the half the last 2 or 3 years. My favorite half and my PR is on that course
@@global-runner can you substitute one of the half marathons by a 10k race? Might be the better choice if you want to get faster. Ideally the first race.
I have a "trick" to get into the Copenhagen Marathon even though it is sold out. I don't want to write it here in public, because they may close it down if too many does it, but is is perfectly legal and I did it last year. If you want I can help you with it.
@@global-runner I did Ottawa this year. It was my first one, so I don't have much off a reference point for other marathon courses, but other than a few little hills at 32km it was mostly flat. The only thing Ottawa is notorious for is that it gets really hot on race weekend. We got lucky this year though.
Some (most?) of the "sold out" races here in Europe have a trading market (Valencia has an official waiting list counting down your spot in it). People who can't make it to the race sell their spot on platforms such as eBay (careful!) - seller informs the race organizers and they then change the data for a fee (usually €20,-) to buyer's data and BAM!, you're in! Certainly worth a try! Ask people here if they can access their local trading platforms/ Craig's list for you - I'm sure they will!!
I decided to listen to you and my strategy is to start with 3:10 pace group (in Chicago) and, after 16-20 miles, see if I can accelerate! Also, while I like Alphafly, I’m going with Vapes! Just did my last “mini” 3 mile tempo in them (6:27 pace) and it reminded me of just what great shoes Vapes are!
I'll toss out Myrtle Beach in March? Flat, fast, nice temps but downsides would be lots of turns, could be running into a headwind along the beach section, and probably not a deep enough field so you risk running by yourself all day. Other options are Mountains 2 Beach in California in April and Ogden in May in Utah (I plan on running that HM) but these might be downhill "cheater" courses so not sure if you're into that haha.
@@global-runner I ran Barcelona in 2021 - beautiful course and superbly organized! BUT definitely not "super flat" back then. They changed the course this year - looks super flat now, indeed! Highly recommended option!
@@TRFCv5 The problem with GFA is that you have to be resident in the UK (which I am not). I use a few cameras (including drones etc) but the one I think you are referring to is the Insta360 Go3s. It comes with its own cap mount. It’s super tiny and you can then overlay the stats from Garmin. (What a world we live in!)
Don't consider Paris - it's not a fast course. Lots of super tight roads and turns, feels like a house with nooks and crannies. For those that run in packs: no wiggle room, lots of pushing and shoving forever.
@@nikp.7823 Thanks for that feedback - I really appreciate it. Paris was definitely up there in my thoughts. It’s interesting trying to find a balance between a fast course with lots of people around the 2:30 mark and an overcrowded one. But the biggest issue is finding one that is not sold out!!!!
Being from Calgary myself, it’s fun to see all the landmarks I’ve ran past! That center street hill is no joke! I did hills adjacent to Edmonton trail… and my legs were definitely a little wobbly after that 😂 love these!
Malaga 2 weeks after Valencia is also another option, very fast course & seems to be getting busier every year. I've got the same issue of running sub 2:40 & thinking i had the championship time, hopefully i can get it in Valencia in 8 weeks.
Reassuring that bike counts for you...I am older and newer to this (except if you count all the XC-skking from 30 years ago) and not sure about what counts and what does not. Thanks
Wildcard mate... Rome fastest time is 2:06 vs Manchester 2:10. it's mid March. Fairly flat, but with some narrowish cobblestone sections at the end of course (from around Piazza del Poppolo at around 34k).
Ive watched alot of running vids in last year. I have to say, i love your vids and content. Ive recently took up running again in last year and have been competing in 10k but have been inspiring to to do 1/2 mara and eventually full. As a 45 year old you have inspired me to go for the marathon. Keep up the great vids!!
