Welcome to the "Safe on Deck" podcast! In the fleet I flew the MH-53E "Sea Dragon" helicopter, and these days I instruct the next generation of Naval Flight Officers in the T-6A "Texan II". Throughout my incredibly short time in aviation I have been fortunate to meet a wide cross-section of aviators. Along the way I have done my best to document each and every flying memory, but eventually I came to realize that even the sharpest photo or the highest-quality video can only really capture so much.. Everyone I have met has a unique story to tell, and "Safe on Deck" is my humble attempt to capture as many of those exciting and inspiring aviation stories as possible.
Rob it was an absolute pleasure meeting you at the show in 2023 - the crowd in Pensacola is so fortunate to have you as the voice of the beach airshow!!
Really love your pod casts, you have a great way of interviewing and you obviously know your stuff. I say you’re on par with Steve Davies 10% True podcasts. Thanks to the General for sharing his experiences and thoughts. I wasn’t expecting the last part on the Vans RV’s. I built an RV-4 that first few in 1988, I still own it and enjoy it very much. Vans designs are outstanding I hope the company gets back up on its feet and continues to improve and grow. Keep up the good work.
Sly is always good to listen to. The 58th was a great collection of world class talent and had in 1990/91, the greatest plane in the world at that time. The MISIP C Eagles were beasts! Add the quality of pilot Paco Giesler had acquired and trained and they were the best.
Another excellent episode. Lt. Col. Peace is an amazing guy.... Nuclear engineer, fighter pilot, airline pilot, runs a scholarship. Inspiring doesn't even scratch the surface. And the loyalty he showed to the C-130 unit when offered an earlier chance to fly fighters... Speaks to his character. Thanks to you both for recording this, it was quite enjoyable.
Thanks for your comment Sedlo! Sheriff is an incredible human being and a great pilot too - Alabama and the 100th are very lucky to have him. Kinda awesome and humbling to realize that folks like that really are out there..
I have recently found these via another podcast I have to say how hooked I am on them. I'm currently listening to Jon Reutter P-E Ep. and its brilliant- I WILL be catching up eventually! One question though. Is there any reason why they're not on Spotify? I have no idea about the tech issues with uploading etc. so genuinely curious as I thought it may reach a wider audience (and from a selfish view its the only streaming platform I pay for). Keep up the fantastic conversations, cant wait to listen to them all.
Thanks Shaun! I have looked at Spotify in the past and there was some expense associated with hosting podcasts through their platform but that may have been in error. So I’m working on it - for now everything is available completely free here on RU-vid and Apple Podcast!
@@safeondeck I just wanted to say thank you for putting them onto Spotify. This is fast becoming my favourite podcast to listen to. It's also ludicrous how few views your channel is getting (looking at RU-vid). I assumed it would have been substantially higher with the quality of the interviews!
Loved listening to this. Col Gordon is so genuine and his career has been amazing. A huge thumbs up and thank you both for taking the time to put this together. Very much enjoyed the Airplane! references too 🙌🏼
Another amazing episode! Captain Cummings has had an "wicked awesome" career doing so many interesting things. He's also got a great story telling ability, the time flew by so quickly! Love it.
Thanks Sedlo! Isn’t it amazing how not only has Yank lived an incredible fyi g career but he’s so humble and self effacing? Truly the kind of person we all want to serve with..
This was a great episode! Bernie has got a great way of telling stories. Loved hearing about the RAG, Super Hornet and F-35 Operational Test. Thanks to you both!
Great show! Col. Gordon has had an amazing career, and he tells the stories so well. Shout out to Mae Jemison, too! She's inspired so many, and is an amazing American.
I’m trying a new thing where I ask the story behind someone’s callsign as a close-out question at the end of the episode, and Col Gordon did not disappoint!! Glad you liked the podcast.
What a great interview! Capt. Gibson has such a relaxed and easy going way of relating these incredible stories. I could listen to you guys talk all day long, it was phenomenal. Loved hearing about his pre-astronaut days.
Thanks @sedlo! We had an awesome time together back in July, and Hoot’s stories are nothing short of legendary yet delivered in that trademark casual style that the truly impressive aviators seem to have..
Another outstanding interview! I find your guests’ path into aviation are always fascinating. It’s not always A-B, but things often do work out. Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks so much for listening! The lesson I’ve learned from this whole adventure is that everyone has something in their past that they have overcome and someone who stood behind them to help out.
What an interview! Captain Kinsella has had such an amazing naval career and is a great storyteller, too. And a very decent person, too. Thank you for sharing your story, Lucky. Much appreciated.
I am proud to say Commodore Dick Catone is a personal friend of mine. He is a warrior and the real deal. All who know him respect him. A competitive weight lifter all his life, he is still bench pressing 400 lbs in his 70s.
Great podcast. I can’t believe I didn’t know about it. Great guest. Interviewer is on point. This podcast needs more attention. It’s shocking that it’s not more popular. Spreading the word.
Very good Antonio!! Would never believe how smooth you are with the interviews. You definitely have the skills to teach aviators with a professional and humble approach. 👍
Fantastic!! Such great details and I didn’t want this interview to end! The entire process was so professional, yet personal between two career aviators. I am honored and blessed to know both parties and proud to be American… even more after listening to a true history of our countries aviation development and the warriors that defend us all… excellent!!! 👍
