Dobyns Champion Series 765c. It's the medium heavy crankbait rod. It can handle your medium sized, treble hook lures easily. Like the S-Waver 168, 5" and 6" bullshads, as well as your cranks and bigger jerkbaits. One of my favorite rods and I don't leave home without it
Been researching and adding/removing eurotackle baits from my cart for the past three days trying to make up my mind. This is by far the most in-depth and comprehensive review I’ve found. Thanks for the recommendation. Great video.
The Arashi Glide was designed for Large Mouth Bass. Almost every bait out there you will have to upgrade hardware to stripper fish bud. Manage your expectations on a mass produced “entry level” glide bait. It’s not a Hinkle bruh lol
I've caught so many fish on the s waver 168 and 200 I've lost count! Hard to beat for the price point as well! That being said, the Deps is a beautifully made bait!
Duo Realis Reversible Lure Case. Perfect storage option for small crankbaits and jerkbaits. Also has openings to allow for moisture to evaporate and help preventing rusting on hardware. They should be available in most sporting retails stores. Personally, I got mine from thehookuptackle.com.
I really hope you’re not throwing a topwater on 20lb Fluorocarbon, that will kill the action of your lure as well. I use 30lb braid for all of my topwater fishing except frogs I use 65lb for frogging.
I honestly have not had any success fishing them anywhere I have fished them. Thus, I have removed all the hardware and retired all of them. The S-Waver catches more fish in those areas anyways
Garrett, thank you for the video. I am new to fly tying. I picked up a Arizona semi seal starter kit. What kind of yarn/thread you use to tie the semi seal down with?
What size hooks are you running on the s-waver? I'm thinking about breaking the bank and getting owner st-58s in the 2/0 size and double split rings to get it to run deeper. Do you think I should stay with the stock 1/0 size?
I've never had the stock hooks break or give me any issues. Even on big stripers. The st-58 will definitely help to get you down deeper. But not by much. The S-Waver 200 naturally wants to rise when its retrieved and twitched. I would recommend using the Savage Gear Glide Swimmers if you needed to stay down deeper, and you can upgrade those with st-58 as well. The hooks I use are sz1 on the Glide Swimmer 205, and sz1/0 on the S-Waver 200. I do not recommend assist hooks or double split rings on either baits. I've lost some really good fish doing that.
@@garrettlaubinger9088 ok, I think I’ll go with the 1/0 owner st-58s, and the 200 s waver. I think I might use the double split ring system, but with owner ultras 110 lb, or the owner hyperwires in the 70 -80 lb. hopefully I can hook into a ten pounder with that set up. I appreciate your video.
I absolutely love the Dobyns line up of rods. Currently have four. 2 with the Champion Series and 2 with the Fury Series. The Fury Series is for those on a budget, Champion Series if you want the nicer gear.
Good call on the comparison. Its not fair to compare two baits that aren't really in the same category. If you got the $ and the gear to throw it get a deps. Again make sure you have the right gear to throw it or your gonna have a bad time. S-waver 200 is a very proven bait and you will likely get bit on it. Fishing from shore if you snag your deps up on something and its not retrievable its gonna be pretty shitty day for you.
So you are saying it doesn't sink at .4ft per second as advertised? I fish mostly ponds and just picked this up. If it actually sinks rather quickly when I get to fish it I will be selling it. I want super slow sinking baits, like most people throwing swimbaits. I'd rather count it down than have to worry about it snagging something.
I found this bait sinks closer to like 1ft/sec. If not a bit quicker. Most of what I fish is ponds. From a kayak and shore, I keep getting snagged. Even in a lake that's 10ft deep on average. This is not a slow sinking bait, and does dive deeper on the retrieve. It does not suspend either. IMO, not a good pond bait.
Great review. I believe it does have good action and well built. In my opinion it's way to heavy. It literally looked like I was thowing baseball size rocks in the water. Thanks
I think the weight is perfect for the size. Glides that have mass have a wider glide in the water. The weight carries it out side to side better. If it was only 2oz I would bet that it wouldn't swim as good as everyone says.
Steve Steve a 3oz bait is a 3oz bait, I’ve casted many 2-5oz baits. No, I haven’t casted it yet. Swimbaits make a massive commotion when they hit the water...that’s just Swimbait fishing.
So far 1 follow and no fish. I fished a variety of urban ponds and golf courses. Got a follow at Red Mountain Park last week no fish yet. It does sink and rather quickly, unless your burning it, its going to scrape bottom like you said in 6 feet in under i would probably opt for something else i just for-see it snagging up on something rather easily and when fishing from shore there goes your bait. They are not expensive as far as swim baits or glide-baits go but so far my bbz has done the best and then my s-waver on the under $45.00 swim baits. I may try hucking it at saguaro or canyon for 3 or 4 hours and see if anything commits i only bought one, the color you have in the video as it is popular on the roman's and other swim baits. Still the verdicts out I would say with your incidents at Mohave it would seriously hurt my confidence in the bait especially if fish were committing to other baits and especially hitting other glides. Time will tell the durability and the fish catching power. IF not its just gonna be another one of those baits I teach friends with as and introduction to throwing a bigger bait. it does have good action and if its not a producer i wont be upset if someone loses it.
Thanks for the feedback! Most everyone I've spoken to about this bait has has the same experiences we've had. Definitely a confidence killer. Especially when we have other baits in the same price range that out perform. I'll be doing a comparison video about this bait and others in the same price range soon
@@garrettlaubinger9088 freshwater swimbait rods have just as much backbone as 25-30lb tuna rods. The HG has 17lb of drag...it can definitely handle tuna up to 30lbs.
