So classical music does incorporate a jazz chord. The Neopolitan 6 is the Flat 2 where we do tritone substitution. 2, 5, 1 chord progression we replace the 5(dominant chord) with a Flat 2.

It would be interesting to know how Easterners view these differences. This video, as well Nisbett's book are analytical, Western style. Hope politicians and decision makers in high places acquaint themselves with these concepts. The world needs it now more than ever!

You left out possibly the most important feature which is relationship to trade winds and currents in Atlantic. Others regions were limited in global reach capacity by currents that could only be overcome with power. Big advantage when navigation permitted deep blue travel. Not my insight but can’t remember who gets credit for the research.

Well well, difficult with Åland innit... Corrections: Åland and Finland were never annected or similar by SWE; we were THE SAME country. Then about domicility: It's perfectly OK for a Swede or indeed a Finn to purchase property in Åland as long as the property: - is situated on, by town or other municipality, "planned area" - isn't larger than about one acre (4,000 m2 I take it) - isn't situated by the sea The EU saw to that. In addition, exemption from bullits above are more or less rule today for houses owned through stocks - which covers the majority of all property today on the island. But if 'NoGo' above you need the sv. 'hembyggdsrätt', which indeed is a story by its own.

You made a really great explanation! Neapolitan scale has been used even in italian and especially neapolitan popular music. You wrote that that chord in the neapolitan major scale gives you anxiety? As a southern italian and having lived in Naples i should say that the neapolitan music is romantic, emotional, exciting, sometimes dramatic but it never gives anxiety! I'm kidding, my best congratulations for this interesting video!

i find this also applies to photography, esp. composition and point of interest. western photography tend to show subjects (which extend to sceneries) as the point of interest, which explains why photos of individual people, other living beings, and objects are prominent. think it as ‘this is a photo of [name of object]’. eastern photography tend to show the overall scene in which there’s no true subject but the entire scenery _is_ the subject. also they capture context of the photo. think of it as ‘i took this photo to represent [mood, celebration, or important event] and i feel [emotion] about it’. though this may be inaccurate since i see lots of example of western photography (seemingly) applied eastern zeitgeist to their photos and eastern photography doing the opposite. but most of the time, it really shows, and this is why i often being problematic when i have to analyze and criticize photos taken by people from the east, because we _don’t_ share the same zeitgeist

All major/minor triad possibilities should be covered but make sure to remember symmetric property (i.e. if looking for VI remember to read right to left as well) Major and Minor Scales Diatonic Triads I = i ii = bVII iii = bVI IV = v V = iv vi = bIII vii° = ii° Nondiatonic Triads bII = vii bii = VII II = bvii biii = VI III = bvi #IV = #iv #iv = #IV

Wow, what an accomplishment, thank you manifoldly, in part and whole! I brought Nesbitt's book The Geography of Thought in 2003 just before departing to mainland China in that year to stay until 2015, and it was a "bible" for me to help me understand and incorporate the Asia Way of Thinking. Your analysis and holistic understanding are, for me, superb and gave me new insights. However, one correction I suggests needs to be made: 9:40> “In the sciences the Greeks were amongst the first to look for the underlying logical principle and pattern if human senses disproved the scientific method they should be ignored” Error? Empirical data are NOT ignored in the (modern, actual) "Scientific Method"--I do not think you mean this? This is relative to the Ancient Greek philosophers as early proto-scientists, yes? Only thing I disagreed with. Thanks, looking forward to using your work in my Responsibly Free School. Get free, stay safe.

Why did Asia fall behind? It shared the horizontal axis with europe. Population density and an anicent lineage, China did not create a Asian centric world. Harbours connected to navigable rivers are there in China, still they failed as a world player. Creativity and invention, civil administrations and educational opportunities, military might and central government and Asia didn't rise to prominence. Why then Europe? A backwater compared to the Orient.

I think one of the most famous examples to me is in Beethoven's Eroica symphony in Eb major, where in the middle of the development there is an outburst of rage where the progression goes G-C-FM7 (the famous chord with the minor second dissonance), which would normally lead to a Bb7-Eb cadence, but instead turns out to be a deceptive Neapolitan chord for a new theme in E minor.

As a social scientist, I think Europe had a lot of things going for it (it would be foolish to say that it only became dominant because of the weather). Saying that would it still produce great men such as Plato, Newton, etc if they started out in Sub-suharan Africa? Or if they lived in isolated tropical countries such as the Maldives? I do not think so. Again, there probably are countries whose environments are better than Europe but it had a lot of things that went right for them: 1. A lot of competition amongst different countries led to innovations quickly (wars, trades, etc.) 2. Conquering less developed regions and nearly wiping out the inhabitants there. (Certainly didn't help their development) 3. Better environments for farming and domesticating animals (I'd rather have a horse than a zebra pulling my cart) 4. For a time, China and the Middle east were the most developed countries in the world. But Europe surpassed them due to having a more open policy. Many more reasons could be said, but to say that Europe only became rich because it had the better geography would be short sighted to say the least.
