I can’t thank you enough for this. I’ve had one at L5 for years. Medrol Pak and 5 days of pain meds 2-3 times per year. What really helped me feel better was your description of the pain. It’s like a lightning bolt and I’m instantly debilitated. FYI. All orthos I’ve ever seen demand to see me before prescribing. The problem is: I CANNOT move for a day and cannot drive for 3-4. Dr Schuler was a very bad surgeon. His spinal fusion failed, he also gave me a 6 inch incision on my stomach and didn’t explain that there was an alternate for minimum invasive surgery. He’s a really bad person who always put business first and patients second. His practice overprescribed opioids as well. It was really a toxic environment
It's a shame VSI doesn't participate in/accept insurance, and are de facto "out of network" for everyone. While lessens the practice's administrative headaches, it also significantly limits the patient pool to those who have the means to pay out of pocket (which isn't most of us). I dropped the $$$ for a consult with Dr. Schuler many years ago, but it was clear there'd be no way I could afford the suggested procedure. All the fancy treatment sounds great on paper, then reality kicks in for the majority of folks out there....and we wind up getting stuck with a fusion anyway.
My doctor want to do surgery as right away. Even before my bone density test. His assistant listened when I asked about alternatives. I started consistent core exercises and plan to start using a mini trampoline. I’ll be getting the injection in a few weeks for immediate relief, I hope…
