Hammers Dracula, is the Best ever made, in my opinion. The great Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee & a cast of believable, character actors, set the story alight, with the wonderful fast paced direction of the great Terence Fisher. This film is set in the right. gothic period, with wonderful sets and costumes. Ace Cinematographer Jack Asher's wonderful brilliant lighting and camera placement beats any CGI photography effects of today. All his black & white and Colour films are truly painted with light. This Film & all the Classic Hammer films of the Late 50's & early 60's deserve to be on 4K to show how splendid, theses gothic films really are.
The best scene in the film is when Cushing's Van Helsing runs across the table top, jumps and pulls down the drapes hitting Dracula with the dreaded sunlight! Great ending!
The colour grade on this restoration was hotly debated at the time of release. One would need to compare it to the old VHS versions to see how much of a difference there is. Any darkening is an aesthetic choice - sometimes supported by surviving negatives/prints, or other notes.
That's not entirely true. And the old vampire unaffected by a crucifix twist was played out in The Fearless Vampire Killers in 1967, and a faithless priest in Hammer's own Dracula Has Risen From the Grave in '68 also plays with the stereotypes of religious figures being a threat to Dracula. Hollywood still uses the tropes when it suits them.
This must have been just before he passed away. I had a lot of fun as a teen being a Roller fan. Like kissing Les and not wanting to let him go I had a firm grip:) Being on the front of their car while they started to drive. Meeting Less and Derek with the press and still have the great photos. I'm glad I never held back on anything back then and had lots of fun. How often do you go to the disco and meet your idol not knowing he will be there:)
The Neo won't fill the whole room with light like a regular lamp will, but they are rather effective and definitely visible across a darkened room. I tend to use them along with my other lamps to help calm myself. (Also I have several, which multiplies the lighting impact)
I have got a double feature movie DVD of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in Dracula I am dedicating this movie DVD to my old school friends who are both sisters and I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxx
