Hi my name is Tracey and welcome to my allotment and vlog channel. Myself and my husband Carl will upload content sharing our updates on our allotment journey, hobbies and general life.
We started our allotment journey September 2021, moving on from our backgarden just learning as we go. Subscribe to follow our learning journey growing a variety of produce and sharing some of our favorite recipes.
Look out for a monthly plot tour, a monthly greenhouse update, and serve it up on Saturday, where we share a recipe plus vlogs in between all of the above.
Hi Tracey. You can't be vexed by those onions. I leave mine in the greenhouse. If all else fails, you could chop them up for the freezer and also make thick breaded onion rings. Better than shop bought any day. Crikey, your brussels are huge. Did you take to growing tips out? Your swedes are coming along. I'm feeding mine. I was thinking about getting garden fleece out for night time temperatures, just to bring things on. I have to bring on my butternut. Those pumpkin leaves are a little bit bristly lol. Elaine 🌱 🌸🌸
That's exactly whay I do elaine, just look at which one needs using first and if I don't have a use freeze it 🤣 Your tomato harvest is some thing else 🥰 are you making sauces?? I usually freeze the tomato itself and use as and when but I'm really tempted to try canning with the sauces. X
@traceysallotment2506 Hi Tracey. I've made ready to go pasta sauce and tomato and bell pepper soup. I havent got the freezer space so the next thing I'm going to have a go at is making tomato powder for soups and tomato paste. I haven't got enough freezer space left (or enough to spare). No worries, I'm going to be giving some away too. 🌱😁👍🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
Hi Carl and Tracey what a cracking job you have done there , I know you great at jams and bits your family must be very happy with you and your preserving skills .
Look at the size of them onions!!!!! 🧅 ah not long storers… may try a few next year. Wow Brussels already!!! What are you feeding everything 😂😂 You two do amazingly well ❤ 🎉
@TheRightPearPlot do you know what other then chicken pellets at the start we have not actually fed anything 😅 I don't think many more Brussels will be ready for a few weeks now but hoping we have some for xmas 🙏 Il keep a log and see how long mine a actually store .. I'm sure it was 3 to 4 months though 😁
Fab job guys wow 2021 seems like yesterday. Hope the strawberries 🍓 do as well as the other ones did. Have a super week, Ali 🌞🇨🇦 Pear = ain’t growing your going 😂
@myrustygarden it does seem so long ago. The strawberry bed was the first bed we put in. Let's see how we do next year. I hate doing it but I think the pear tree has got to go. It always looks like it's dying off. X
The swedes are definitely a good size, and I'm jealous of your onions I've tried a few times, I think its to hot in qld where I am. I've had success with shallots and this year some leeks grew. So I'm getting better with the allium family.
Nothing as good as fresh brussel sprouts baked with a little olive oil! Your onions look glorious! Did you know you can companion plant to reduce damage from pests?
@jonap5740 that's exactly how my husband likes them. He's not keen on them any other way. I must companion plant more 😊 the pests have been bad this year.
Great onions. I'll have to give these Kelso a go. I like the real seed varieties I grow but I'll give them a try. Thanks for introducing me to this onion. Nice courgette too. Very 👍
Great sprouts Tracey. I sowed mine for cropping late in autumn onwards so I can pop down on xmas eve for my xmas day sprouts. So I'll have to be patience. Great harvest you two. Well done!
The strawberry bed looked great once Carl had turned it over and weeded it, 6x is what i use ( chicken pellets ) i do pay a tenner for it, so ya got a bargain. I am gonna start hiring Carl out 🤣🤣. But seeing this video reminds me i need to sort my strawberry bed out, slugs decimated my strawberrys but a plus point is that they are throwing out loads of runners, so i need to get some cut out and some planted into pots 👍
@Jimmy.Plot.41.b it was a right mess and I knew I was renewing it anyway so kinda just left it There were loads of runners too so it's suprising how many new plants come off one. I thought chicken pellets were a bargain too we got my dad some for his allotment 😅
@Mis-understoodAsteroid thanks so much. I tried commenting on your channel but it's hiding my comments so not sure what iv said for youtube to hide me lol
I once witnessed a Babushka (old Polish lady) place here strawberry plants out in January, with snow on the ground. I thought, no chance. It continued to snow for 2 months, which in fact insulated the plants from the colder weather in February(-20°c). She was the first to crop. Which was probably her intention all along. Local knowledge, and a lifetime of experience, shut me up.😅
Wow that's amazing, to be honest the old methods are usually the best 👌 I have added the chicken manure on to replenish the soil. Fingers crossed for a good crop next year. Thanks for stopping by 😃
Have you tried cooking eggs with the mini cooker ? I know it's possible with bigger ones, but i'm wondering with this one for like a one man meal (2eggs rice and some vegetables for instance, or just eggs alone)
@IchRockeInDerDisco hi thanks so much for stopping by. Iv not actually tried eggs but I don't see why not. I mainly use for rice as I can never consistently cook rice correct 😅 I'd say give it a go but it's a great little cooker.
