Recently put their Alnico III "Surfari" set in a strat build and this Alnico II set looks like it'll go into the next one. I've used Toneriders for years and always impressed with the materials and workmanship too, unlike when I've tried various Wilkinson pickups, the Toneriders are always consistently top quality every time. Thanks for the review! 👍
You could try going into the input and setting the amp as clean and neutral-sounding as possible - see how that works. However I think the speaker in the Mustang II is a full-range speaker, rather than a typical guitar speaker. This would make for an IR that isn't very useful in my opinion.
Interested in getting a SB UK but only had combos in the past. Would either of these cabs be suitable on their own for jamming/small gigs or do you have any recommendations on what cab has worked well for this with the SB UK?
It really depends on your tonal preference, but pretty much any speaker will work ok as long as it can handle 25 watts (which most do). If you're after something small then I would suggest trying a few out if you can to make sure they're up to the job tonally. I tried 1x8" cabs before (with other amps), but they didn't work for me. A 1x10" will do, but my Tonetubby can be very midrange-focused and works better at higher volumes in my opinion (not always possible right?). I've used a cheap Kustom Defender 1x12 and that works pretty well and sounds decent, being a 1x12". However the Kustom is 16ohm, so the Superblock will be running at slightly reduced power (still plenty loud though). If you need as much volume then get something with a high sensitivty (100dB+). I imagine the Celestion Creamback G12H-75 would work well the the Superblock UK as a good all-round speaker. The EQ on the amp will give you plenty of control too. Hope that helps.
Wow really? Thanks. I still have it. It's one of the few of my creations that has survived being hacked into something else! Here is the video I made of it years ago from scrap pieces of wood: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-88gp7tqQqFU.html
@@AaronJohnProduction Thanks for the comment. I won't be using the whammy bar. The bridge is blocked from moving and the scale length of the guitar remains the same, so intonation is unaffected.
Thanks bro'. The first one does have lyrics, but they were unfinished and I never got round to finishing them after about 9 years! The second track has already been released with vocals back in 2017 called "Bluff Hand".
I have put CTS full sized pots in it and it fits (super tight). Also changed the pickups for Dimarzios DP122BK. Sounds super good now. Good video thank you
its because the mid boost circuit is a 25db boost (quite big boost) and this would amplify the single coil hum to a really high level - plus Clapton uses the noiseless in his strat
I see someone else replied to this as well. Yes, the need to keep hum to a minimum and the fact that my budget is low is why I haven't got something like Fender noiseless, Lace sensors etc... Actually I'm having issues with these budget pickups, which I'll mention in one of the following parts. I've hit a few snags along the way, so this project has slowed for a while. Still part 3 is ready to be posted soon in the meantime.
Nothing wrong with the SX guitars. I had a strat which was pretty good for the money, and I bought an SX P-Bass copy over 10 years ago, which is very good, and I still have it. You're right about the hardware, it is built to a budget, but it is completely useable as is. I work as a guitar tech, and I've had a few SX's come in, and they come up very well every time.
I have an old black sx tele from the 90s, which has a proper tele headstock - they had to change it further down the line. It's a great build and, like your strat, the neck is absolutely superb - just the right amount of chunky. Pickups aren't that bad either
Why not just buy a MIM Fender deluxe Powerhouse Strat? All you have to do is snip off the tone cap then it's exactly like the Clapton thing, including the dummy pup for the noise cancelling feature that works brilliantly. Genuine Fender parts including Tex Mex pups! You can pick up a used one for something like US$350. Without the dumb looking hook head.
The demo just sold me one of those beauties. Love the style of review. some videos have like 2 minute sounds and 11 minutes of telling me the specs...that I can look up anytime!
My mini squire from day one the tone control never worked , i sent it back to the shop, they did nothing. I changed the pickups, he pots and the cap .47 uf, still nothing, took it to a local shop ,if ya turn the volume loud there is a little change in the sound, the bass plays fine ...just no tone control. anyone have any suggestions ?
Got the exact same bass, I wish people would stop calling them beginners, or children's basses. I'm 72 and I have one, lovely guitar, for anyone. ❤️🎸. Nice playing. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. I did install a Fender branded hi-mass bridge and an affordable alnico V pickup. That lasted a couple of years and now it has Labella flatwounds and the original bridge back on (I prefer the look) and I kept the alnico V pickup in there. I also got a black pickguard for it. I love that look. I would love the look even more if it had a maple fretboard.
@@RobCmusicthanks for the reply ! Could you please tell me a little about your bass amp rig using the Hotone Britwind ? It sounds awesome ! Is t that actually a guitar amp ? Have you ever used it with a bass cabinet ? Do you use any effects ? I'm asking g because I'm wanting to put together a rig with more of a lead bass heavy/hard rock sound. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help you could spare !
Your review videos convinced me. Mine arrived an hour or so ago. Came out of the box perfectly fine. I have to say that the frets and fret edges were pretty close to the same level of finish as my Charvel SoCal guitar. I don’t know if that’s a big positive for Squire or a big negative for Charvel. 😂 This bass 100% can be used for playing along with Iron Maiden. 🤘 I think I will put a set of slightly heavier short scale strings on it, a hipshot KH bridge. I’d like a little more tension on the low E. It’s super fun. 👍
Thanks for the comment. Yes the added tension does improve the feel a little bit. I've now settled on a set of Labella flatwounds on my mini-P. They make a set specifically for this scale length and the tension is just right for me.
First of all: Candy Apple!! We always say if you don't have a red bass, get one! Secondly, awesome little jams that really highlighted the finger and picking styles! And damn fun to listen to! Thanks for taking the time to do this video. ROKKON \m/
I don't know. I'm in Thailand. I don't think they're available outside of Asia. They're also becoming more scarce over here. Probably a finite production run.
Update: Highly recommended if you want to put flatwounds on your mini P bass. I put these on and they are wonderful. Much better than the Rotosounds IMO. This is an affiliate link. thmn.to/thoprod/562322?partner_id=18157
No, especially if you get these flatwounds made specially for this scale length: thmn.to/thoprod/562322?partner_id=18157 I put them on mine and they are far, far better than the Rotosounds in my opinion.
Very cool, pretty funky for a white guy...hahahaha...I did notice that most of your pluckin' was on the E, A and D strings, hitting the B very rarely. Is that just this tune, do you have a video of pluckin' that B more? I am a newbie just picked a bass up a couple months ago, I am a retired professional drummer from L.A. 40+ years, and after over 20 surgeries, mostly on both feet and lower back, my drums are harder and harder to play. I have always dug the bass, hear every bass line no matter the genre and I am diggin' learning how to play it, funky and sexy...hahaha...
I did try that although it was almost impossible with the soldering iron I had at the time as it was a bit big to get in there accurately. However the pedal stopped working completely a few months later, so maybe there was more to the problem anyway.
I play bass and my son picked up one of these and didn't want to put it down he's 10 years old and wants his first bass size wise it's perfect for him i gave it the once over and the quality seemed pretty good so was the price so he may have a surprise waiting for him Christmas morning
