CrossFit owns the name, not "the methodology". That's why Hyrox exist and is doing some things better than CF. Instead of pissing people off with unnecessary fights, CF should keep promoting its way to train and the sport, and evolve. Mixing it with politics has been detrimental for CF
Crossfit is like the other mentioned are instructor lead. That is the primary reason why individuals don't join. Class format/instructor lead can initially be desired. However, over time individuals often go on their own. Classes can be cost prohibitive.
Just took a peak. The Summer Olympic Games in Paris end on August 11th the same day of the CF Games. The 4 days of the games (August 8-11th) are the last 4 of the Summer games. Some tough choices viewing wise.
Agree with the investment in media...though I find some irony in that. There are some athletes and MANY brands that will do what they can to avoid paying fair wages - or anything at all - to content creators. In fact, it's unfortunately trending toward the content creators having to "pay to play" with some competitions and brands - i.e. give up some of their income to the entity to be considered.
Ellia's choice was perfect for most impressive. It is actually surprising how many had such little faith in Haley's comeback. I think two more months will make her so much more competitive at the Games. She hasn't even been running and killed event 1.
Use the $1m to subsidize student discounted pricing for all affiliates nationwide wide as a pilot program like Apple student discount to get kids hooked on the OS. Get the youth in the gym and then when they graduate and start working they can afford to pay full price.
Ellis’s take on separating the the sport side is brilliant and I’ve wanted this for ages ! Tim’s idea no one would watch that sorry but watching normal people do normal things is boring but watching competitive competition and learning about the competitors and there training is what non CrossFiters would be drawn too.
Host a community games after the games, probably a little more than a million dollar operation. But make the games athletes volunteer and judge the community athletes. I'm sure the games atheltes would want to get paid like ALL the judges and volunteers do...😥 I'd like to see the athletes give back at least once a year to the community, make it a terms and conditions to compete at the games.
I could only bring myself to watch the SF of Europa and Oceania. Europe because I live there and Oceania because the quality of the broadcast ensured that they all fit together nicely. Of the other SFs, the lack of event 1 meant that you didn't really get a sense of how everything fit together. Plus, I'm getting so tired about the lecture about the methodology, SF's has nothing to do with the methodology. I don't want to hear about snatching with a pvp-pipe when I'm watching people snatch more then my bodyweight. America was to much about the presenters and not enough about the athletes. Also, if you grade, use a system then everyone can understand. I don't want to google what A+ when I'm on my phone.
I know I’m in the minority here, but I didn’t mind the first day podcast coverage with Adrian. He brought in different cohosts that had different perspectives about competing athletes and their own experiences. Not to mention that although you didn’t get close ups, you could at least see everyone competing. Many times during regular coverage you had a split screen focusing on an athlete doing nothing, meanwhile someone else is doing something great and we don’t see it because the one camera is focused on a particular athlete. So so frustrating when you do split screens focusing on like 2 or 3 “popular” athletes when they’re not leading the field. There’s always 10 athletes out there and y’all get so focused on the name, that the audience at home misses cool things happening with other athletes. CrossFit media doing CrossFit media things, which isn’t always good 🤷🏼♀️
One thing that I have not heard anyone mention about WCC and Carson is that once you have had the biggest event there it’s hard to return as a spectator for a smaller event like semifinals. I thought Carson was a bad idea. Too big for a semifinal and To many memories. Also the things that have been mentioned like its location are ok for the Super Bowl of fitness but not really worth the effort for a semifinal. As a Santa Rosa native although the venue itself was kind of ghetto that regionals was a ton of fun. The next year in San Jose fell flat in comparison from a spectator experience in my opinion. I think Carson fell flat because for many it was a been there done that thing. A semifinal in Madison I think would have had similar result.
The commentary in Australia is what makes it great! They’re excited, they talk about the action and the athletes- it’s compelling. In NA the commentary is all about the minutiae of movement mechanics and proselytizing about the methodology. It’s literally like enduring a lecture or a timeshare pitch. There was little to no focus on what was going on on the floor, or the standings in the comp or the broader semi’s overall. Conway would be great as like an added guest between heats, but if you can’t rely on the cameras you have to have someone actually doing the call. Kudos to Lauren for TRYING to rein it in a bit. I know she knows a ton about the athletes and am happy to see her get after it.
The late John Madden once said, during a football broadcast, "If you don't like the result then play better." Anikha Greer losing out by one point is heartbreaking, but, and this is a tough comment on my part, but don't finish 34th in event one.
I love Lauren's idea of having the individuals competing only on Saturday and Sunday. A two day competition tests the athletes more comprehensively in terms of wear and tear. It also is a better way of finding the best athletes for the Games.
Given the current state of CrossFit's financial bottom line, this was clearly all that they could afford, but it's hard to get excited about the sport with only a six event semi final and the Games. It is not enough live in person competition to create excitement in the sport.
