When you leveled your mobile home, did it do anything to your doors and windows? We want to add on, but in the cold and warm climate here in Ohio, and because it wasn't below frost line, we have a mobile home that rises and falls with the weather, and our doors and windows flexuate.

Very nice job. Recently I learned that when you lay the boards on top, look at the end of the decking boards and make sure the grain of the wood turns downward like this-> n not like a -> u. As they weather and age, they won’t bow upward. Cheers!

I really appreciate your attention to detail, thoughtful explanations, and tidy job site. Maybe I missed it, but do you have any thoughts on effective ways to plan for an access door i.e. to store and retrieve belongings or building materials? Thank you.

Do you have a video of jacking the trusses off the wall to replace the bottom plate? My trusses are scissor, and Im not sure how to place the temporary header to safely jack them up. Can I jack three studs up from the outside by bolting 2x8's to them without the jacks kicking out?

p.s. I've liked and subscribed. Can you please tell me if it's easy enough to pull aside the skirting and to look under a mobile home and to pretty easily see if there is wood rot or termite damage? Thanks a bunch!

Found your site when researching how to refinish VOG walls. I’m wondering about the texture that is on the panels and if you were able to get a smooth finish after mudding between panels. Did you still have some texture or is it smooth with primer and paint. Did you sand it smooth? Thanks.

My brother in law wants to use a plumber to replace the 1992 piping in the mobile. As far as I know, they’re going to go underneath which is about 2 1/2-3’ high. The outdoor spigot is on the front patio. People don’t go behind their trailers as most of it is the neighbor’s. He says he’ll have to move the spigot to the backside…It’ll make things easier, they said, though it’s not clear to me why. The trailer is only 15 feet wide and 500 square feet. This would be inconvenient as I would have to run two hoses around to the patio. I don’t get it. Why would replacing the pipes not follow what’s already there? They want to put in an electric water heater to replace the propane one because they think it’s dangerous in the bedroom in its own little closet. They would also mess with the shower faucet-take out the old 2-knob one and leave a hole or have two faucets which would look weird. Do you have any idea as to why they would move the spigot? I don’t want it moved. You can easily take off the skirt panels and go underneath anywhere. A lot of webs under there. But panels can be taken out on both sides to let in light and air…and scare all the mice away. 🫣

A great looking job and excellent attention to detail. I have been following a RU-vid channel where a young couple is restoring an older mobile home. They are located in Florda and I was surprised to see that there was no sheathing on the mobile home right from the factory. The walls were constructed of 2x3 lumber (not even 2x4 s) and the metal siding was attached directly to the studs. There also was no vapour barrier between the studs and siding either. The roof trusses were mainly made out of 2x2 lumber and there was no sheathing on the roof, just galvanized metal. They had a lot of rotted wood to replace, especially around the doors, windows, and sills. This trailer will be really nice when you are finished with it. I just discovered this channel so I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos on this project.

We have this problem. They didn’t hang the siding below it and our cinder block foundation skirting so water ran in. Nice that it’s not load bearing and TOO much of a structural issue.

Is the Ledger board screwed to the house ?
@BCRenovationMagazine
@BCRenovationMagazine 2 месяца назад
Hi pacmanplayer. It is lag bolted to the main structure, but it is not load bearing on the main structure. It is lagged only to prevent the deck from pulling away from the main structure. The deck itself is supported by posts and concrete footer blocks. Code in my area requires that decks be self supporting, stand alone structures.
@GardenisLife
@GardenisLife 2 месяца назад
@@BCRenovationMagazine you double checked your local code right? im absolutely positive you know more about this than I do, but im doing a deck right now too, and noticed in my local area, if the deck is connected to the house, and over 250 sqft, a building permit is required, while if its not connected to the home, it can go as big as 1000sq ft before needing a building permit. Either way you got a beautiful deck going on man! im building a 24x12 but mine is only about 3 ft off the ground.
@BCRenovationMagazine
@BCRenovationMagazine 2 месяца назад
@@GardenisLife Hi, Gardenislife. Absolutely, always check the requirements in your jurisdiction. Requirements vary widely and what is acceptable in one area may not be in another a short distance away. In our area, there are four different jurisdictions and different requirements all within about an hours drive of each other. Generally speaking, around here a permit needs to be pulled if the deck is more than 24" off of the ground or if it has any kind of structure built over it. Repairs and maintenance are exempt. Most of our work is done on first nations lands, which is a unique jurisdiction.

Hi, Linda. Yes, this has been a big project. It was a home that was destined to be hauled out of there and disposed of. But, I picked it up and rebuilt it. All of the labels and such that identify the make and model have been removed by previous owners and renovators before I got it, but the registration documents say it is a "Pacifica". I don't know where this one was manufactured but the home I did before was about 10 years newer and had a very similar floor plan. It was made by SIR Industries in Estevan Saskatchewan, Canada. This home has been a LOT of work and has been time consuming with all of the other things we have going on. It is a testament, though, what can be done by people looking to get into a nice home, affordably, if they are willing to put in some time and elbow grease. I bought this home for $2,500. A lot of work later and about $100,000 put into it and it is now worth about $300,000. I may do a video that specifically deals with the ins and outs of the logistics of a project like this. I see so many people struggling to get into a nice home. This is a way to do it.
