Yes, make sure everything is dry between layers of ink, paint or whatever you are using. I hope you enjoy having a go. I'm hoping to make some more videos using this process soon. It's such an enjoyable way to use the plate 😀
You can do it with inkjet but you need to press it directly onto the gel plate with no paint then apply paint on top before you pull it but obviously don't use black paint or you won't see it.
It is a national disgrace that our useless leaders of both main parties in power spend upwards of 8 million a day putting up illegal migrants but state coastal defences for peoples homes are not affordable
Hi Deborah, sorry only just getting back to you. I pulled these onto multifarious card by a UK company called Lavinia Stamps - it's 330 GSM I think - so nice and thick. 😀
There are so many different ways to use the gel plate... it's basically a plate made out of a jelly like substance (gel comes from gelatine although the manufactured plates are not gelatine) that you can use with many different media to create unique prints (monoprints). I hope you enjoyed the video and it helped you with the Brusho's too. 🙌

I got a Vogue magazine expecting it would work perfectly, as so many others have experienced-literally 0/10 transfers worked. I cannot fathom what is going wrong. I’ve tried less paint, more paint, more fluid paint…. It is a rather warm day where I am, I don’t have AC but I had a fan on. I can’t imagine the room temperature could’ve sabotaged the transfer that much……. I just can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong…
Sorry to hear it hasn't worked for you. I am in the UK and Vogue always works for me...I wonder if Vogue is printed on different paper- stock depending on which country it is printed in...this may well affect the effectiveness of the pull. Temperature could be a factor too as you mentioned. I hope if you decide to carry on trying, it will finally work for you.
@@gailjuliemakes Yea from what I’ve seen a lot of people have talked about using “Italian” Vogue or some European print. I haven’t used it since this comment but will probably try again at some point with a heftier print
That is really cool! Could you pick up with a piece of Mylar? Then you could turn it over & the words & numbers would be right! (I guess the only problem with Mylar is that it's non-porous. It would probably make a mess! But could you dry it?!!)
Interesting idea...but I think it would be very messy and would just push the ink around rather than actually removing (lifting) it...if that makes sense. It would probably be difficult to get more defined marks that way possibly too. If you give it a try, let me know. 🙌
Thank You! I just bought a laser printer this week so I could do transfers to the Gel Plate. No success so far. I even made my own Gel plate, and have a 8x10 commercial Gel plate. I tried 2 different brands of black acrylic paint. No success on the purchased Gel plate, but my homemade one, I did get a measure of success
Keep experimenting...it can take a while but eventually you'll get there. I've also tried water based inks and got some interesting results. I have a video on that...the inks are Elements inks by Lavinia stamps. Stazon is another interesting ink to use. I've never tried making my own plate...interesting that you had more success with it...I wonder if you need to wear your bought plate in a bit more. Keep me posted on how you go with it. I do find leaving the laser prints for a few days or even weeks seems to work better than trying to use them straight away too. 🙌

Sorry I'm only just replying...I got them done at a copy shop so it was just standard printer paper. I pulled them into multifarious card by Lavinia stamps. Hope that helps. X
I know this is a year later but I really enjoyed this video and I'm so glad you talked about losing your Cat, i recently lost my dog and it made me feel better❤❤ ps it does suck🤣💕🙏
Aww...bless you hon. So sorry you lost your dog. I must admit...I still miss Ruby like crazy...she was a real lap cat. I have a mug that we had made with lots of pictures of her on and I give her picture a stroke every morning. Glad the video helped you a bit and I am hoping to do more Lavinia stamps tutorials this year...I have moved and am still finding it difficult to get to a happy place with my recording set up. The text stencil is 'Words to live by' by Carolyn Dube. All of the floral/fauna type ones are Lavinia stamps. Let me know if there are any others you are interested in as I haven't had time to watch it back, I just looked at what was in the thumbnail. 🙂

Hi, so pleased you enjoyed the video and that it helped. The paper was just normal printer paper but printed on my copy shop's Lazer printer. I've moved since and now have a new copy shop but it worked with them too. Here is another video with results from my new copy shop's lazer printer. Hi, sorry only just getting back to you. I get my prints done at a print shop so I'm not sure of the make. It is not a home size printer. When I go back I will find out the make at least that way you could maybe try and find a copy shop in your area that has the same model. Or, for now just experiment with a local one in your area. Thank you for sharing your technique. I like the fact that you are not using acrylic paint on top of your alcoholic inks. I think they are so much prettier without an opaque paint on top of it.
I live in Hemsby and took a beach walk about a month ago, at the bottom of the dunes there was a tree that had obviously been dragged down from the recently demolished beach chalets and there was still a bird feeder hanging from one of the branches which really brought the reality of coastal erosion home..Hemsby needs to be saved 🙏
I have seen the trees that came down...which I also struggled with because I remember commenting how lovely they were when we walked by them on the Marrams years back. I hadn't noticed the bird feeder...but yes it really hits a nerve and shows the harsh reality. I do hope they can get some proper defences in place... temporary ones are exactly that... just temporary and not good enough long term.
I just use my local copy shop that have a big laser printer that would probably not be suitable for the home. May be worth asking around on some of the Gel Plate pages x
I've only had them printed via Lazer copiers at print shops so can't really advise there as their machines would be more expensive than your average home ones. You could ask in a gel printing group maybe. I don't do enough image transfer to warrant buying my own printer at the moment.

Ive been trying this for months now.. still doesnt work. Ive watched your other video where you're trying to get a print on your gel plate and its a fail.. Im gonna try and print the image 3 times and see if it works, so far though, NOTHING. Also, I find my gel plate isnt sticky. Should I buy a gelli plate instead? Or any tricks to get it to stick again? Ive tried rubbing it with baby oil.. didnt work.
Hi Falbala, sorry for my delay in replying. I would advise getting a print done that has gone through the machine once and another one that goes through twice. Three times distorted my picture and crumpled the paper too. Then leave them for a few days before you attempt to print with them. I always get laser prints and use liquitex heavy body Paynes grey to pull and a thick paper, I tend to use multifarious card by Lavinia stamps which is 300gsm. It's tougher so you know you can leave it on the plate for longer before you have to pull...this should help you get a stronger more defined pull. I cannot advise about the plate without having seen it or used it but I have always brought gel press ones and never had any problems where I feel they need oiling etc. I do still heavily use the first plate I ever bought from them. If the above does not work...you could maybe consider getting a different plate then? I hope this helps...it is all about persevering and getting that Goldilocks moment of just enough paint on the plate, just enough pressure to burnish the print and just the right amount of time to leave the paper you pull with on plate. Don't give up 🙌😀
@@gailjuliemakes I tried printing 3 times.. still didnt work but I didnt leave it for 3 days.. maybe thats why? IDK but yeah.. im giving up.. Something must be wrong with my plate.. its not sticky enough?? thx for the reply though
think you went too far with the colours, it was much better before you added the Eggplant, the quality of the video wasn't good either with it constantly trying to focus, actually made me feel quite sick................end result looked quite good though
I had to calm down the pink...which is a colour that was gifted to me but is totally out of my comfort zone. Sorry about the focus on this one and thanks for persevering.
