At times I feel Zayn said he really never spoke to Harry because maybe that’s what his parents wanted to hear. Some how I just feel this could be one main reason Zayn couldn’t pursue the relationship but on Harry’s side his mother knew the love that he had for Zayn.. 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️

I think the pretentiousness was intentional. The character of Cairo and Mr. Miller are both people who exude traits of narcissism and psychopathy. Her wanting to "be smart and not pretty" is a hallmark of this personality style's grandiosity. Throughout the film Cairo is always talking about how everyone else is stupid in the town she grew up with. The point is not the content of the literature that she is reading, but the grandiosity it creates to mask or put a veil over her fragile ego. This is why she goes to the extent she did to ruin Mr. Miller's life, because once he tore down the veil by rejecting her and exposing her frailties the psychopathic rage ensued to take revenge at whatever costs it took. That's why she took the picture of her and Winnie. She never cared for her friend. She will go to whatever length to make herself relevant. This is foreshadowed by the lack of attention her parents gave her to establish a sense of self. Now Mr. Miller is a different story in it's own right. He was constantly trying to project what he wanted to see Cairo do, like trying to convince her to go to Vanderbilt when she clearly had her sights set for Yale. She was an object to stroke his ego constantly, and so was his wife. That's why the dinner conversation was so important to the context of this movie. Mr. Miller has this grandiose sense of himself as this fantastic writer that's going to imprint his legacy on an uninspired youth, even though he failed to be successful. Mr. Miller delusional of his own abilities that he gave into the flattery to make a horrible decision. He constantly denies responsibility for his own actions, and makes excuses to protect his fragile ego. That's why the wife called him a villain and constantly drinks and pays him no attention. This movie is not for a female or male audience. It's for everyone, to see how two very dark personalities can come and create collateral damage that no one asked to be a part of.

People said the same to the girl who came out 20 years later about Nick Carter from BSB raping her and The two girls who came out talking about the assault by Danny Masterson and The Matthew Perry incident with a teenager who was just 19. She wasn’t an adult but people arw saying she is a grown adult and defending him
There was another incident, after the hiatus, Louis Tomlinson (Band member of 1D) was going to have his first solo show. Sadly just 4 days before his show, his mom died. His mom wanted him to do this show and in honour of his mom he decided to do the show. Louis invited all the boys (including Zayn) to his show, he really wanted the boys to be there for him that day but as usual Zayn didnt showed up and blamed his anxiety. Harry, Liam and Niall attended the show. After this incident, I no longer considered myself fan of zayn
