Welcome to my RU-vid channel! My ultimate goal for my channel is to share some of my fishing knowledge and experiences with you when you watch my videos. Most of my videos will be based in New England, BUT I am sure some stuff will transfer to other parts of the world and species you may be going after. I will be fishing in both fresh and saltwater in kayaks and from shore. Occasionally I may do a video on a charter boat. I must admit I am not a perfect and professional fisherman and I will never be, so bare with me in my videos to hopefully learn some good stuff and to maybe learn from mistakes I may make on the way. Most of all get out and get fishing and share the joy of fishing with your friends and loved ones! Please Like and Subscribe!
Dave, thanks much for this useful instructional video. Very few bloggers delve into the details of how to fish for porgy and their videos are 5-minute long. Two questions, if you don’t mind: 1) If one is fishing from shore/beach (in my case - Long Island Sound, NY), what type of sinker would you recommend - pyramid or bank? 2) Have you ever fished for porgy with artificial bait such as Fishbites and Fishbites EZ Strips?
Appreciate the video but your definition of "light gear" is way different from mine. I don't even use a rod that heavy for fluke fishing. For porgy, I use a ML with a 2000 size real and 8-12# line. Tight lines!
hey david, glad to see youre doing well, and still fishing obviously. hope your fishing season is going as good as mine, we caught two bluefin this year! i know its a little too early but i definitely wanted to ask if you could make a few more trout videos when the season finally arrives. I am interested in getting into trout fishing.. but dont know of any spots in the state and how to get started going about it. take care, best wishes
I admire your experience and knowledge when it comes to fishing, and thank you for sharing it with us. One Question: How much emphasis do you place on daily Tide Phases or on Monthly Moon Phases in determining when to fish?
3/8 - 1/2oz for epoxies. Any larger I do metals to keep the profile smaller if need be. It really depends on the weather and what they are feeding on ultimately.
Nice video for beginners. You channel deserves more views. Thank you! My problem with snafu rig is the hook is at the lowest end of line. and rod is not sensitive to the position of the hook because weight is at higher position than hook. When retrieving line from beach or trolling on boats, the hook is easily stuck at bottom. After losing several rigs, I never used it again. Another excellent bait for porgy is shrimp, which is widely available at grocery store. I usually tie half shrimp tail with elastic rubber thread before putting it on hook.
Beadalon picture frame craft wire $4.00 for 30meters sold at Walmart is good for leader material for those Xraps or Minnow lures so you wont get bitten off. Easily make a perfection loop at one end and the other tie a uni knot to your lure.
pretty good also the bike choice is very nice 3x8 drivetrain huge range u can climb any hill easily, now i don't know how big is you rear cassette but i think u can upgrade to a 11 40 tooths and you literally can go anywhere with it,tho if you don't have many hills you should be totally fine, where i live is super hilly so if i wanted to do something like this i would need to upgrade my drivetrain. good video go out fishing and have fun !
Unless someone is desperate to land fish or fishing for meat and know that everything they hook will go in the box, I don't see any reason for trebles to be necessary. Inhaling one or both trebles is dangerous for the fish (and likely lethal) and for the fisherman as well. Not good for conservation. Not good flopping around a deck. Inline hooks are the way.
I've never tried salted baits for sea bass. I've done salted shrimp down south for whiting and pumps though. I've gotten lazy and don't feel like making it.
I'd recommend wearing shoes while walking around in the water. Ya know , safety first an all. You should be using circle hooks instead just to reduce gut hooking a fish, regardless if you keep them or not. Plus if you catch stripers up that far , you better switch to them circle hooks if you plan keeping one, per the new'ish law. Just sayin. Either way, tight lines and a cool video!!
Paid $60 for a whole black sea bass entree at a restaurant in downtown Boston last year. Maybe you should sell a couple of those to cover your overhead? :)
Are you still liking the Daiwa QZ750 2-years later? Still recommend it? Thinking about grabbing one for my ultra light rod. I have a cheap bass pro shops reel in it now-piece of junk.
100% get one. I caught a bowfin on mine the other day lol. I actually have 4 qz750s now. My oldest ones are still smooth as butter. I use them in saltwater for saltwater species as well.
I occasionally caught mantis shrimp while Bull raking for quahogs in Cotuit bay back in the 80’s. I made the mistake of using my bare hand to extract one from my rake and in a flash it opened up my thumb with a flick of its switchblade like arms.
Some sketchy weather out there. Glad you made it in safe. Looks like the SAK river. You're a lot braver or a lot more stubborn than I am to be out there in that.
