One of the letters attributed to Paul of Tarsus, full of advice on all kinds of subjects, some good, as here, some terrible. And managing to sound surprisingly modern throughout.
At the time of their 2014 Enter Sandman performance (posted 7/7/2014) Dany and Pau had been playing for about 6 years. Even before this, Pau had been featured in the April edition of Tom Tom Mag. Ale however had been playing bass for 3 years at most. They were very serious about their desire to be musicians, and after the video went viral they (well, their parents) began to get offers from people in the music/entertainment industry. They turned down the proposals and remained independent. An EP of original songs was released in April 2015 just before their appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show. But Enter Sandman can in many ways be seen as the beginning of their professional careers due to the impact it had. They hadn't yet played a paying gig or sold a song, but this led directly to those opportunities.
How awesome is their Abuela (grandmother), that they uploaded that so she could see it? The new version is their own, and reimagined from what is on the Blacklist Album. Live is really where they shine, because they always change things for the better.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I prefer without the strings. Hits harder for me with just DPA (and the Alessia backing track). My favorite version is Teatro Met.
Loved the reaction Nick....thanks for the double amount of sheer greatness from the Ladies. The Pepsi Center concert is simply an EPIC performance from the Ladies, never seen anything like it since the Teatro Met concert. Cheers, and stay well. Rock on. The Metallica album you refer to is S&M, a live album with the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Kamen. It was recorded on April 21 and 22, 1999, at The Berkeley Community Theatre
I agree with you 100%. It was all right there, even at the start. Pau smashing her kit and singing with energy and personality. Dany with the early version of the oh so expressive "Dany Face" while multitasking on the guitar. And little Ale, on the cusp of discovering that the bassist is ALWAYS the coolest person in the room. Adorable versions of the live monsters they would soon become.
The Warning is scheduled to play on April 15, 2025 @ the 02 Academy Brixton in London. Here's your chance to see them. Lots of time to save & plan your trip.
The Young Warning Enter Sandman video was a complete live take version they did in their home rehearsal music room they called The Cave. No overdubs. A complete performace. They said this was a multi take day. Meaning if there's a mistake (wrong note or technical problem). Both Ale & Pau was praying Dany wouldn't screwup her solo so they wouldn't have to start over. Even back in the early days. They stride to play the best they can. Then go beyond that.
Let's give Dany the credit she deserves, doing the Job of two grown men, when she was 14. When your that young and the red recording light comes on and you don't make it through the first few times then the pressure builds up. Praying no, I think hoping, knowing how tuff it was. Check out Dany killing it on Atlas Rise a few years later. So impressive.
And all three women were suffering from the flu. In fact, Pau was given steroids by the physician so she could perform because they didn't want to disappoint the 8,000 people who filled the theatre. This was recoded on their 10th anniversary as The Warning - in Mexico - and it meant a huge amount to be able to perform in front of so many fans from Mexico. The whole concert is gold.
Amazing that they arranged and recorded this (minus the strings) for the Blacklist album in just one week. The music video (with Alessia Cara) is worth a watch.
This is not from S&M. This is an iteration on the re-imagining of the track that The Warning and Alessia Cara collaborated on as their contribution to the Blacklist album. Is that Darth hanging out, outside your window? Asking for a friend...
It helped a LOT that Daddy Luis ran a recording studio earlier. He got them the right tools and taught them how to use them. These days, he's still touring with them, along with Lalo Plaza, a sound mixer/engineer, Rudy Joffroy, their co-manager with Luis, and several other top notch techs. The Warning is a tremendous set of talents and skills and efforts. It's quite obviously a well-run team! The second version is an evolution of what The Warning and Alessia Cara did in a week or so - over the Internet during Covid lockdown - for the *Black List* album. The strings make it otherworldly!
Great reaction, they are playing Brixton April 17th in London. I was going to see them for the first time in Atlanta, Georgia but the show was postponed because of a hurricane. I was heartbroken but I will survive!
This is not their version of S&M. This is all them. Metallica gave them one week to come up with their own version for the Black List album. And isn't it fitting that they have the first track on said album???
This latest version is the arrangement they came up with when invited to remake the song for Metalica's Blacklist album celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original. Check out the official video. You will not be disappointed!
Please react to one of the coolest female vocalists in the world. Diana Ankudinova - Queen of Goosebumps - Diana received such a title for her extraordinary unique voice. Diana's best performances - Derniere Danse, Wicked Game, Can't Help Falling in Love, California Dreamin', Sweet Dreams, Human Each of these performances garnered over a thousand reactions. Diana is in the TOP 3 world vocalists in terms of the number of reactions (more than 20 thousand reactions). The coolest performance that will shock you and give you the biggest goosebumps! ru-vid.com/group/PLQJJG9TMmSOB4YXRUgdxA-H-Fo_sjB3kZ Protection of the video-image about partial blocking for some countries is preferable.
Just some things about "Last woman on earth" It references that there were some men who reserved plots next to marilyn monroes grave or requested to be buried face down ontop of her coffin. And that many women/afab folk would rather be cremated because there have been many instances of feminine bodies being desecrated by the men working at the funeral homes. Can't happen to your corpse if it's ashes :( A lot of the song is just wanting death to be the end of being objectified but too many don't even get that.
Something people often don't consciously pick up on is Pau's restraint with her drumming choices here. A bare minimum of fills but a relentlessly driving beat meant to meet the needs of the song instead of the ego of the drummer. She is one smart cookie.
I think Pau is more of a percussionist than a drummer. She has studied Neil Peart's work on Rush albums. Even though Rush isn't a major influence on TW, Neil's style has heavily influenced Pau's ability to innovate on her drum fills - rarely ever playing the same fill twice in a song. Evolve is a great example of this. There also doesn't seem to be any percussion instrument she cannot play. That makes her a percussionist, not just a drummer.
Loved your reactions. Since you like her storytelling, you'll probably like Don't cry for your daughters Eve by Lydia the Bard and Kiki Rockwell's songs (and a-mazing music videos) too!
From the Pepsi Center you've missed the greatest three ever. The first is Black Holes, with Pau playing piano with a full string section backing her. The second is Hello Sandman, also backed by the string section. And the third is Breathe, the song Pau said she would never sing live, but did so at Pepsi Center. Solo on piano, she couldn' t finish, breaking down, so the crowd helped her finish it. I cried too.
Seems like I am in the minority here but I say listen to the album. I like hearing it all together as they intended. Then also I appreciate the live performances more after hearing the studio recordings.
I like your analysis. Especially your recognizing his compositional skills. I've played guitar professionally and am also in awe of this mans ability. It's so evident the hours and dedication he's put into the instrument. His style reminds me a lot of Flamenco guitar playing.
