OK. I really need to get my fisheye lens out again. I have a Vivitar manual fisheye lens - don't remember if this is just for CMOS cameras, which I have, or if its full frame. Wasn't terribly expensive, but it has taken some very interesting photos. As I recall it does get the sun star flare really easily. Closeups are really neat with these.
Hi Ralph , you must of been up and out early but it was certainly worth the effort. Some lovely soft light and pastel colours, really like the image at 10:40 , definatly my favourite. The light on the mountain peak and the soft light on the flamingos is lovely, great decision not to go with the cpl!
One of the nice things here is that sunrise is never stupidly early. Glad you liked that one and the CPL would have ruined the effect I think. Thank you for watching and commenting
Beautiful captures Ralph, nice light and tranquil surroundings. Looks like a really lovely area well worth the trip out. Keep up the good work and have a great weekend.
Brilliant Ralph, beautiful location and yes beautiful tranquil morning and the lovely soft light on the board walk images were just stunning. Have a great week and see you next Saturday
Will canon r6 attached with ef 70-200mm f2.8 mark iii lens together with lens adapter fits in Alpha Camera Backpack Air (Grey, 25L) - with Rain Cover & Tripod Holder & Capacity Expansion
I can't say for sure as I'm not familiar with that set up. It will take a Nikon D810 with a 70-200 f/2.8 in the sideways position (allowing access through the side). Thank you for watching and commenting
@@jamescarlos8642 The D810 and 70-200 will go in horizontally. You could fit a lot larger if you go vertically. I could fit the d810, Tamron 150-600 and hood in that way
Ralph, thank you for your excellent review of the "Brian" tripod from 3 Legged Thing! I was a bit surprised when you mentioned the kit you use with it, and that in certain conditions you saw a bit of blur in your images. I believe the Brian has a load capacity of 30 lbs. Based on your comments/observations, I think I shall look into the Leo V2 version, as it has a load capacity of an amazing 66 lbs, which implies that it should have absolutely zero issues with a 10 lb kit. Thanks again sir.
Glad it was helpful. It's worth remembering that all travel tripods will be less stable than their larger counterparts, the small size normally comes with thinner leg sections that are more prone to shake. It's a bit of a trade off. Brian is still an excellent tripod although I make more use of his big brother Winston now. I'm sure Leo is good as well. Thank you for watching and commenting and enjoy your new tripod when you get it
@@RalphGoldsmith Thank you, Ralph! I look forward to testing the Leo V2, and will be sure to update you on my findings. It will be my first product from 3 Legged Thing.
I've watched other videos on this style from other photographers and liked the concept of Pep's images. I've tried myself with trees, trains, and buildings but I need more work. You're right about how long it takes to edit. I enjoyed your version and I loved the outcome. What were your settings to shoot?
Glad you liked it. I think trees are probably the easiest subject to start with. I think I included the settings in the video but a quick look back at LR it looks like it was 30 images with a 7.5mm fisheye at 1/100 second, f/8 and ISO 100. Thank you for watching and commenting
I tell my friends (if they ask about what camera they should get) "The greatest picture I take in my life is going to be on my phone". Even though the best possible VERSION of that picture would have been taken with my camera.
@@RalphGoldsmith You can't lecture me about Dumb Lens. When I started in photography, every lens was a Dumb Lens. Cameras had no meters or electronics of any sort. In my current stable of 41 lenses, 16 are Dumb Lens.
iPhone photography is different and clearly there are many uses for it… just as there were with the Instamatic camera and film P&S when most families had one. I have 14 pro X and is best when used with the Leica Lux Pro App or Fjorden App, or for art photos / ICM etc… But normally there is a ‘phone look’ about images… But are they becoming the new normal with billions of phone images being made each day? But you can also use it as a live viewfinder with a real camera (good for the aurora in Scotland) or using the viewfinder App for scouting to see what say a 50mm f1.2 would look like on a scene at F1.2 and shooting at 1:1 ratio or any camera / lens setup when you do not want to carry all your gear with you.
Good tips on how to use the phone, I appreciate you sharing them. The old iPhone 11 is a bit more limited and I'm not sure I would upgrade for the sake of photography as I still prefer to use my camera for that. Thank you for watching and commenting
The best camera is surely the one you have readily available. I tend to use the mobile phone a lot lately and especially when having my main gear is not possible or appropriate. I am really impressed with what you can do these days with mobile phone cameras, especially when you edit the raw images. Not the greatest technically but surely a very useful tool, especially when scouting. What people need to understand though is that there is a lot of automatic computational aspects on mobile phone photography, which may make people believe that they can totally replace a proper camera. And this is far from reality. Thanks for sharing Ralph!!
Glad you liked the topic Thanos. Totally agree that the phone is not a replacement for the proper camera but I was interested to see what I could do with this one and quite surprised with the results. Thank you for watching and commenting
Hi Ralph, nice video this week, phone cameras are quite good these days I personally prefer a real camera, I tend to only use my phone to take snapshots when I’m on holiday as it’s more convenient to carry, the shots you took were all very good I liked what you did with the tree, Have a good week.
I was interested to see what the phone camera could do for me. I may use it if I see something when I'm out for other purposes and want to get an image, or eve some video I guess. Glad you liked the images, Thank you for watching and commenting
I had the 11 for years …. Until I went 15 pro. The iphone always provides a reliable fall back for much photography. Had many outings where the iPhone image has overcome the failures of my dslr effort! And great for easy vlogging
All good points, I've just never really seen the phone as a camera, maybe time to change that thinking (sometimes). Thank you for watching and commenting
Good shots in there Ralph. It's hard perhaps for older photographers like me to break the camera habit. Thanks to Eric & Kass Mencher who shoot only on phones, I now make 80% of my images on a Samsung Galaxy, some in RAW when the opportunity allows. Edit with Lightroom and Snapseed. I prefer a dslr in low light. As you rightly say, good prints up to A3 are possible which shouldsuit most amateurs. Will be interesting to see if you choose to get into phone shooting. It's certainly a lighter carry.
Glad you liked them Geoff. I can't see me doing a lot with the phone as I miss the lens options and somehow the experience just isn't the same. I may do some occasionally though. Thank you for watching and commenting
Excellent video and some really nice shots Ralph. Phones do have a place in photography. But I like my view finder. Phones are difficult to see in bright light and also you only have 2 points of contact. As apposed to 3 with a camera. Thanks again
Interesting feature today Ralph, I have an iPhone 12 Pro which does include pro raw it does well out and about but there is no substitute for my Nikon Z6 and the various lens. Travel light with the iPhone but miss out on quality it depends what you want.
Glad you found it interesting. I think the lack of RAW on the 11 is the biggest limitation for me but I might still use it occasionally for shots if I'm not out for actual photography . Thank you for watching and commenting
Phones have come on leaps and bounds, i have the same model and it only when I zoom in do i see the compromises that I wouldn’t have with detail from my main camera.. good vid Pal
It is amazing what phone cameras can do, even some of the older ones. Thank you for watching and commenting

Interesting subject Ralph and to be honest I only use my iPhone now and made my camera redundant manly to do with not carrying the bag about. The only thing I miss is my lenses. Great set of photographs and good information. Have a great week 👍
Glad you liked it Shaun. I think the lenses are what make a lot of the difference now,. Glad you liked the images. Thank you for watching and commenting
Interesting Ralph. I have an iPhone15Pro and the camera has come on leaps and bounds over the last 4/5 years. Larger sensor and ProRaw format. I have found that I have been using it rather than my Canon 50D, in an effort to be completely conversant with it. I can’t complain about the results I am achieving. Kind regards.
Glad you found it interesting Michael. I have always avoided taking pictures with the phone but I can image something like the 15Pro is actually a very capable tool. Thank you for watching and commenting
Great video Ralph, very interesting I have a iPhone 12 Pro which does enable the use of raw. I do like using the iPhone but there is no substitute for my main camera a Nikon Z6 and the various lens. It can be handy for travelling light and I may use it to scout areas I have not been too. Going back later with the Nikon. Great subject which can produce mixed outcomes.
@@johncoombes6231 True, I don't think the phone replaces the camera, even just from an experience point of view it doesn't 'feel' the same, Thank you for watching and commenting
Great and informative vlog Ralph, yes phone photography isn't every ones cup of tea, but however it is getting very popular. From what you showed us, you gave us a great demonstration, and i must admit the last mirror image i thought was brilliant. Have a great week and see you nest Saturday.
Glad you enjoyed it Jim and I have to confess I was quite impressed with what came out of the camera. I can imagine with a new model and better capabilities it could be quite a useful tool. Thank you for watching and commenting
Great content and great images Ralph, I think it has been praised elsewhere in the comments, but i really enjoyed the yellow flower. Have a great weekend buddy 🙏🙏🙏
Very good Ralph, informative and very well explained giving some excellent captures along the way. Thank you for that I think sometimes we tend to over look shallow depth of field so miss out on some good opportunities of nice captures. 👍👌
Actually, I haven't had that problem for a long time, A few tightens and it seemed to sort itself out. Hope you get yours sorted. Thank you for watching and commenting
Nice video Ralph. Really liked the yellow flower. It is indeed important to realize how the interplay between aperture, shutter speed, focal length, and ISO can determine the look and feel of your subject...... something few that use their phone as a camera (no matter the resolution) do realize.
Glad you liked the idea lee, doing well thanks hope you are as well. Thank you for watching and commenting

Anther great video Ralph and well explained with shallow depth of field which I didn’t know about. Great set of images. Many thanks for sharing your work and have a great week 👍
I'm into wide angle stuff right now. Can still get some good blurry background if the main subject is close up. Doing a lot of complicated angle stuff and pics that draw you in.
Very true that the blurring of individual elements in a photograph can really enhance the subject. I think you have demonstrated this in an exemplary manner today Ralph!!
That was great Ralph, very well explained about your thoughts behind shallow depth of field and the images were just FAB. Have a great week ahead and again wishing you a very happy birthday.
Street photography, traditionally, involves people in candid situations, but I like your idea better😀. As for the song, I'm not sure what it may be based on, it's from an audio source specifically for RU-vid videos. Anyway. Thank you for watching and commenting
Enjoyed the video Ralph, found the ICM very good captures I have been trying that out myself in the last few weeks. Great image of the single tree very nice.
