HIRAETH [here-eye-th] Meaning: "A deep sense of longing, a yearning for that which has passed, a sense of homesickness tinged with grief or sorrow over the lost or departed". "A longing to be where your spirit lives". "A sense of homesickness, a deep longing to return to your ancestral home or yearning to be where your spirit belongs".
All of our stories were getting old, and we wanted to be able to climb more and live more. So, with only a little previous sailing experience we sold the house, quit our jobs, and opted for a different lifestyle. We bought Hiraeth, a 1987, Wauquiez - Centurion 42 And we decided to document some of our new stories and share them with you guys here.
We hope you enjoy joining us on our journeys, and if anyone finds any inspiration from these videos, that would be amazing!
Just removed my diesel tanks today, they’re mild steel, 24 years old, with a total combined capacity of 400litres. Thankfully they already have inspection hatches but the mould, rust and dirt inside is unreal. Getting them out the boat for proper acid cleaning is going to be fun! Thanks for the upload, will be fitting a very similar polisher on re fit. Happy sailing ⛵️
Nice job.... . Any suggested precaution to avoid horseshoe shaped ring fall in to tank? ..My boat Benetau 393 tank is not made of metal..PVC or a kind of hard plastic.. It has only 6 cm of hole where only level gauge sensor goes in to the tank. And impossible to take to take the tank out.
Have a clearance hole in the horseshoe for the bolts and thread the pvc tank. If you use some adhesive on the bolts they won’t spin when fixing the nuts. Make sure you thread the holes from the inside of the tank
Hi there. If you put a slightly longer bolt on the thread next to the gap of the horseshoe. This will allow you to remove all the other nuts and be able to turn the top plate without dropping the horseshoe inside the tank. Though I found that the nitrile gasket does a good enough job of preventing this, so I didn't bother.
I’m really inspired by what you are doing. Your videos are brilliant. I’m very keen to cruise this area myself. I have contacted my current insurers who are not willing to underwrite this destination. Are you able to advise on yacht insurers who are able to insure for cruising Svalbard?
Glad you enjoyed the videos and managed to find some inspiration, hope you manage to organise the trip the area is amazing. We were insured by GJW who were already our insurers. As a word of advise put together a written itinerary and try to speak directly to the insurance companies underwriters as most insurance companies online application process will simple reject the request.
Wow. That was excellent. I had a similar issue with our last boat a 30 year old Dehler. I had the tank cleaned but I was not convinced it was a permanent solution.
Ha,i just encountered your videos, and as always the first thing that strikes me is the low vieuws, like in other channels who comment theyr journeys on a honest way without a touch off “ dramasailing” like mr A ,or “bikini and snorkelsailing “like sailing V its all ends up with poor vieuwnumbers. Off course i assume you wont make a living on your adventures, but as i now from experience….its hurting a little bit. For example if we compare mr anderaa ,with mr patrick laine, well its obvious that the last his achievements are a lot greater…. So it seems that people like more drama ( and bikinis) than honest adventurers. Besides that,i just got back from an summer trip wich brought me to oa orkney, fair isle,Shetland, far oe,hebrides inclisive st kilda .skey ,two channels in Scotland etc, that I realised once again …that sailing is the most uncomfortable, most expensive, with the lowest freedom( wind, tides, shoals etc) off all ……😅😂😂
Very atmospheric trip, enjoyed the commentary and explanation of the navigation, set up and conditions. Keep up the good work. Enjoy the rest of the “summer”.😊
How has the copper coat been performing? Been toying with the idea, many mixed reviews. We live in the tropics of Australia, dont use the boat as much as we want to! Sits on a swing mooring for a month or so at a time.
So far the cooppercoat has been great, been on 4 years now and we have had good results. We lightly abraded it with scotchbright pads for the first time this year as we had a small amount of slim on waterline when we got lifting at end last season. Based on current performance we expect to get at least another four years out of it. Most problems seem to be caused by poor preparation and incorrect application always follow their temp and humidity application advice. We found Coopercoat had a excellent customer service and are great if you need to discuss your particular requirements, they even offered to video call us on the day we were applying to advise.
Wow ! Although we're from south of the border. As children we were so lucky to spend time with our lovely extended family on the isle of bute for summer holidays. Best of days😊. Thank you for the reminder 😊😊. New subs here.
I have sailed these waters . why are you not telling us the headlands and lighthouses you are passing as it allways look different on a different day different weather,
Loved the video! Some great clips and excellent editing! Felt like I was at sea! Worst night at sea EVER was Stornaway to Orkney: 2-3m seas and 6 knots of wind. BLEEEECH.
Just finished watching your Scottish series, and I absolutely love it! You two make really lovely edits, I’ve seen a few vlogs around Scottish waters but yours are my favourite by far. I’ve subscribed to your channel and I’m gonna enjoy your other work. Keep up the great work guys!!!! Fair weathers to you both ☀️ 💨⛵️
Flogging sails downwind in very light airs is a total bummer. In fact, I was cussing just this morning along the south Norwegian coast...leftover seas from last night's near-gale and 8 knots of wind...
I love your stuff! Great video, it's nice to see a sailing channel.actually sailing! Hopefully we're coming to the west coast next month. Our charter at flamingo yachts just went bust and stole all our money, were trying to book with another charter co. Sail safely friends. X
Thanks, we're glad you liked the video. Sorry to hear about the charter company though. We hope you have success in finding another in time. Come and say hello, if you see us out on the water ⛵😎
Absolutely stunning video! Such beauty and what a privilege to see those basking sharks 🦈 Well done guys on an amazing vid and collecting so much rubbish! Stay safe much love ❤
