Thanks for the explanation. I've got a break in my tibia plateau, and a loose implant now. (1.5 years after tkr). I'm dreading my upcoming revision but ready to be out of pain. I walked on it for five months thinking, "Huh, my knee is kinda getting worse?" Whoops. 😢

Why surgeon opt patellar facesectomy instead of patellar button fixation while tkr?

Thank you for this information. I was on the fence about if i should have it done. Already spoke to surgeon who told me “only you know when you’re ready”. Which really didn’t help me at all. Not bone on bone YET….but my ADL’s are affected, i have to monitor how much i can walk or do and it limits my time with my family . I also found my last trip very very hard to walk very much, and it was my 1st seniors bus trip. So i thought , yes i need to have it done now. I do have a low threshold to pain, and have done everything else including synvisc injections which only helped up to the 5th one. So i guess it’s time…..surgery will be scheduled shortly. Thanks for the video.

I took your advice and avoided narcotics. I took ibuprofen and tylenol at the same time, and it did just as you said, and I had very little pain. Very little! You said 1+1=3, and that was so true. 🤗

Dr. Rosin, your videos have helped me immensely. At surgery, my surgeon bent my knee to 135 degrees. I’m at about 127 degrees, and very happy with that. I’m at 10 months post op. My question to you is, do I continue to work on the flexion? My physio had me do a passive heel slide with a strap, , and I’m still doing it faithfully, twice a day. I also do your advanced flexion exercises every other day. Is there any advantage to continuing it all, or is there a point where you stop? I would love to keep improving, or at least stay where I am. Thanks again for all of your informative videos. I have sent many people to your channel!😊

I have a left knee arthrodesis. I had a TKR of my right knee in 2012. I had a UTI diagnosed on 07/11/2024. I took ital Cipro but wasn't getting better. I went to the ER on 07/18/2024. I was in renal failure and the infection was in my blood stream. I was given an IV antibiotic that was effective for the 2 organisms that cultured out. During the hospital stay my right knee was swollen and painful. Fluid was aspirated but no organisms cultured out. I saw my orthopedic surgeon 08/23/2024 and I am going to need a revision and PICC line with antibiotics. I don't know when the surgery is going to take place but I am trying to do all I can to prepare.

I didn’t have any surface stitches after my breast reduction as my surgeon used skin glue. However, I did have a spitting stitch about 4 weeks after the surgery. I felt it in the shower. It looked like thin fishing line. I plucked it out with a sterilized tweezers and put antibiotic cream on the spot. In a few days it was all good. 🙂

Really good advice, and not only coming from an orthopedic surgeon but a former golfer. Actually the part about start with some chipping practice will not only help the healing process, but will definitely help the golf game, because as we all know everyone just wants to pound drivers. That raises your handicap, while practicing chipping will lower it. Thanks for your advice.

@thomasbritt6606
@thomasbritt6606 11 дней назад
Same here. Gel injection didn't help me at all. If you need a replacement, don't get anymore injections. You have to wait 3-6 months to have surgery. They say the injections increase the risk of an infection. That's where I'm at. My surgery is in January 2025. I hope I can make it that long!

Are you doing any stretching and strengthening exercises? If not, move mountains to do them! As this doctor emphasizes, one may not expect good outcomes without doing as much as possible to make your muscles strong before surgery. Cartilage and bone DO respond to targeted activity - check out the video 'How to strengthen your cartilage' by a Belgian surgeon. He has done a very good video that explains the biological structures of cartilage and bone and how each part responds to certain actions done on a regular basis.

You are such a wealth of information! I have a question. Is it up to the surgeon how the wound is closed? I know you use stitches and my orthopedic doctor used staples on my TKR. Is there a difference? Thanks so much and have a wonderful weekend!
@dradamrosen
@dradamrosen 12 дней назад
most doctors use stitches to close the joint, called the capsule. Next we close the layers below the skin, this is typically with sutures. These are the ones that typically spit. The skin can be closed with staples, sutures or glue.

Thank-You so much for this video Dr Rosen. I am a retired nurse and even though i thought i knew what to expect from tkr surgery the actual going through it post op was awful. I am now 2 months past it and working hard at PT 2x week. Definitely felt down in the dumps from the pain and having to depend on family for so much help in the early days post op. Your suggestions are so accurate! Breathing, getting outside, even if it's only in the yard, not isolating, trying to eat well even if there's not much appetite. Not taking long naps after PT because it affects sleeping at night. Thank you again. It does get better but it takes time.

I had a stitch infection in the 5th week, which progressed to pseudomonas and caused a large abscess. After 5 months on oral and topical antibiotics, and being referred to a wound specialist, it healed. However, my knee replacement healing was set way back and I developed long term Ciprotoxicity from the antibiotic, Cipro. Be careful and see your surgeon immediately at any sign of infection, as I did. I am 2 years out now.

I had this problem and I was prescribed antibiotics as the wound became red and swollen. It is healing well now. Had x-ray and blood tests done and showed no signs of infection but the knee and leg very stiff. I achieved 130 flexion and 0 extension and my surgeon is pleased with my recovery. By the way I am 8 weeks post op. Thank you Dr Rosen for your valuable video.

its been 5 months since my hip screw surgery. I thought I was back to normal so I started doing situps but about 10 reps I got sudden pain in my hip joint. I couldn't move. It freaked me out because it came on so suddenly. It went away after about a minute but now I'm worried. Is that normal? I didn't even go through a full range. Only about about two inches short of elbow to knees.

Can this help when you are 11 mo po?
@dradamrosen
@dradamrosen 14 дней назад
Depends. If your flexion contracture is fixed due to scar tissue than probably not. But, if you can't extend to zero because of weakness then yes. If you rest your heel on a chair and relax your leg and it straightens all the way then you can get fully straight, which is good news. With time and exercises you could work on the strength of your quad to get it to fire. Check with your doc to make sure there is no other nerve issue that is impacting your recovery.
