I had a 2020 GT 10speed automatic and traded it in because it was boring to me after a while. Now I just got a 2024 GT manual and oh man I’m loving it! I’ve had a lot of manuals and I got to say this is one of the best. The clutch is a little heavy but the shifts are perfect. Enjoy

Put your interior in and get the car running again. It is a lot more fun if you can drive it and use it to get to work and do errands. If it just collects dust and takes up a garage spot, the rest of the family won't support it. It goes downhill from there once the family is against it.

Unfortunately I'm not in your city. I would love to give you a hand with this. 1 gallon of mineral spirits and a cheap storage container makes a good parts cleaner. They come with a cover so you can store it when not in use. Feel the top of the cylinder bore for a wear ridge from the top piston ring. IMHO you have to remove the ridge if you're replacing the rings, Your new rings will possibly contact it if not and break the ring land on the piston. @drorangelight3179 is correct, I'd have a machine shop hone the cylinders.

I know it's no budget, but you're obviously gonna have to spend some $ on a gasket kit, balancer (stock replacement thru Summit around 90$), new head bolts, I wouldn't reuse stock ones. Not sure if you need lifters, I'm not there to check them. Can always take to a reputable engine shop and have them look at em, or put an ad on FB or CL see if any Ford guys in area will help you out so as to not get taken advantage of. I'm sure there's plenty of folks nearby more than willing to help, but ya gotta put yourself out there, folks can't help if they don't know. Any of the other bolts should be fine, just clean em up. You're doing just fine, only advice is, get yourself out there socially, either online, or go to all the car shows you can, talk to people. I absolutely guarantee you, there are people that WILL help you, show them what you got going on, you're new to it, and could use some guidance. Car guys get it and they'll help.
@wheeldmedia
@wheeldmedia Месяц назад
Yea, I’ll definitely have to buy the basic stuff like you said. I already have new lifters too. I agree, I’ll definitely have to talk to some more people and there have been several to offer help that I may just have to take them up on. Thanks for the support!
@informative_walrus
@informative_walrus Месяц назад
I know it's a budget rebuild but the time and effort is worth some speed parts or at least some gasket matching. The E7 head is a known choke point so even just the small stuff like grinding the thermactor bump in the exhaust port and gasket matching the intake, just basic stuff, no complex bowl work and a aftermarket cam and you should be able to pick up a very cheap 50hp. You have gone this far, so for the cost of a few burrs, cartridge rolls and a cam can really pep it up. The 5.0 responds really well to upgrades that help it breathe.
@drorangelight3179
@drorangelight3179 Месяц назад
Great progress on the teardown so far! I'd honestly recommend taking the block to a machine shop to get it honed tho, its a big gamble to take if you DIY it. Honing isnt super expensive at a shop and gives you peace of mind your rings will seat properly. Should be like $20 per cylinder or something..

I would suggest creating a story board of how you want to attack your build. Break your story board into Interior, drive train, paint and body etc... For me it helped organize my project and gave me a road map of what I envisioned for my build. Seeing it written down and attacking it systematically helped with keeping the enthusiasm up and gave me inspiration as I completed smaller task. Keep up the good work! I will start to show soon.

It’s a convertible, but I’m gonna be using the white one because it’s more a storage car than a convertible because of. it takes half the storage way and if this is going to be a daily, it ain’t gonna have that half storage I need as much storage as I can get if I’m ever gonna go driving around and go to vacation or do anything like that. but hope you like the experience don’t die😂😂😂 kidding but you have a good day

Can we stop romanticizing manuals already? It's a more difficult way to drive slower. I live in a city, there is absolutely 0 benefit to driving a manual. Stop telling everyone to buy a manual, it doesn't even make sense for everyone to do so and it doesn't give you ANY benefit other than "less likely to be stolen".
@wheeldmedia
@wheeldmedia 2 месяца назад
“Benefits” are as subjective as your opinion and mine lol. I’ve never heard of anyone buying a manual for its benefits. Secondly, anyone who loves driving manual cars KNOWS that you do not buy them because they’re faster. You cannot outshift an auto, ESPECIALLY the 10 speed. This entire review I talk about engagement and fun, which are the main reasons I personally would buy a manual. You live in a city, so a manual probably wouldn’t be the best decision for YOU. But that’s not the case for me and many other people. This mainly for people who are on the fence or are worried about the MT82. I never said it was for everyone because I don’t think it is. But i stand by everything I said. This video is an opinion lol lighten up. P.S. - I think manuals are still more fun. So buy the manual, or don’t. 😉

Nice content, very well done. 1. Suggest you not get distracted with interior, body, Trans and wheels/tires. Focus on getting it running. When it does, it will motivate you to finish other stuff, one step at a time. 2. Get a white board and dry erase markers. Write everything you need to get engine running. Draw a line through stuff you finish. Leave it on the board, it will motivate you! This is a journey, not a destination, it is supposed to be fun, enjoy it. Buy several size boxes of freezer bags, and use them. 3. Take tons of photos with your phone. Be sure to use permanent markers to write what the parts are, I used dry erase markers once, and washed off my description. If you haven't bought lifters yet check out Ford FFRP M-6500-R302H. (Summit, LMR etc.) There are better lifters, and more expensive lifters, but these are pretty good. In most cases you can install them without pulling your heads. (Be very confident that your cam is not already damaged). I suggest you drain your oil, purchase a oil filter cutter, cheap on Amazon. Check for any metal. If you are clean, yea, your cam and bearings are probably good. Throw in lifters, lower and upper. Adjust rockers, hopefully home free!

"Do I think it's an uphill battle for women getting out here sometimes? Yeah absolutely" What uphill battle? No one is keeping anyone from doing what they want. Now women might get less help than they used to, but that would only be because they have beat it over men's heads for decades that they are 'strong and independant'.
@wheeldmedia
@wheeldmedia 2 месяца назад
Well, that help you speak of is only one of the battles at times (because everyone needs help). She also never said she or other women needed help. I’d argue that there’s probably more help now than in the past and the help in the past wasn’t a lot, just as now. Let’s not act like racing isn’t a male dominated sport. Especially men full of ego. Furthermore, “no one is keeping anyone from doing what they want” and Diana is a prime example because she’s doing exactly what she wants. She never expressed that anyone was keeping her from doing anything. She did express however, that most women “are not trying to prove a point.” They just wanna have fun like we do. One of the battles could be as simple as getting more women involved, because women aren’t normally interested in racing cars. There’s definitely more than just needing someone’s help. Which again, she never asked for. Regardless of how you feel about what women “might get less help” doing or what you assume isn’t a battle for them, I’ll always take Diana’s experience over anyone’s assumption.

I’m on the same boat with my 79 notch, my condition of shell is similar. I think it’s best to do a coyote swap & then fix the interior. You’ll be investing as much into building a 302 just to get bolts on when you can swap to a coyote, the swap will be making the car perform new & make it faster as it is a lighter chassis.
@wheeldmedia

Yea, coyote swap is the eventual goal, but rebuilding this one with the same parts is considerably less. Now whether it works or not is another question but, I’m down lol

I want the manual for the GT because right now I’m in the market for a 2024 but I’m kinda wanting the dark horse because of the tremec vs the MT82 and I keep seeing people seeing that higher rpm shifts the MT lockouts out or is harder to get into gear but I didn’t know about this until I started looking. Now I would be happy with a GT premium performance pack one because idk why a mustang wouldn’t come factory with brembos but I’m used to it as my STI came factory with 6 pot brembos and I love how they perform.
@wheeldmedia
@wheeldmedia 2 месяца назад
The tremec in the DH is 100% a better trans and I haven’t even driven it yet. There’s plenty of people who have that would recommend it over the MT82. I think for most people, the MT82 is fine. It’s still a fun car to drive and is improved from the previous gen. It’s not perfect, but it’s better. I myself would like a DH, but they’re really expensive right now lol. If you want the BEST performance, the DH is the way to go, but this the GT premium is still a VERY fun car if you ask me and I’d still be happy with it. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I was in between normal, sport, and track. I think I should have also mentioned that this particular car had over 120k miles on it and I’m unsure of its previous life before I drove it.
