haha wow that is a huge topic to discuss... it's honestly a MASSIVE rabbit hole that involves the entire history of radio broadcast processing etc. But lemme think about that and see if I can figure out a way to do something on the idea. I've been unfortunatly super busy with normal life so I've had to put all video stuff on a back burner. But in short to answer your question, we're not using it really. It's quite heavy handed usually and it's quite difficult to setup in a controlled and non-OTT way at least for my taste. I've been personally more obsessed with developing a master chain that mimics Serban's style and I started making a video on that topic so maybe I can touch on this aspect there.
@@SatishKumar-yv3ke haha I count on that. That’s where all the information comes from of course thanks to John. But yeah it’s a massive rabbit hole as well.
I see what you mean about the "Band in the box" feeling you can get from this type plugin especially if all out sound design is what you want from this. For me though, this is great for us preset composers making production cues with no real interest in sound designing patches. I can manipulate the presets and make them my own to the point of them being totally unrecognizable but without actually going down the rabbit hole of getting into sound design. Perfect for writing library production music or music for TV or trailers without spending too much time making sounds. I think they were aiming to tap into both worlds without making the plugin totally out of reach money wise.
Well said. I think that's totally correct. To me it's like a more modular and customizable Nexus in a way. If you DO want to sound design with it, you can. But if you just want great sounds and to tweak from there, great. I find myself doing both.
To me it's mostly about the attitude. I'm not so sure it actually IS the future, but I appreciate the "out of the box" thinking with it. I might have to do another video on it someday because it's been developing a lot since I last checked it out.
I’ll be honest I never spent tonss of time with Gullfoss cuz I never really got into it that much and didn’t wanna chalk up the $$ since I already had Soothe. I get what the appeal is, but just not my cup of tea. From what time I spent with it, it definitely couldn’t get squash/compress or very extremely alter sounds. It was more like a spectral rebalance tool to usually help on the mix buss. Bloom on the other hand can achieve OTT like settings if you want, you can really change the characteristics of sounds quite drastically if you want. But with more subtle settings it can behave sort of like Gullfoss but just with way more flexibility. Now that the plugin is out, you can try a demo or check out other videos of people showcasing it. I’m making a video where I show how I use it.
Yeah I feel ya heh. In an ideal world, I would have brought some sort of thing to record the output but as this was my first time at NAMM I didn’t even think that far ahead lol. The plugin should be coming out fairly soon 🤞 so there will be plenty examples then. I’m gonna do a full sort of breakdown of it at that point. I couldn’t show a lot of detail of the plugin itself either per their request because it’s still in Beta. But yeah I wish I had brought some sort of mixer setup with me in hindsight. I think they would have let that happen.
@@partlysimpson5154if you check the video description, there’s a link to my songwriter Spotify page that has some of the stuff I’ve written/produced listed there. My SoundCloud has the house music side of things that I used to do.
Appreciate that seriously... I tried to ask questions that I knew he probably wouldn't usually get. He probably got a slew of all the same questions 10 times through out that day lol.
Naw… there are lots of those types of spectral/equalizer tools out there, like Gulfoss. Bloom is definitely not that. Soothe is closer to those I’d say. Bloom shares some underlying philosophy that’s similar for sure, but it’s not the same. If it was, it would be fairly redundant to have 2 Soothe like plugins in the same company. With Bloom you can achieve effects similar to OTT, but without the exaggerated expansion/upwards comp. Or more broad and subtle “tone shaping”. You can in theory achieve some similar effects with other tools when being subtle, but not really when you got to the “squash” mode.
This synth is not top 5. It is top 1, maybe co-king with phase plant (when in version platinium). Then come Falcon, Serum, Spire, Hive, Diva, Dune, Current, Twin, Pigments, all awesome synths. But if there was only one. It would be between phase plant and Avenger.
They definitely have one. I just googled “Avenger 2 Synth User Manual” and it was the first hit on Google. I don’t think I can link it here in the comment. I’ll try….. downloads.vengeance-sound.com/products/Avenger/Manuals/VPS_Avenger_Manual_English_1.8.4.pdf
go to your Expansions folder and delete the second factory content 1 and then re-download the factory content 2 from your account and after it is downloaded import it via drag & drop into avenger. This should do the trick.
hahah... I was watching that dude Destiny debate Ben Shapiro a while ago and had to put it in half speed cuz they both talk a billion miles an hour, but it just made them sound wasted. Lol... also sometimes I forget the speed change is on and get very confused why the content sounds crazy.
I 'm also new to Avenger and I've just stepped over to BitWig. I still love Ableton. I also feel like modulation now happens in the DAW. At least you can keep track of all parts that are modulated.
Got turned onto Block Head by a good friend. It was a insta buy. Been having so much fun fucking shit up! Cant wait to see what else is in store! I love rendering out VCV Rack jams then importing them in to Block Head and destroying shit!
That’s dope and I think totally the right attitude to have with basically any type of new audio tool. Just having fun with it and seeing how you can break the norms. I love trying to break plugins when I first get them. Just to see how far you can push em. Same for DAWs. 🤘
Heh… well, by the nature of it still being in alpha, the whole point is to experiment with it. You seem to imply this is a competition hmm 🤔? It’s clearly not a DAW that’s trying to be most other DAWs, which is interesting. In my lifetime I’ve used (in chronological order): GarageBand, Reason, ProTools, Logic, Ableton, BitWig, Blockhead. So it’s not uncommon to explore new options. That’s partially what for many people keeps things fresh and interesting ✌️But I appreciate you voicing your pass. It’s valid.
there called Workstations, korg and roland and Yamaha have the hardware versions, for those people in bar bands and covers bands. I think they have a lot of the 1 finger playing presents for all the people that suddenly come back from Coachella or Tomorrowland and assume they can be an edm producer overnight,
There's a reason why you can Initialize everything and start with a blank canvas. It's a creative tool . Regards the sequences that come with it . They're just a starting point that can be edited and reprogrammed to something completely different. Avenger is a beast .
Totallyyy. And yeah I guess you could categorize it as a "workstation", but it's def not market like that. It's marketed more like serum etc IMO. I don't care if the synth has 10,000 player piano EDM presets heh, as long as those are then also backed up by at least an equal amount of regular presets. My gripe with the new update is that it's pretty thin on the regular ones.
@@boomshakalaka7615 Agreed it's a great synth. And I don't care if there are a million one finger jams on it or demo tracks, as long as it comes with a half decent amount of regular presets, which the new update kinda falls short on. That's my gripe about the presets on this new update specifically.
@@nicostadi your totally right. Like most things the first few presets they go way overboard and then you have to see if the product within is usable in its simplest form. I have serum and sylenth but I do like some of the tones this comes out with . Just would never use the kareoke setting of one button backing tracks haha
Nico!!!! I’m going to email you. Are you still in LA? I just moved this year. We wrote a few songs back at APG. Do you still have the same contact? If so, I’ll shoot you an email so we can link.
@@nicostadi Also if you hate activating the note quantize on each osc, simply map them to a modulation to trigger on/off for all. Sucks that you can't map the Arp on/off though.
Great demonstration / video edits and cool to see your sound design approach. I agree with the pros / cons, update wasn't life changing but the audio previews are convenient and Generative 1 is my favorite expansion to date. What are your Top 5 synths?
Hey thanks a ton for that great feedback 🥲🙏I def wanna check out some of the new packs for sure! Thanks for the hint on Gen 1. And I agree on the previews 🤘 forgot to mention those. Finally got my Factory 2 library up and running thanks to the support email so I’m gonna be diving into those properly. So props on them for great response on that. My current top 5 would be prob pretty standard in alphabetical order: Avenger, Diva, Omnisphere, Phase Plant, Serum. But I’d have to include the entire Roland Cloud in there even though it’s not one synth just because of the amount I use them all.
Much appreciated! With your line up of EXP's and sound design chops Gen 1 might be redundant. Glad they could give direct support, a lot better than navigating their FB (tech support central). I'll definitely check out the Roland Cloud / Phase Plant...stuff of legends 🙏
At the moment I see it as a good audio editor due to its flexibility, but far from a DAW to produce an entire song or work seriously. I mean, what worries me is that I don't see anything really "new" or "revolutionary", outside of the particular tempo (which in fact is nothing that you can't do in others like Reaper and even program it to work like that), and the waveform changed in real time is the only "cool thing", but Irrelevant what I need is only the audio, at least on a professional level the aspects most important ones that one would look for are non-existent. Maybe if it were a plugin I would bet on it, but 3 years of work to do what others have been doing for decades without a problems... mmm... Maybe it will surprise me in the future, but for the moment I see it only as a possible complement.
Being that it’s very light on features I think it’s hard to even “push” any limits. I certainly didn’t even for a second think about that. But I’m sure there’s a plethora of ways to make it crash in alpha lol
