Fishing from all around the UK - Based in the North East of England, my primary passions are kayak fishing for anything and everything in the sea, in particular cod, pollock and bass, plus fly fishing for trout and spinning from the shore for most of the above. I have also been known to chuck the odd boilie at an arrogant carp or a handful of maggots at fish I don't understand. I love my kayak and I love my fishing. I make these films because I get a lot of joy from my angling and I'd like to share that joy with you. Chris
Another awesome video. Quickly becoming my favourite channel on RU-vid. I'd love to see a video walk through of what gear you use for us beginners who are totally new to kayak fishing! All the best mate
Hello, im really enjoying your videos, could you tell me the “approximate” cost of your kayak + motor, and any other “hidden” costs I may encounter, I’m really interested in this set up. Or could you point me in the direction of a reputable dealer you can recommend please
Hi mate, new the kayak and the motor would cost roughly £1400 I think. Then you’ll need a battery (50ah liFePO4) at about £200 or so. After that it’s your safety gear again new a drysuit could be £300-£500 plus pdf about £60 then a vhf at around £80 upwards. Fishfinder £150-however much you want to spend on it. It’s quite an outlay if you go brand new. You can spend a lot more as well if you go for the premium brands like Hobie etc! The cheapest way to do it is to buy used as you can often get a complete set up with everything you need for about £1000 - less if you’re lucky. Facebook marketplace is a good place to look. Hope that helps/hasn’t put you off! 👍🎣
Well, that was a good haul in the end despite the variations in sea, sun, wind etc! Weather has been pretty bad, and not much happening from the beach either. Will look at that Berkeley Gulp, looked worth a try. Best wishes, Kevin
Hi Kevin mate, hope you’re well. It was a testing day! Thing about days like that though, even a 1 1/2 lb codling gets you grinning from ear to ear!! 🤣 Tight lines mate 👍🎣
Another great vid. Really makes me want to get out again soon. I really appreciate that you always talk about the depth, speed of drift, and lure weight. It really helps with my own fishing.
Thanks mate, I’m glad you’re finding the content useful. The weather has been a real pain again this year hasn’t it! Hopefully we’ll get a settled spell soon! 🤞🎣
First time watcher! Really enjoyed that! And your infectious chuckle. I was there just the other week talking to a fella going out on his kayak. I didn’t know you can get a motor for them?! Looks an expensive set up….what are you talking roughly if you don’t mind?!
Hey Darren mate, I’m glad you enjoyed the vid. So when you’re setting yourself up it’s important to remember you need your safety kit as well - a drysuit, pfd and VHF radio as a minimum. Just my kayak and the motor new would be around £1500 but then you’d need a battery and the safety kit. The best budget friendly way to get into it is to look around (Facebook marketplace etc) for a used set up. You can get pretty much everything you need for around £800 or maybe less if you’re lucky. Obviously some set ups will be more than that depending on the brand. Hope that helps 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing that’s great info cheers…..so definitely dry suit over wet suit….i know how cold that water gets….thanks again, might be my retirement hobby 😎👍
Yes drysuit over wetsuit - so much easier to get on and off plus you’re completely dry and comfortable from the neck down. Top tip, get one with a relief zip! (Pee zip) 👍
First time here, thoroughly enjoyed your video, as a man who has only ever fished from South Shields pier and beach, I’m fascinated at my first sight of your wee boat, looks brilliant and quick too, I’ll be back ! Thank you
Thanks mate, I’m glad you enjoyed it. There’s loads of vids on the channel for you to get through (about 70 I think!) This was a very quiet day on the kayaks, there’s usually a lot more fish around. Thanks for watching and tight lines 👍🎣
Good to see you back on the yak even though it was hard going. Good you got that wrasse as well as a few codling. Till next video Chris, tight lines. Arthur
Used to fish the "Empire " mark many years ago. Really rough ground but always plenty of cod to be had there. Seeing you fishing this area brings back memories.
Aye it’s a great stretch on its day. Not been so good last couple of years but still has its moments. It was fish a drop all day every day 20/21 seasons. 👍🎣
im from sunderland i love mackerel fishing i normally go to the roker pier but it full of polish people and chinese people they like to go around asking people for a bit of mackerl they are no bother at all it just they dont clean up after them selfs etc alcohol cans and bin bags but i love my hobby so do your videos u earned a new sub 🎉
Thanks for the sub mate it’s much appreciated. The piers have always been a bit of a mess in the summer haven’t they, as far back as I can remember. It’s only a few who don’t tidy up after themselves but it makes everyone look bad. Is Roker open? I thought you couldn’t get on at the mo due to the repairs. Tight lines mate 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing it still closed unfortunately mate as storm babi took it down theres always other places etc the marina and the jetty i still go to , and yes it makes the city look bad as well when people are littering all over the palce but i take my pride and joy in fishing for mackerel but i have never tried to catch cod on lures iv caught a little squid on a spinner and some sand eels and 1000s of mackerel in my life time lol , tight lines bud 🙂
I know, it’s the sea temperature without a doubt - the mackerel this year are the same size as the ones you get year round on the south and west coasts. We usually get the bigger ones heading down from further north in the summer 🎣
@@onthedropfishing The bigger mackerel seem to have stayed further out up to now. We had some real monsters on the 3 mile wrecks last week, but as soon as we moved inside they vanished. Fingers crossed for at least a spell of warmer weather.
Great video, I was going to go out yesterday at Runswick but it’s rubbish weather at the moment this Friday looks better, I’m looking forwards to testing out my new Garmin. What yak are you using?👍🐟
Just out of hospital after a long stay. Watching your videos puts a smile on my face. I love your enthusiasm and joyfullness for fishing is fantastic. Many Thanks Chris
I hope you’re feeling better Chris mate, I’m glad you enjoyed the vid. Hopefully get out a lot more when this weather settles. Fingers crossed anyway! 🤞. Tight lines pal 🎣
@@onthedropfishingMostly sea fishing, I actually fished off the rocks at port Logan after watching your channel. Caught a few but would be nice to get out on the water.
You need something over 12 foot long for the sea really. There are often full used set ups on FB Marketplace which have all your safety gear as well. If you buy new remember you will also need a vhf - a floatation device and a drysuit etc. 👍🎣
It is a myth I've handled 100s of mackerel and never have I lost one every single one has swam off no problem great video m8, ps I'm still in 2 minds to get that motor for my kayak
Yeah the Norwegians tagged thousands of fish to test the theory and they were being caught months later and hundreds of miles away proving that they're no more vulnerable than other species when it comes to handling 🎣
Just subscribed love your videos mate .. not gonna lie scared to Kayak myself .. land lover me. But it’s great to see fish so close to shore I might be able to target
Thanks for the sub John it’s much appreciated. You’d be surprised how close to the shore the fish come. I think if more people lure fished close in they’d be quite surprised at the numbers. Tight lines matey 👍🎣
Hi Chris, I absolutely love these videos and love the yak reviews, but have you got a review on the motor and how you've set it up, or even a quick video showing the setup of it because I'm going to but the Sturgeon fx next month aswell as the motor so was wondering if you've got any videos or if you could do a video on it. Keep up the work 💪
Hi mate, I'm glad you're enjoying the content. I have done the motor in one of the vids but can't for the life of me remember which one! It's super easy though - I extended the cables with a couple of butt connectors and self amalgamating tape from Halfords and keep the battery in my box behind the seat. That's it really - no drilling or cutting for me. Hope that helps and tight lines 👍🎣
Thanks mate! I’m glad you’re enjoying the content. There’s plenty there to keep you going if you’re new to the channel and an upload tomorrow night. Tight lines 👍🎣
They haven't provided the correct seat for this kayak, it seems they've just 'made do' with a seat from another model. The seat fits into the runners at the front but there are no runners at the back- why is this? Also there are adjustable straps on each corner of the seat but nowhere for them to strap to?
There are no runners at the back on this one mate plus the seat wouldn’t fit the front runners if it wasn’t the supernova seat - I know this as I took the sturgeon fx seat by accident once and it’s not wide enough. Sounds like you do have the correct seat there. Tight lines 👍🎣
Hi mate, thanks very much I'm glad you're enjoying the content. Where are you going to be fishing would be the first question. If you are going to be at sea and could stretch to the Sturgeon FX that would be better in my opinion because of the extra length 👍🎣
I mainly fish the lakes down here in cumbria, but i would fenture out to sea if the kayak was up to it, but ill look for a stureon fx now youve put me right, thanks very much chris for the advice, happy fishing pal
Hi Robert, the Drysuit is the Typhoon PS330 Extreme and as you probably know this is the wildcat kayak. I really like this, I still have one here. The only reason I’m not using it at the moment is because I’ve done my hamstring in so am on the Sturgeon with the motor! 👍🎣
Chris is that the 24lbs thrust motor u have on that kayak? Is that the sturgeon fx ? If so can you do a video on how you have done the connections etc and how you have wired it up please, I've now had to give up due to my back but I'm looking at that motor but put off by the clamp on connections shown on the website, there's no write up about it either on the galaxy website, so would love to see an in depth video of how you have done things if possible many thanks
Hi Darren mate, it’s dead simple just extend the cable with a couple of butt connectors and an inline fuse from Halfords and that’s it! Wrap the connections in self amalgamating tape to waterproof them. (You get that from Halfords as well) I keep the battery in the box behind my seat 👍🎣
