Hi there, my name is Kevin, and I make history and discussion videos about video games and interactive media. Learn about the why's and wherefore's of video game history as I tackle a wide variety of topics, from Dark Souls to SimCity. If that sounds like a good time, then consider subscribing.
I consider this game to be a classic. However, I believe that RE3 is the best game of the series. And for me personally the best game ever made. Why I consider 3 to be superior? Well, first of all it had a lot more locations. The legendary clock tower and graveyard, the park and the hospital were just awesome locations that made us explore much more parts of the city, and we know what Raccoon City looks like because of RE3. The cut scenes were much better in 3 than in 2. With a lot more action and fluid motion, where 2 was a bit bold and stiff looking. The music in 2 was great, but the music in 3 was so much more bombastic and sounded even better than movie tracks like in Halloween Or Hellraiser. Also, Nemesis is an even better and terrifying bad guy than Freddy Kruger and Jason combined. He has so much charisma, and does that charisma justice with the constant pursuit, at least in the original.. The different flash choices you had to make, really gave RE3 that extra dimension and a sense of urgency and need for fast decision making. Jill was a better character than Leon, and the choices she made, made a lot more sense. Leon gave Claire a gun (a women he had never met) and let her basically roam though the police station all by herself, a location where very sensitive, classified and privacy information is being stored. Clair and Leon both walk through and around the same police station and underground Umbrella facility during the same time, yet he seems only concerned with himself or Ada Wong. He actually leaves Claire Redfield and Sherry Birkin to their fate, even though as a police officer that should be your first priority. Even when they meet in between, he doesn't really propose to work and stay together, but instead he gives her a walkie-talkie and, you figure it out by yourself! His whole story is full of these kind of questionable decisions. Only towards the end where they meet at the train does he play the role of a hero. Then there is the assumption that part 3 is less difficult than part 2. And that is really nonsense. The only reason people think this is the case is because they've completed it many times, unlocking weapons and unlimited ammo, and also knowing how to make the different types of ammo. But if you play RE3 for the first time on Hard Mode, it is 100% definitely harder than RE2. The boss fights are also more difficult in part 3. Where you could still avoid the Tyrants and other creatures because they were slow, the Nemesis is much faster than you, and also more deadly. If you don't know what you're doing, he'll be done with you very quickly. Don't get me wrong, because I still think part 2 is a very good game, but I just think part 3 is more than legendary. The puzzles are also responsible for this. And the fact that you get to know the Umbrella mercenaries, and experience firsthand how far they go and what kind of bastards they are. That they even use and fool their own soldiers. And if you paid close attention in part 3, you will discover that all the soldiers were murdered one by one by Nicolai. Also those found in the park. Ans seeing the ultimately sad fate of Raccoon City... It's fine if you're more into RE2, and love that game very much. But objectively speaking, RE3 is simply the better game.
Tank controls is not an argument or criticism, even outside the RE franchise as well. Cuz if it was big issue, then the series wouldn't have spanned 6 solid installments with strong following and success with a huge fanbase even back then.
I think it is so funny that the bureau may have the most batshit insane 4th-wall-plottwist I've ever seen in a video game but at the same time, most people will never experience it, because it is hidden in a mediocre spin-off game
I would love a new X-Com Interceptor type game or a small fleet tactics XCom but I doubt either will happen any time soon if ever unfortunately. It seems like a Terror From the Deep successor is next and I'm not sure how I feel about that if it comes since IMO Terror from the Deep was the worst of the first three games in the franchise.
Resident Evil 4 actually became two different games, one was DMC which you mentioned, but at another stage of development development it was also spun off/turned into Haunting Ground. The dog you can save in RE4 is a reference or easter egg to the dog that accompanies you throughout Haunting Ground
Remember when Bureau was announced, that we the fans called it bad because it wasnt anything tactical? The response at the time was basically "sorry long time fans, but today only FPSs sell". Then Firaxis XCOM came by and The Bureau got reworked as a cover shooter with abilities, out of shame.
RIP Sim City & Maxis. You were loved. Sim City 2013 was a great game, but once Cities Skylines showed us what we were missing, there was no turning back. Would still love to see EA revive Maxis & Sim City and give us a proper sequel to Sim City 2013
Xcom 3 should be inspired by Terror from the Deep. At the ending of 2, there is that psionic void in the ocean which made me think this could be a hint of alien life spawning from the depths of the ocean. Even after Chimera squad, it could have taken some time until the aliens are enough and ready to strike again.
Fuck you Jake Solomon you got my soldier killed with your shitty coding... In all seriousness, that man deserves all the credit in the World. XCOM: Enemy Within is a masterpiece that will stand forever.
I will say that StarCraft remastered was really impressive to me, it somehow captured what my mind IMGAINED everything looked like back when I was a kid, being able to zoom in and actually see units in detail was so damn cool.
ahh the good old days back when blizzard could do no wrong back before they utterly ruined their image in my eyes with wow starcraft brood war all three warcraft games and their expansions where games i played near endlessly and loved hell starcraft 64 is probably my second most played game ever lol but yeah just sucks good blizzard died with the frozen throne but at least we got starcraft remastered....
17:44 "that many thought could be refined: Time units, large squads, and random procedurally drawn maps..." Those are the three things that I am looking for in a game. I thoroughly miss time units. I hate the tiny squads of XCOM Enemy Unknown (which is a pretty good game).
The organisational structure of the almost self-critiquingly named "cabal" is an example of using sort of socialist, democratic organisational principles to capitalist ends. To these days, Valve uses similar practices according to its employee handbook.
i still play X-com Ufo Defence ( UFO : Enemy Unknown) and Terror from the deep, Apocalypse didnt play it trough. Interceptor, it was ok. 2000 versions..awesome. Xenonauts..well..nope for me. ty for this vid. total Xcom Fan since 1996.
