Resident Evil 2 - 20th Anniversary History Retrospective 

To this day, RE2 is my favorite in the series and the soundtrack and atmosphere is still top-notch. Even though I kinda enjoyed the first movie (only because it didn't really have any ties to the story of the games), I would've loved to see Romero's script come to the big screen, even if there were some things I didn't like about his version.

great video. Shows that Capcom valued quality over reaching a deadline by scraping the 1.5 game at 70% completion. I have heard other statements it was closer to 80% complete when it was scraped. I do find 1.5 interesting but I am very happy they did that and we received re2 as it is today.

Just a random fact about the N64 port of RE2 that the video doesn't mention: Angel Studios, who made the N64 port of the game, would later go on to work on another game with Capcom called Red Dead Revolver. Angel and Capcom disagreed on the direction the game should take, and Capcom wanted out. So the rights to Red Dead Revolver were sold to Rockstar (Capcom would maintain Japanese distribution and profits from the title), who ended up buying Angel Studios and renaming it to Rockstar San Diego, the studio that would eventually go on to make Red Dead Redemption

Great video Resident Evil 2 is one of my favorite games in the franchise I love all the games of Resident Evil Shinji Mikami did a wonderful job with the franchise I just hope the Resident Evil 2 remake gets released soon I hope we hear something good.

My favorite game

The PlayStation 1 was the first non Nintendo console I ever owned. I got for Christmas of 98 and still remember going to toysrus in early 99 looking for a new ps1 game. I saw that cover art and it scared the crap out of me so I had to get. I would never play it unless my dad was around or I had my friends over lol. It’s hard to believe that 1999 was 22 years ago.

To me this is the best game ever made. I remember the chills i had playing this.

Very good work though I have to make a point that Koshi Nakanishi is the actual director of RE7 while Takeuchi was the producer. Regardless, great stuff nonetheless, and subbed.

Kamiya as director means we would have a more one to one remake. Nonetheless, I am satisfied with the re imagined version of the game and while it is not as good as the OG RE2, it certainly is number two for me, and deservedly so. Over time, games can grow on someone after playing it through many a times.

In the aftermath of this video, I think news has broken with leaked info that the RE2 remake will be out late this year, made in the style of RE4 with over-the-shoulder camera. I sure hope that is true.

The first three are my favorite. They all deserve a remake. Shit, I am down for an RE: Survivor (Gun Survivor) remake. That game is fuckin' fun. I think they need to stop pandering to future fans and give the fans that have been riding this wagon since '96 some love. GUARANTEED cash cow right there.

I like RE1, RE3, RE2, RE0 and CV in that order. I also enjoyed RE2remake a lot.

RE Code Veronica X is the first RE I played all the way through and really invested myself in. It was back in college and I rented it for the PS2. It remains my favorite!

The original Resident Evil Trilogy is my favorite games hands down

I consider this game to be a classic. However, I believe that RE3 is the best game of the series. And for me personally the best game ever made. Why I consider 3 to be superior? Well, first of all it had a lot more locations. The legendary clock tower and graveyard, the park and the hospital were just awesome locations that made us explore much more parts of the city, and we know what Raccoon City looks like because of RE3. The cut scenes were much better in 3 than in 2. With a lot more action and fluid motion, where 2 was a bit bold and stiff looking. The music in 2 was great, but the music in 3 was so much more bombastic and sounded even better than movie tracks like in Halloween Or Hellraiser. Also, Nemesis is an even better and terrifying bad guy than Freddy Kruger and Jason combined. He has so much charisma, and does that charisma justice with the constant pursuit, at least in the original.. The different flash choices you had to make, really gave RE3 that extra dimension and a sense of urgency and need for fast decision making. Jill was a better character than Leon, and the choices she made, made a lot more sense. Leon gave Claire a gun (a women he had never met) and let her basically roam though the police station all by herself, a location where very sensitive, classified and privacy information is being stored. Clair and Leon both walk through and around the same police station and underground Umbrella facility during the same time, yet he seems only concerned with himself or Ada Wong. He actually leaves Claire Redfield and Sherry Birkin to their fate, even though as a police officer that should be your first priority. Even when they meet in between, he doesn't really propose to work and stay together, but instead he gives her a walkie-talkie and, you figure it out by yourself! His whole story is full of these kind of questionable decisions. Only towards the end where they meet at the train does he play the role of a hero. Then there is the assumption that part 3 is less difficult than part 2. And that is really nonsense. The only reason people think this is the case is because they've completed it many times, unlocking weapons and unlimited ammo, and also knowing how to make the different types of ammo. But if you play RE3 for the first time on Hard Mode, it is 100% definitely harder than RE2. The boss fights are also more difficult in part 3. Where you could still avoid the Tyrants and other creatures because they were slow, the Nemesis is much faster than you, and also more deadly. If you don't know what you're doing, he'll be done with you very quickly. Don't get me wrong, because I still think part 2 is a very good game, but I just think part 3 is more than legendary. The puzzles are also responsible for this. And the fact that you get to know the Umbrella mercenaries, and experience firsthand how far they go and what kind of bastards they are. That they even use and fool their own soldiers. And if you paid close attention in part 3, you will discover that all the soldiers were murdered one by one by Nicolai. Also those found in the park. Ans seeing the ultimately sad fate of Raccoon City... It's fine if you're more into RE2, and love that game very much. But objectively speaking, RE3 is simply the better game.

The fact that Capcom rejected Romero's script and later went ahead with Anderson's simply boggles the mind.

oh it's that game again. the game that has cemented it legacy in a corner of my brain called: Trauma Childhood past section: Age-7 , the game that gave me reoccurring nightmares until the age of 18, the game that still makes me feel very jittery when i boot it on my Vita and the first 2 hours is still makes my unease and wanting me to turn it off.

The 1st Resident Evil movie was supposed to take place right b4 & during when Chris & Jill show up. That's why Alice's husband was named Spencer (to show ownership to the mansion). Its also why they focused on that statue. When Chris & Jill show up, Alice & the gang r down in the Hive. Once they release the Zombies, that's how the 1st one (w classic cut scene) ends up getting into the mansion...they're all workers from the Hive. Of course the movie is a super loose adaptation & def strayed from that...but that was the idea when making the 1st movie...as far as I understood it.

2 had the replay value but Re 3 had the new combat mechanics and Controls ..

My favorite Resident Evil is 2,it laid the foundation for the series as a whole by adding new characters connected to the previous protagonists through family or job relations.It gave us a reason to care about where our fellow protagonists from the previous entry went to and gave potential to these new characters with these connections willing to answer our questions.We are as lost as Claire and Leon when first introduced,just that brings fear and mystery to the story.After everything was said and done all 4 playable characters got solo games that were amazing in its own right.Now we just need that Barry solo game,sorry but Revelations 2 don't count.

RE4 is still the best though I was very pleasantly surprised by 7.

I always called Marvin "Will Smith" since that's what he looked like. Still my favorite RE game to this day. I remember getting it for release and staying up all night playing it let alone it's like the only game I played that month thanks to the replay factor from the scenarios. Shame they didn't keep that feature but oh well. I mean RE1 I felt had a creepier atmosphere going for it, you also had two character choices so basically two scenarios. RE2 you had a total of 4 scenarios between the two characters I think it was and 3 you just had Jill...I enjoyed 3 but compared to the other 2 I didn't play it as much.

RE2 REMAKE comes 100% but it wont be the same like RE1 Remake, fixed camera etc. dont forget that all this Legendary games are made by shinji mikami no one have this styl to make games like him..

I would bet you good money that RE2's remake won't arrive for 2018, we have no announce stuff, no screenshots, no demo's, no nothing, hell they won't even drop hints that development has been canned let alone deliver progress reports, so why would I believe ANYTHING Capcom has to say after the bullshit they pulled with RE7, E3 can go die under a rock until gaming stops dying in the gutter and gives some real proper new IP's and ideas out there. I made a bunch of 2018 gaming predictions, most won't happen, you know why? Because all the devs and publishers stopped caring about their principles and now care only for the profits, which is NOT how the industry was built or should be! We died at the end of 2016 with nothing but broken ashes remaining, 2017 was merely the insult to the corpse, you won't get quality for 2018, takes far more to break the likes of EA and Activision from stupid oversight...
