In Sweden, public buildings and constructions have to put a certain percentage of the total cost on art. It' s for all public works, not only the underground, but Undergrounds are extremely expensive, so there's quite a lot of money put away for art. One place I hope you won't have to visit is the big top modern Asylum for the Criminally Insane in the south of Stockholm. It's state of the art and very expensive so it's filled with modern art from many, many internationally recognized artists.
@herrbonk3635
@herrbonk3635 Месяц назад
Still, all the newly built buildings are uglier than ever before in history... And some 100-150 years ago, when new buildings were more beautiful than ever, this "percentage for art" was zero...
@SteamboatW
@SteamboatW Месяц назад
@@herrbonk3635 That is of course quite bs. Just because you like certain types of buildings doesn't make them more or less ugly. There have always been ugly buildings, and some have been redeemed and some are those you admire so much. They build all types of buildings today and not everyone can like every building.
@herrbonk3635
@herrbonk3635 Месяц назад
@@SteamboatW If anything, your postmodern relativism is "bs", or at least meaningless, ignorant and totally misleading. Of course, not all old buildnings were *exactly* equally tasteful or beautiful, who said they were? But they were built with a *very* different mentality (and proportions, materials, building techniques, etc.) than today. They certainly *_do not_* build all types of buildings in Sweden today... Unless you talk about a few unique recontructions, among tens of thousands in the usual nyfunkis and deconstructivist mentality... A culture revolution took place between ca 1927 and 1932. During the 1950s, this also developed into a furious propaganda war against what these people called _"sentimental"_ and _"petit bourgeois"_ "ratnests". The intention was that as much as possible of that "disgusting" cultural heritage should be torn down. Luckily however, these people soon ran out of money, so almost 70% of Stockholm survived in the end (while most small towns were not that lucky). It was an extremely close call for hundreds of beautiful buildings in Stockholm. The exact same types of buildings that now holds Sweden's most exclusive and expensive apartments... (Protests from certain culture personalities contributed as well, to put an end to this insane capital destruction.)

08:18 Begging in Sweden where there's hardly any cash isn't easy, so native homeless people usually sell their own newspaper, and accepts electronic pay solutions. Sweden is 90% cash free, so begging doesn't really work in most main areas, we have one in front of our grocery store, but actual cash to give out just isn't that common in general. Sweden is pushing pretty hard for that last bit to go 99% cash free.
@Cortaxify
@Cortaxify 25 дней назад
Yeah, the most common place I encounter beggars is outside larger department stores where they trying to talk people into giving them their bottles and soda cans instead so the beggars can use the deposit-refund system to get money for them when recycling them instead for money. This is for the simple reason that most adult peoples uses cards and phone apps to make payment in stores and don't have lost cash on themselves. I myself havent had any lose cash on me for over a decade now other then a coin or two in my car to "unlock" the shopping carts occassionally.

The "Universitetet" station used to be very pretty, like birch leaves and spring, and pengiuns somewhere ..! But it was destroyed by graffitiers, who used to break in and put tags anywhere, and after to many cleanings all the paint was just a mess, and it was redecorated with tiles that were resistant to spray colour, and could take getting cleaned repeatedly.

The subway in London is mostly very shallow. So there is little space between house foundation and the station. In Stockholm most of the stations are really deep. They are way below foundation level so they can make them much roomier. There are some stations that are very close to the surface, they are way more cramped. 3:44 you don´t need to have permission to film a music video in a public space in Sweden.. So no, they don´t have permission and they don´t need to. (security could still ask you to move if you are in the way for people or if you are blocking emergency exits, or basically pretty much any resons, but they can´t fine you) 4:35 Fridhemsplan. Peace-home-plane... or the plane of home peace. In stockholm the word plane refers to overdecking. Due to the geology and climate of Stockholm they didn´t want to make dug down entrance to stations. So they in stead make over decking where the entrance was the prior street level and the street where the cars and trucks drive was moved one story up. A lot of stockholm is made this way. That is why a lot of stores have two entrance floors. One at the old street level and one at new street level. 9:00 the begers are fake, don´t fall for it. . its basically a scam. There use to be real beggers, but the orginzied beggers, basically like a mafia organization have just removed all the real beggers. Only the fake left.

I think aesthetics and cleanliness in public spaces is one of the keys to why people in Scandinavia are at the top when it comes to happiness. I have watched several clips from US suburbs and cities. Filthy, almost completely lacking in design, dilapidated buildings and lots, poorly maintained sidewalks, etc. Such an environment is the breeding ground for misery, crime and drug abuse. I must also admit that I am a bit tired of the cliché that Swedes are grumpy and quiet. I have been to several of Europe's capitals and the people there are just as reserved as the Swedes.

I live in Sweden,and can tell you there is no need to be homeless or be a beggar, since we have extensive social programs. The beggars that appear in the trains and in the cities are professional beggars who come typically from Romania. They refuse to get regular jobs, and earn enough because of people feeling sorry for them. They are part of organized troupes and travel back and forth to Romania bringing money back and making their families well off. They are not poor and they have no need to beg.
