Are you thinking about getting into the metaverse of Epic?
What is this Electronic Health Record (EHR)?
I am here to answer all of your questions.
Greetings! My name is John Faulkner, and I am a certified Epic ClinDoc, Stork, Case Management, and Security Consultant. I am a father of three and military trained in leadership. My family is my world, and I use my passion for them to provide an unforgettable experience for you every step of the way.
I started my career after college as a teacher but soon had to pivot into a career where I had better aligned my passion for technology and helping others.

Hey John question for you. Kinda deciding between 3 majors for the epic analyst career. Information Technology, conputer science, or health information management (ahima/rhia). Which is best? Thanks 🙏
Hi I’m a licensed practical nurse trying to merge into EHR. I went to a technical college for my nursing degree so no associates or bachelors degree. Any tips ?
Hi.. I’m not able to see training modules under training home. Can you please tell me how do I get access to it. I work in a hospital which has Epic. And I was able to login into user web and go till training home.
Thanks for the tips . I’m currently working at a health care company who approved me for self study . Trying to learn cadence to get the proficiency it is kinda tough how the questions are worded on the assessments
Greetings! I am the distinguished EPIC Final Approver at the largest City Hospital, holding senior roles as a Controlled Substance Analyst and a Supply Chain Analyst. I am a certified Salesforce Administrator and developer, as well as an AWS-certified professional. Although deeply passionate about obtaining EPIC certification, my organization, unfortunately, does not sponsor individuals for this endeavor. Is there any viable avenue for me to pursue EPIC certification independently? I have experience with SAP as well. I am passionate about IT and would love to be EPIC certified.
Can just about anyone get a userweb account or do you have to be a medical professional and does the userweb account give you access to the different Epic modules to get hands-on experience using the system?
Hello John Iam working in hospital as unit clerk. They have epic software in use, can you please suggest a way how can i get certificated in epic. I have previous experience of application analyst on cerner ehr.
I’ve had several years of revenue cycle experience, using Epic and Athena. I’m currently a user acceptance tester for a health insurance company. I would love to do this , I enjoyed working with Epic .
How much do Epic Analyst make, I googled it and seen a really high number, is it really around 80K? Some reason I find that unlikely? If this is accurate, maybe I should put all my eggs in the Epic basket?
I am a LPN. I want to become epic trainer certified or informatics . I have been a LPN for 20 years. 2014-2015 I worked with a clinic that went with epic and I helped teach. For the last 7 years I have been working a ENT clinic with all scripts and it is horrible. I want to find remote jobs that I can get with having epic certification. I want to get my foot in the door but I feel like I cannot with out the certification. Can you give me advice? Thank you
Yes, I just released a DIY course where you get over $800 worth of content for free and a 30 minute session. It is a job prep course for getting Epic jobs. I interview many candidates for these roles so you get that perspective too. Please check out more details here: johnfaulkner.thrivecart.com/fast-track-your-job-search/
Hi there, Do you know if there's a difference between the self study profiency certification vs. going to EPIC Wisconsin and taking a class and test for certification? I just received access through my organization to EPIC's self study profiency guide and will be taking the test w a proctor when ready but wanted to know if there was a difference between the two tests certifications? Thank you
@JoAnnWren They are the same exam but seen differently. Self-Study usually is all virtual. Certification typically requires an in person component for attending class.
@YourEpicCoach Thank you for the quick response. When you say seen differently, do you mean that getting a role for let's say Radiant application analyst/associate wouldn't be possible unless I receive the in person component certification? Or is it totally up to the organization? I currently have EPIC Radiant user-end experience and help troubleshoot some problems within the Radiology department and just requested access for t to Radiant's self-study guide as my organization doesn't normally sponsor anyone as often for EPIC's class-led certification in Wisconsin. So, I'm trying to at least get some application-end knowledge with this certificate and hoping to receive better opportunities at landing a role down the road for another organization. I'm also taking the Google data analytics course to learn the fundamental skills in the industry. I thank you in advance for any feedback that could help my long-term career goal for growth within the industry.
@@JoAnnWren It is up to the organization. It is not a prerequisite to become an Epic Analyst. Some hospitals may want a completely new, aka 'green' team with no epic experience as an analyst but you have good clinical experience, again though, up to them. Make connections with managers and analysts on LinkedIn.
@@YourEpicCoach Thank you so much!! I'll definitely do that. I appreciate your help, and thank you for sharing your knowledge, I've been binging on them. Great information🙌
Hi I want to start my career in Epic I have 13+ years of experience as a ETL developer but I don’t know how to get into the EPIc which is really a added advantage to my career please help me out
Thank you for the video. As someone that has no IT experience but has worked with Epic daily in a patient access role. Would this be something I could find success in, considering the learning curve would be very high or is this a job that requires more experience or education in the IT field?
You're welcome! I think you need to look at your aptitude for problem solving and process for thinking technically about your approach to IT problems. If you have no IT experience, look for entry level roles that are non-Epic to get started.
I watched your entire playlist. From an overview perspective--thank you. But I would like to request more specific information regarding HOW to use epic. If you can create a lab or video that shows people how to use it as if this were a live environment -- that would be extremely valuable.
Thanks for this video. It outlined a lot of the things someone needs to know and how to get started. One of my biggest questions is contract negotiations. What can you recommend on proceeding with negotiating the best contract?
Hey John, glad I found your content. I am a nurse and transitioning to a new role to become an Epic credentialed trainor as a major hospital here in CT. I wanted to know if you had an tips for this role. The hiring manager stated Id be working in conjunction with Epic Analysts. Could you describe how they collaborate in a day to day setting? Thank you!
Typically, 15-20 minutes. They will want to see how to follow the script, explain key points in workflow, how you present the information and do not be afraid to pause during it, not a race!
I have a healthcare background but have been out of my field for about a year. Is my only option for getting my foot in the door to pretty much just try to get on with a consulting firm?
@@YourEpicCoach I've tried this whole time to get into a hospital but no one will give me the time of day. I have 6 years experience in the lab so I'm trying to get into a Beaker role. My problem is that I'm currently not working in healthcare because I moved to a small rural area and the jobs for my field are slim to none
what is an epic analyst? what do they actually do? are they just a data analyst? do you modify the UI? do you setup the menu systems and the input and output fields and format? i'm having a really hard time getting anything more than just a vary basic vague description. i do have background in coding, databases, GIS, IT, troubleshooting, etc...
They build the Epic Electronic Health Record for hospitals that purchase the product from Epic out of Verona, Wisconsin. We modify user interfaces, improve workflows in the system, layout of buttons and documentation. Source code changes is not part of what we do. That is owned by Epic. We help hospitals with the out of the box software/licenses they purchase and then customize it for them with feedback from the hospital staff that uses it to document patient care. Hope that helps clarify, if not, let me know!
@@YourEpicCoach i've seen a few people say they "build" the record. somehow i don't think that term is being used correctly and descriptively. building a record to me would mean adding the data, doing the input, but that is not what an analyst does. EPIC is out of the box, so someone else coded it as you noted. but you are saying there is customization, ok good, so modifying user interface is part of it. i take it then you are defining the elements (the cells, the variables) of the database, its structure? or has that also already been done primarily by EPIC? and adding to it and changing it as management and doctors, etc require. so you have research scientist, doctors, financial people of the hospitals etc who need you to pull data and organize it in ways that is presentable and useful for them to see patterns and trends? add things to screens to get more information from the people on the ground inputting data about patients so as to get more research? .. ok so then workflows .. i.e. the ease of inputting the information into the system by the nurses, etc... i.e automating requests that are often repeated... are you working primarily in with "clarity" then? do you ever get into "chronicles"?
@eaudesolero5631 The term is being used correctly and is widely used within the Epic community. We receive the product from Epic and build the EHR for the hospital by plugging in values to populate within the software that end users see and document each day. Epic comprises Master Files (INIs) aka 'Databases,' hundreds of them that are owned by Epic Analysts within the modules. The structure was created by Epic, we as analysts customize the items within it for hospital staff. I am in Chronicles every day as an Epic Analyst. Clarity is still used for reporting within Epic but will eventually go away with Reporting Workbench Reports being developed that can be run ad hoc using SQL. It is much more complicated than above but should give you a better idea.
